The T9+ is the successor for the much lauded T8 AIVI. The specs and features are impressive with a number of world-firsts, but how does it really clean?

Enjoy your videos. I think the T9 Plus has been out for a while, but it only recently became available in the United States, not sure why it took so long to become available here, so far I think it's really good, definitely a bit more powerful than the T8 Plus which I also have, I have a small robot collection and I think the best brands, in no particular order are Roborock, Ecovacs, and Dreametech. Even though the Roombas are still popular I think they are really falling behind when it comes to inivation. Their camera navigation is nowhere near as good as Lidar and the battery life is not as good as other brands. I have a Roomba J7 and I'm probably going to offer it to a friend of mine, it takes much longer to clean my place and the vacuum is not even that powerful compared to other brands.

Great to see a fellow kiwi doing reviews. Great job too. I have heard that the deebot vacuums have issues emptying the bin when it has a lot of pet hair, it gets stuck between the 2 vents pulling in opposite directions and won't empty. I have a German Shepherd so buying a vacuum and auto empty bin that can handle the hair is a must. Do you think that it would be an issue? Also, object detection is a must, just in case of poop accidents from the dog.
@RobomateTV
@RobomateTV 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! This is really the only auto-emptying robot with object detection in New Zealand at the moment. It can be an issue, but it seems to be worse on fur that clumps together more. The thing to remember is that only the iRobot's have dirt-bin full sensors as far as I'm aware (due to a patent), so the issue is often actually more due to it continuing to pack and compacting the debris after it is already full. To work around this if you find that you're having issues you can cut the house into 2 separate cleans so that it will return to base and empty itself before it gets too full. I haven't really had any issues, but I've only tested it with cats.

Having two labs we did find the pet hair got stuck, the way around this is the set the vacuum up to empty between rooms. It only blocks if there is too much hair compacted in the vacuum.

Great review. I'm looking to upgrade because of the mopping feature. All our floors are ceramic tiles, and we usually wash them by throwing a lot of water, scraping the water away with a rubber edge broom, and finally wipe dry. Will this really be just as good? I have a wife to convince...
@RobomateTV
@RobomateTV 2 жыл бұрын
Great question - the mop obviously won't be quite as comparable to human force - but if you set the robot off 2-3 times a week it should be just as good :) It's probably about keeping on top of things, rather than sending it out once a month :)

@RobomateTV

How big is the home Neville? We did a video on the i3 also which may be worth checking out. The T9 is way more sophisticated than the i3 in the features department. If you have a big home I'd say go T9, if you have a small home then consider whether you want those features or not (and mopping). We have a really low price on the T9 at the moment too which may tip the scales of your decision.

I'm debating between this (or the T8 since the T9 doesn't seem available yet here in the US) and the Roborock S6 MaxV. The Roborock is touted in most videos as having the very best mapping system of all the robots. The T8 has shown signs of forgetting room names when you move things around in that room and sometimes just forgetting the map, which has been a big complaint from several reviewers. However, in all fairness, most of the reviews are several months to a year old and could have been some software updates since then to address those problems. Roborock is said to have the best and fastest updates. But there looks like this has a some features I like such as the vibrating mopping tool. I wish the roborock had that feature, but I'm still leaning toward the Roborock because it has had better reviews than the Evovac line for flawless navigation and features like the ability to draw lines to keep the vac away from things, plus the "no- clean" zones you can draw a box around like this one. Do you have any experience with the Roborock?
@RobomateTV
@RobomateTV 2 жыл бұрын
Oops - we missed this comment earlier. We have experience with both, and we have released a Roborock S7 video also. The mapping on the T9 is still the most efficient of any I have tested, but there isn't a huge difference during actual use. Both have no go zones, which can be used as invisible walls in most cases also. You'll be happy with either option, so just go with whatever you decide and don't look back :)

@@RobomateTV Hi, thanks for your reply. I made the decision to get the Roborock S6 MaxV. I have spent several days with it (and put up a video today with a long description under it). I had a Shark IQ first and it was the dumbest IA robot I've ever seen. I sent it back and got the S6. It is perfect in every way. I was concerned about the mopping ability since the mop doesn't vibrate, but two passes over my kitchen tile which was stained badly cleaned it perfect and no streaks. I let it vacuum and map the house 3 times first, then I mopped each room individually so I could evaluate the experience and clean the mop pad (just rinse and rub under the faucet for 30 seconds and it's good to go again). The mopping was better than I could do with my dedicated mopping tools (Bissell Crosswave Pet Pro and Hoover Floormate, both of which leave streaks on my white tile floor and on my laminate floors). The mapping is rock-solid perfect and there are so many options to customize your cleaning experience in the app. This one is a keeper.
@RobomateTV
@RobomateTV 2 жыл бұрын
@@spydie Awesome, thanks heaps for replying with the update. It's always interesting to hear from people about their own experiences - it helps us with our videos too, because robots often seem to have a personality of their own which is hard to explain via video and can even be unique to batches. The S6 MaxV is a good option for sure... great to hear that the mop is living up to expectations too. If you do it routinely it will keep on top of things perfectly well, as you said. We just try to set peoples expectations so that they don't they don't expect to get a non-vibrating one and put it on a floor that hasn't been mopped for 12 months and it will clean it. All the best with your new robot!

