ESPN's Ed Werder joins The Dan Patrick Show and discusses his postgame exchange with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders following Colorado's upset win over TCU

Ed Werner knows that calling him a celebrity coach is basically taking shots at his qualifications for being a head coach. You’re saying he got the job because of his fame and not because of his actual coaching abilities. Of course Deion took offense to that! Behind all the theatrics, Deion is a old school football coach that knows the game inside and out and knows how to motivate and manage a team.

Everyone in Dallas knows Ed Werder is a sleazeball. He was the one who instigated the Terrel Owens, Jason Witten , Tony Romo drama, kept needling the players in interviews every week, refuse to reveal his sources, then played dunb like he had nothing to do with it. Here's an exchange between Werder and Newman during that Cowboys fallout between its three biggest stars. Werder: Do you regret anything you said (Friday) morning on ESPN? Newman: (Pause) Any Giants questions? Werder: Do you think the drama of everything that has happened the last couple of days will affect you guys mentally..."(Newman stands up to end the interview, throws on his backpack and then looks directly at Werder) Newman: Yup (in exasperation), I wonder how many time I was asked that question. Werder: (With a smirk) What question?

Nick Saban had national championship level success at LSU before becoming the GOAT at Alabama. Colorado was selling out everything before Deion coached an FBS game. If you insert any other coach from Jackson State's division into the Colorado job (including ones with championship resumes), they still don't sell out in the off season. Of course he was a celebrity coach, and he wisely used that celebrity status to his advantage on the recruiting trail and in the media. Now he's gaining more respect for his coaching abilities by winning at this level.

@ktilford9 ай бұрын
Ed Werder, like many other media personnel since Deion was hired at Colorado, "took the bait, got hooked and doesn't want to admit the obvious." Let's admit that obvious, this hire rubbed a lot of people wrong, including people of color for leaving an HBCU for a PWI and it scares the living crap out of a lot others for reasons I don't have time to get into. This "celebrity coach" statement - would never have been used to identify Saban, Sweeny or Smart - is yet another microaggression that is all too familiar to people of color to minimize efforts, outcomes, and effect. Werder attempts to be ignorant of such and Patrick is providing him the "playground pity platform" to cry foul. As a football fan, I personally have enjoyed Werder's reporting over all those years he covered the Cowboys and other sports stories. He very well knows why Deion called him out and it's juvenile he now wants to state it would be 'journalistic bias' to answer Deion's question. Since he admittingly "lives so close to Boulder" you have to wonder why Werder didn't ride over to Boulder and see what was going on before making such a sly comment. What was all the hype about? Maybe he would have seen for himself. So, this is nothing more than Werder stealing a cookie out of the damn cookie jar and saying he didn't do it with cookie crumbles all in his grill! Sometimes humility is a better side to display than ignorance.

Add that to the dismissive nature in which CU was placed as a 21 point underdog to a team that got trounced by Georgia in the Natty and lost to Kansas St in the Big 12 championship game, then of course Coach Prime is going to call out every member of the media that didn't believe he was a good coach or CU was a good team.
