Ahh cool dude, you've come back to Ed Wynne! The other dude is usually known as Gracerooms, I was already aware of a very nice (and more than slightly Ozric influenced) album by him called Surfin' the Scratchness. Me like. 😁

Pretty much anything Ed touches turns to psychedelic gold. 🙃

wow i was not expecting an ed wynne solo career reaction, good to see more ozrics stuff on here! I never knew the other guy was Gracerooms though until another commenter said so. That guy made some sick ozric-esque electronic stuff, i remember stumbling across him while looking for artists similar to ozrics.

:D !! Glad you enjoyed it! As usual, your summary would be the envy of most of the "official" music critics out there. Definitely in this song there's "the spacious version of space" in many places. Somehow the sound "goes cavernous" at times. (Lots of threads running simultaneously, and separation into left and right (and these days probably top and bottom, too, if they're recording for that new recording system the Steven Wilson remixes are all about.) Spacious Space Rock. (Myself, I have to avoid even good old dope. A few loose cogs rattling round in the head, so I hallucinate on dope, and find I "can't get off the train", get agitated, so spend most of my time whenever I'm stupid enough to try it again, a bit miserable, just waiting for it all to end. I suppose the sensible thing would be to just go along for the whole ride, but ... no. I have friends and family for whom marijuana is one of the things that makes life living. I have a friend who likes LSD because it "makes him lively" - nothing more. That's nice, but they can all keep it. Until I try it again. Actually had a nice marijuana plant in the garden of the place I'm now in when I first moved in. Naughty boy upstairs used to use that garden as his farm. Had to remove it, not being well made for prison life. And just a few months later our High Court goes and bends the Constitution until it says people have a right to "Grow Your Own". Could've left the plant, and maybe "rented out the field". I don't mind the stuff in principle, just in practice.) Actually the hallucinations are pretty cool (for a while - they just go on too long). I have a tendency to "turn into a big dinosaur" walking with my head brushing treetops, looking for other dinosaurs to eat. No ill feeling toward them, just a simple dino-minded klomp along through the forest, scanning for something like a snack. A kind of mild-mannered Tyrannosaur Experience. If it ended faster, I'd be encouraging everyone else to not miss out on the joy of narcotics. It's quite fun having a huge head and lots of big sharp teeth for, say, fifteen minutes; but then you start to wish you could be a human being again. My pothead cousin (the others are good Methodists, Baptists, or have loose cogs in their heads and have to swear off stuff like that) has a tendency to see music in terms of the drug it's based on. He'll hear a new band, and if they have promise will start getting all enthused. "Imagine how great they're going to be when they hit their heroin phase." There might be something in it, but it's probably certain musical minds are drawn to certain drugs, rather than certain drugs somehow "unlocking" music that wouldn't be there without the drug. Also you have things like John Coltrane's heroin phase being a time of uncompromising creativity, being spoiled by the fact that it killed him. Or quite likely something connected to the illegality of the substance killed him. (If we made it all legal - But Controlled - a State Monopoly is what I favour - sometimes you need a bit of Communism - .. if we made it properly legal, we'd be able to actually deal with the problem to the extent that that's humanly possible - apart from using dictatorial measures - and in many cases drug use would be relatively harmless - at least compared to all the knock-on consequences of the illegality of today.) And I'd better stop blathering, hey?

Thanks for doing this reaction! Floativerse is great stuff, end to end; Gre’s influence on Ed’s signature Ozrics sound is palpable and positive, and I really hope they continue to collaborate. Unlike most music that’s billed as “psychedelic”, which is horrid to actually listen to in altered states (early Pink Floyd, I’m looking at you…), this is precisely what you want to hear: intense jamming with varied and engaging rhythms, but somehow relaxing at the same time, with giant pillowy layers of soundscape to cradle your melty noggin, and plenty of hard left turns compositionally to keep you surprised and entertained. I love it!

No other band creates its own genre like the Ozric Tentacles under the vision of Ed Wynne. This music is of, by, and for the psychedelic experience. The density you speak of is like the incredible amounts of visual information that appears. Every surface finely textured, with its own rivers of motion and purpose. So in one way, it is depicting the experience as well as being something to be listened to during an experience. I have seen them live many times, had a great interview with Ed where he made a promo for my radio show. I partied with them backstage in NYC one time till 5 a.m. after a show and some of the juice was very electric indeed! And Ed is better than ever!

Interesting, and nicely played. Even an element of freshness to the sound, but ultimately not a lot I hadn't heard before. I'd listen to more though.

Good production values have been a hallmark of Ozrics albums going back to the beginning (post cassette-era, that is.) And IMO this sounds like most of Ed's work with Ozrics, which makes sense since he had a hand in nearly every song they recorded. Groovy stuff, man. Check out the album Erpland next.

Pretty cool. Rather mixed, though, and just as I getting totally into the Simon Posford-esque middle bit, it switched to a more guitarsy rock section, which felt like stumbling on a stupid bit of carpet that's sticking up as I'm walking. Would have preferred if they'd stayed with a style/genre and played it out to its full extent before moving on, but it was still okay if in the mood for some mixed-bag musicality.

In fact there is no difference between Ed Wynne in solo and Ozric Tentacles because he is the main composer of most of the songs of the band and in one as in the other, the sound and the style are identical, so what you just listened to is mostly Ozric Tentacles !

Reminds me of Green era Steve Hillage. I saw Ed supporting Gong a couple of years ago. He was brilliant, far better than Gong to be honest,. I'd recommend anything off the album Shimmer Into Nature.