Tough question, the Roborock S7 has a "sonic mopping" where it vibrates but the Ecovacs T9 mop actually oscillates (i.e. moves back and forth in a scrubbing fashion). I think the T9 actually scrubs better than the S7 but if you like the fact that the S7 mop can raise over carpet (so you don't have to actively take it on and off ) then some think this makes that mop feature better... @@shanew7361 So we have 6 cats and a dog plus 4 people living in our house, we have about 50/50 split of carpet (deep pile) and tiles. Its first time out the auto empty struggled with emptying the dirt bin (but that was a week between vacuuming) so we run it on the carpet at least twice a week and it has no issues. We get some hair caught around the ends of the roller, but everything comes apart and is easy to clean/maintain. The vacuum/mop on the tiles is good. Only issue I am having is the mapping, our house is double story and the first level is split, so 3 different areas ... the maps clears the edits, so names etc on the rooms... but this wouldn't stop me buying it again... We plan on getting another unit and are probably going to try a Roborock S7+ just so it can vacuum and mop without having to change out parts. @@RobomateTV No, I've just seen a video of a Roomba spreading pet hair around and not picking it up, but that's just one video. If it's good on most then that's good news :) Is this better than average? Btw I didn't get a notification of your reply a week ago which is weird.

@@RCmies Hmm, that's weird. Was it a modern Roomba? A late model one should generally do okay on pet hair too. This one definitely will do well though. You may find that you need to schedule it to auto-empty twice per clean if you don't do it every day and you have a lot of hair though as once it fills the bin it can begin to pack the hair in really hard. You just set it to clean rooms 1, 2, 3 etc in one clean, then rooms 3, 4, 5 etc in the second one - pretty straight-forward once you know how to use it. :) Hope this helps.

This one is awesome for pet hair. We have two labs and the only change we need to make to most people is that we need to set the self empty after each room to prevent the dust holder getting clogged. If it gets too full, the hair impacts in there and gets jammed and won’t self empty.

I upgraded to the T9+ from a 950. I'm finding that the old 950 did a much better job in regards to the path it takes and it really hugs the edges of the house. In regards to the path, the 950 methodically manoeuvres around the edge of a room and sweeps in an S shaped pattern in a logical way. The T9 does a similar job but seems to take a less than optimal (perhaps even nonsensical) path and may miss small areas, whereas the 950 covered every square inch. In regards to edges, the 950 navigates and positions itself extremely close to the edge of skirting board down the hallway for example, and travels all the way down in a dead straight line. Whereas the T9 sits slightly further out from the edge and moves in and out from the edge in a slight S shaped pattern, meaning it misses the extreme edges in some cases. What's going on here? How is the older 950 outperforming the newer and more expensive T9 in regards to navigation paths and hugging the edges of a room? It's great in every other way, just thought the newer tech would make it excel in those aforementioned important areas. What am I doing wrong? Help!
@RobomateTV
@RobomateTV 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may have got a faulty unit. What's the returns policy from where you purchased? Sometimes it's hard to prove what's going wrong but if it's not working and you understand how it's meant to work from your 950 (and should be improved), and it's not, then you likely have a faulty one. We do see it with all brands of robots - it ALMOST works, but for some reason it isn't as smart as it's siblings.

950 seems faster as it only has a ladar to guide it hence paths are simpler to prices. The T8 and T9 models have ladar but also cameras. I've noticed these cameras take additional AI processing time. The paths become more complex so it works slower and can even pause at times to understand what is Infront of it.

*EDIT* Shoot, I just read that the T9 cannot vacuum with the mop unit installed. With this unit installed, it always mops. Thank you for the great review and further info under some posts 👍🏻 Still doubting between Ecovacs T9+ and the Roborock S7+ The most important thing for me is that the robot must be able to first only vacuum the whole room, and after that mop the whole room. Without having me to change anything, because I want it to do everything when I am sleeping 😊 But I guess they do that both right? Or am I wrong? PS. I don’t have carpets, only hard floor
@RobomateTV

Hi, your edit is not quite correct. The T9 also vacuums while it mops, but it won’t go onto any soft flooring with the mop attached, even to transit over it. The Roborock S7 will do that. That’s the biggest advantage for the S7, but the T9 has object avoidance and an oscillating mop. It’s about even, so it depends on whether you prefer object avoidance or a mop that raises itself in my opinion
