I love your videos! I think (HOPE!) after a recent event, car manufacturers may bring back engines with displacement and cylinders instead of turbos and voltage (although putting a boost on an already powerful engine doesn’t hurt). I bet gas mileage and power can increase along with emissions decreasing. The government mandates have had me thinking we are in the 1980’s with cars today that are lacking quality and power. Makes me think they are using college students and Lean Six Sigma to design and build them cheaply. I hope Toyota survives, restructures and ditches the management that caused the engine issues they created.

You corner the market Mark on the best youtube channel addressing automotive reliability. Thank you for your educational videos as your voice is much needed as manufacturers take advantage of consumer ignorance with ever increasing technical complexity. PS. I should open my piggie bank and buy that 911 you reviewed. I have been to the well too much and no longer need the fix to pony up but I still think about it. To me Porsche is the king but comes with a price. As to the inevitable comparison with the C8 Z06, speaking of reliability, Porsches are better sorted. Even though I worked at Chevy Engineering where the C8 was developed, it has been plagued with typical GM problems and in particular dual clutch transmission problems you don't want to live with when the warranty expires.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support and I agree we need this type of info available because mainstream reviewers and marketers do a great job of showcasing these vehicles as new, but what happens after 3 years, 6 years, 10 years. Porsche 911, other than maybe 996 will last a long time, albeit at a cost. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

They have the best interiors, reliability and drive like dream for a compact. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming.

I bought a Mazda CX-30 back in June. A bit shorter wheelbase than the CX-50, and $4000 cheaper. I really like this car. AWD, 6 speed auto trans, 2.5 liter bullet proof motor (I passed on the turbo), and it introduced me into the radar controlled place keeping feature of the cruise control system of the car. The price point is well under $30,000 USD, so it has been quite a success for Mazda. They really are pushing the CX-50 though.

I've owned both Hondas and Toyotas. While both are excellent and hold their resale, I would choose Toyota every time now. Our latest Honda (07 Civic) had little annoyances like failing cruise, upholstery separations, multiple broken sun visors, burnt out dashboard lights, failing starter, etc. Toyota had none of these problems at comparable mileage. Happy to be driving a '20 Highlander and '22 Corolla.

Been eyeing a Mazda CX-50 for the past couple of years (hoping to buy within the next year or two). It probably offers the best value in the crossover or compact SUV segment. It's definitely the best looking and it's probably the most reliable in the price range. Starting with the 2025 models, the CX-50 will also come with a hybrid engine option. They'll be using the Rav4 hybrid engine which is tried and tested. IMO, they've probably been one of the best bang for buck vehicles over the past few years. There haven't been significant changes to the CX-50 since it's inception in 2022, so buying pre-owned might be a better option for people considering the non-hybrid version.

1. Honda Civic: even though it’s NA, I’m sure the Honda leadership have found a way to ensure oil/fuel dilution happens even without a turbo, to prevent engines from lasting too long. 2. Mercedes GLB: oil/fuel dilution and engineered obsolescence, paired with a squeaky dash ensures new car sales every 80k miles, which is better for the company and therefore better for climate change. 3. Toyota Tacoma and Lexus GX: failing torque converters, suspension components and grenading main bearings in the twin turbo v6 are signs of exemplary reliability. Their only shortcoming is that the A, B and C pillars do not collapse while in motion. Let’s hope that the engineers address this and add this long awaited feature in the future facelift. 4. Macan EV: Since Taycan is its grandfather, it has a lot to live up to when it comes to reliability. Taycan’s claim to fame in reliability is truly hard to beat since its debut onboard the Fremantle Highway-Taycan did put on a really bright show. Not sure if Macan EV would be able to live up to its predecessor’s glory. 6. The Mazda SUV is the worst of the bunch-the interior is free of signature squeaks and rattles, put together with unnecessary increase in build quality. Worst of all it has a new design of pistons and combustion chamber -this in itself is a terrible idea because it increases power and efficiency per unit of displacement-thus contributing to improved fuel economy with or without the turbo. This is all unnecessary innovation that leads to better ownership experience at the cost of lower production and sales figures. Not good.

Good lucking finding something you can stand looking at that doesn't have a belt/chain CVT transmission, turbo engine, 100% direct-inject engine, cylinder-deactivation or start-stop - because all those systems are regulation-forced garbage for any buyer that plans to keep a vehicle past the power-train warranty period. Also, the proximity fob lock/unlock/start systems in new vehicles today are annoying, stupid & completely unnecessary. A lot of idiotic tech gimmicks to impress the herd animals.

The Tacoma used to be reliable when it came with a V6 engine. The 2024 models with the 4-cylinder turbo engine have been plagued with issues. Many Toyota dealerships won't even buy them back to sell as used vehicles because of the issues. There are lots of reviews and videos on KZbin discussing the various problems. The best Tacomas to buy are the 2023 model or any year before it with the V6. Avoid anything from 2024 and on with the 4-cylinder turbo. It's difficult to say the 2025 models will be more reliable considering how disappointing the 2024 models were. The Tacomas should get better with each year, but they're no longer worth the price. The 2024 Tacoma MSRP is way too high considering the downgraded engine, and I doubt the MSRP will be any lower with the 2025 model. Tacoma 2023 (Regular Unleaded V-6) MSRP - $41,350 - $54,350 (in CAD) Tacoma 2024 (Intercooled Turbo Regular Unleaded I-4) MSRP - $46,950 - $82,950 (in CAD) How can any new car buyer justify paying for a 2024 or 2025 Tacoma when the 2023 and earlier models offer better value? It's better to buy pre-owned.

I’m confused. You’re reluctant to recommend the new Ram trucks because their new V6 turbo engines are unproven but you’re fine with the new (and also unproven) 4 cylinder turbo engine in the Tacoma ? Equally confusing to me is your criticism of the Tiguan for its small 3rd row seating which you called “trash” because only little children can sit in them, but you seem to be fine with the Tacoma’s back seat that makes the Tiguan’s seats look luxurious ? Maybe I’m just one of the “stupid” people you reference in your title.

Each vehicle is in a class that serves a specific purpose and if it misses the mark, it drops in rank. Not every vehicle is suitable for everyone and the Ram comment and the turbo inline 6 is a huge risk based on extrapolating as to previous experiences. The 2.4 in the Toyota, has now been around in other forms for a good few years now and seems somewhat dependable, plus……it’s a Toyota.

Thoughts on the GMC terrain? Any good as a small suv?

Still have some durability options and if you want for a longer time, I would skip. Short term is ok other than depreciation. Hurts them a bit more than some competition

Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD. 6 cylinder twin-turbo with all the bells and whistles. It’s a luxury rocket. Looks like it’s moving parked in the driveway.

Mercedes have troublesome electronics and too much cheap interior hard plastic surfaces.

Yes there is some of that but honestly most brands are like that these days
