It's a pleasant Saturday morning in the Memphis Wrestling world, finally, after weeks of having the Gilbert family run wild in the CWA. As he had promised, Jerry Lawler hit Eddie Gilbert with a fireball last Monday night and, judging from the atmosphere in the studio, things seem to be back to normal. Oh, Doug Gilbert has a match coming up, but he's still young yet and nobody expects much trouble from him.
But unfortunately Doug makes the Gilbert family presense known during an interview with Eddie Marlin when he rudely interupts his announcement. Both sides make their points concerning the feud and when diplomacy fails, Tommy Gilbert runs out to stack the deck on the Gilbert side. A quick boot to the mid-section doubles Eddie over and sets him up for a vicious right cross that drops the aging promoter. While Doug is holding Eddie, Tommy removes his boot and takes a running swing at Eddie--the momentum sending the big man over the announcer's table and opening up his forehead.
Eddie is then tossed into the ring where the bloody beat down continues until Jeff Jarrett runs in for the save. Jeff clears the ring but Gary Young runs in for the Gilbert side and now Jeff needs to be rescued by Billy Travis. During an interview following the donnybrook, Jeff Jarret and Billy Travis are interupted by a bleeding and bloody Eddie Marlin. Eddie is hot, and he's bent on returning the same insult and injury he has suffered today by challenging Tommy Gilbert to a Cowboy Boot Match so using the boots will be legal.
Here's the match: "Eddie Marlin vs Tommy Gilbert (Cowboy Boot Match, 4-4-88)"
• Eddie Marlin vs Tommy ...

God rest Mr. Eddie Marlin's soul! Great man. Good worker, promoter and talent getter. I had long forgotten that he was Jeff Jarrett's grandpa! No wonder he ran in so much to Eddie's defense. Trying to help his Grandfather like any grandson would, lol! 88 years on God's good earth is a long long time. A life well-lived. When I was a kid he always reminded me of a McDonald's hamburger joint store manager or a deacon in a church on Sunday with his short-sleeved shirts and ties and slacks and dress shoes he would wear on television. I know it was, now, to look a part. The kindly, old statesman of CWA/USWA, aka Memphis Wrestling, but it was still so funny looking to me as a kid sitting at home on Saturday mornings in Clarksville, TN. in the 1980s. Great video! Thanks for sharing. Old school wrestling never gets old it just ages well like a fine wine.

Stuff like this is why wrestling was great in the 80's. Eddie Marlin was a tough old dude. Jeff Jarrets grandfather I believe.

2:37 I would assume this is when Eddie Marlin blades. Based on the amount of time and blood, I think he used his pocket knife. Gotta love the senior southern rasslers who let the new heels brutalize them. Really good stuff. Everyone looks strong...except BJ Travis, his punches are Diva.

Seems like Eddie Marlin protected Jerry "The King" Lawler more times than you can shake a stick at! I hate seeing stuff like this happen, but sometimes, just like this one, Eddie Marlin had it coming to him! He never got it through his thick skull that Jerry "The King" Lawler was only out for himself. Lawler was a flip-flop kind of wrestler, just like so many other wrestlers that I've seen. He would be good for awhile, then, whether suddenly, or even gradually, he'd flip over to being a heel whenever he felt like it!

I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. They had just put a new cover on the wrestling mat and then Eddie Marlin gets his blood spilled all over it. For the rest of the year, the blood stains were still there(If I remember correctly)

😂😂 LOL..... 2:36 The Gilbert's threw Eddie Marlin behind the announce table so he could blade without the studio, and TV audience seeing him do it!!👍

A ton. I don't think there's another promoter who got beat up as much as he did. He also bladed practically every time. I think Eddie enjoyed getting beat up and humiliated LOL.

The irony was that in reality, Eddie Marlin was a tough as they come, and they all knew it. (My dad was a job guy in Memphis with Welch/Gulas and then Jarrett for years) Eddie handled the money collected at the spot shows personally, and everybody knew it was safer with him than in an armored car because Eddie was a tough, old-fashioned street fighter.
