I started one in a giant wine glass. Inspired by this channel. I made a rock scape and a twisted piece of wood that looks like a bansai tree that pokes out the top. I put air plants on the top of the wood to make it look like a tree. I used aqua soil in it and put water plants in there. I have two minows in there. when I went to start my second one in a large vase I took some plants from the first one. I was recently surpised to find baby fish hatched out of the plants. 😂 They're so cute and enjoyable. They've been going strong about 10 months now with no issues.

I have been extremely discouraged and disappointed in my fish aquarium hobby. Lots of dead fish and plants. Sometimes my water parameters were great. Then an ammonia spike. The water changes were killing my back. Bucket method. At any rate I have given up. 4 years of trying and failing. But, I may try the plants in the vase/container method. Perhaps, I can succeed with that. I am always getting wonderful inspiration from you.

Don't give up! This may definitely be the way to go! I enjoy my little bitty "tanks" just as much as a bigger aquarium.

Brother I'm new to this as well and absolutely do not want to waste money on tech, chemicals or expensive plants. I have 5 tanks now, ranging from a 5L jar to 20L tank, all super healthy, clear water, happy fish. I seldom change water or give any maintenance at all. What works for me is simply putting as many emerged plants as possible, plus a few shrimp and snails. Not only does it looks great, but the plants actually feed off all the shit you want to get rid off anyway, PLUS they transfer CO2 from the roots to the water. Give it a try, I use common houseplants such as photos and monsters, but there's a bunch.
@isaac997325 күн бұрын
Oh and I have never in my life tested the water for anything at all. I've always put the fish in right away, no casualties. Always remember nature does this without equipment

You know, many of the plants we have in our aquariums come from areas that will flood, then dry out. So they are used to going into an emergent mode with different leaves and stems capable of holding up in the gravity. Some will die back, except for the roots/bulbs they sprout anew as the rains fall. Love seeing your work.

I was so glad to see how you handled plants that wouldn't stay in the substrate. That is one problem I have that I haven't seen you address. I have a medium sized bowl that I've planted after watching your channel. It started when I dismantled my aquarium after the last snail died. I still had an annubias nana and I didn't want to toss it, so I've been trying out different planters and have added a few more plants like Java fern, etc. It's on my desk on a bamboo platform with an attached overhead light. I haven't added any snails or shrimp because I don't want to deal with any more death :(

@titanuranus21364 ай бұрын
A big 500ml syringe is ideal for doing waterchanegs on these and even nano tanks if you dont need to do big water changes. No mess with a syringe, water your house plants with it, or blast it 40 foot up your garden through the window lol. I also keep a 5L jug of water under the sink so the chlorine can off gas, saves money on dechlorinator.
