When I was a kid I got to see The Fantastics at the Sullivan St. playhouse in NYC. What a lovely theme, a great song that my mother loved. The message of the play and the song was one of love and a feeling of coming home. As a child I was moved by the play’s ending when the theme returned, to come full circle. I am not ashamed to say this song moves me still today.

I was just a kid when Ed Ames left his brothers to go solo as a singer/actor. He was great at both. As a singer, he had a couple hits that I remember: “My Cup Runneth Over” and “Who Will Answer.” And yes, I enjoyed the Daniel Boone tv series. The show’s directors were quite creative in how they wove Ames’ Mingo character into the story lines. As a vocalist and voice teacher, I had just introduced the music of Ed Ames to one of my students weeks ago. Now, it’s sad to know he’s no longer physically with us. Rest In Power Ed Ames 🎶

Quick reactions: Harry B just exuded so much class. Stevie is awesome -- and could laugh at himself (and the great Ray Charles) Bruce looked thrilled to be a part of all of this, as did almost all of them With all those great singers and stars, Al Jarreau still stood out...at least here. Dylan is a strange cat, but even he smiled a little.

Another amazing find. Johnny said everything before he started having all his Tonight Shows preserved in 1972 were lost or erased or destroyed (which he was unaware of til it was too late). Yet clips and segments even entire shows from the 60s keep appearing on KZbin from time to time. No doubt there's much much more out and about hidden in vaults of all kinds in particular the NBC network. If only Johnny had known he would have seized everything he could find and stored them with the rest of his own tapes.

Where do all of these short Carson kinescopes come from? There was a company on the east and west coasts that would film your appearance on TV for a fee, often just you and your appearance. Are these them?

Kinescopes from the videotape era tended to be used for: 1) distribution to Armed Forces Radio & TV, 2) distribution to Canada, 3) for a legal record of the broadcast day or to prove ads ran as scheduled.
