The message when john said: "they broke my car" Turns out that at this point John had a confession to make but his addled brain was protecting him from the embarrassing admission that it was in fact him that had broken the Range Rover once upon a time, back when 1986 Range Rovers were valuable, chiefly as the preferred to or the discerning raider; John had modified the switches on the dashboard to disconnect the starter circuit, hence safely rendering the vehicle un-startable should anyone try to steal it. You can scroll frame by frame with the < and > keys when paused. Makes it a lot easier to find it. J and L are 10 sec back and forward, the arrow keys left and right are 5 seconds. K is pause, F is full screen, C is closed captions, M is mute. 0 restarts the video, 1 through 9 will skip it to a section that is 1/10 of the video length (so 4 takes you to 4/10 of the video). I love this long list lol In fact i had the same experience with the german version of the MOT the HU (Hauptuntersuchung / Main examination). I once had an Omega, bought it for 200€ drove it 2 years and wanted a new HU.. ( In germany we got 3 big companies doing the HU. The TÜV, the DEKRA and GTÜ) first i drove to the TÜV and i got list with 30+ problems. So i wanted to test how similar the organisations are and drove to the DEKRA. Again i got a list 30+ problems. NOT ONE was noted by the TÜV, so i got 60 completly different problems .... so i drove to the GTÜ, a few days later i was handed the report .... it had TWO words! "dispose car" So i said to the owner of the workshop "Keep the car and i take the VW Yetta over there for free" He agreed and i got another used car

Throw in the corrosion near the seat belt mounting points and a moderate collision where the brakes failed could have seen you ejected via the windcsreen in the seat! I know Edd built a cheap ejector seat for TG but that would have been even more cheaper and far more lethal.

So the question is - do you buy a new galvanised chassis frame and expend a fraction of the heart ache by unbolting everything and re-bolting it across from the donor to recipient or do you buy 500 feet of angle iron and a bunch of plate, half a dozen tanks of Argoshield and 30 rolls of Tig wire to try and weld to a crumbling frame with no good metal to attach to... I'd think about the latter, but common sense (the wife) would tell me to do the former and after all the shouting was over, it would be the least stressful choice. Bar the corrosion by the way, let me tell you that the list of failures (I'm surprised the MoT station didn't charge you for all the paper, Edd) are about the normal for any used RR you buy and take into the shop for repairs... Sick of this Range Rover now, scrap it and move on. John has a cheek asking you to fix it. Imagine how much he would pay a garage to do the work.

Having restored my own Vw beetle which was my first car, I relate fully to the sentimental attachment us men make to our cars. More than corrosion ridden death traps, they contain memories and sentimentality that cannot be replaced. I hope this one makes it back on the road, and you make the grumpy MOT tester eat his words. Great stuff as always, Ed.

I remember back in the day when I was only a nipper wrapping a dish towel around the driver wiper and securing it with insulation tape just so dad could get to work.. that temp solution lasted for at least a month🤣

Edd is such a great motivation for me on my own KZbin journey, I am glad I was motivated by this man.

Indeed. I think it's Edd's relaxed yet informative manner.

Edd, Do,nt worry, I have a 1983 auto RR that has been on my drive for 20 years, you can use that.

You should have had a separate scene for the scrolling mot failures up the bonnet to the Star Wars theme. 👍

All Rubber on a 30+ year old car will need changing. Front and rear main seals also. Plug the leaks and your back on the trail. 👍

If John is so attached to Daisies dents than maybe the easiest is to buy another Range Rover (in a better state) and swap the body work.

well,,,, It is all up to John,,, Does he want to spend 2 times more than the vehicle is worth to repair it or look for a replacement,, ?? :-)

Re asking what to do with the Range Rover - please fix it to get it back onto the road (if affordable) and maybe get it to run on vegetable oil or a new electric conversion so oit has better environmental cred!

Find an identical Range Rover in great condition and change the number plates. Probly a cheaper option!

You mean like swapping out a child’s dead pet and hope they don’t notice! You never know, we might get away with it…
@russellgaskin79953 жыл бұрын
@@eddchina Hahaha. I wouldn't do the dead pet thing Edd. That's a bit harsh but a Rangie I would!!

I think better find a newer model and just switch the body and mite have some spear items to fix from one to other.. So outside will remain the same and underneath a newer, better and safer to work on 👍

Had a good giggle at this episode what a list thanks for the picking my comment for what to do with the rover bit of a shock when you put it on the big screen 😎😀
