He pretty much encapsulates what I love about the British people. Unassuming, pigheaded in a good way, and comfortingly human.

Eddie your great!. He's a real hero I think and a great role model. He had such spirit and determination when he did he's ski jump in 1988 during the Winter Olympics in Calgary. I vividly and fondly remember watching Eddie do he's ski jump live on BBC 1 here in UK I never, ever forget. It really was the most amazing and thrilling and thing I ever saw back then. He's a great guy and a great dad. I went to the cinema/theatre tonight to see the film 'Eddie The Eagle' and thought it was a brilliant film I thoroughly enjoy. It made me cry here. I will be buying it when it comes out on DVD/Bluray for sure. The film also gets a big thumbs up from Eddie himself as he talks about the film during an interview on the 'This Morning' daily magazine program which is shown here every weekday morning on ITV here in the UK. You can watch the video here on KZbin if you search for it. It's worth watching.

The thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well. - The Olympic Creed

I remember watching those games! Canadians LOVED Eddie the Eagle! We didn't win ONE gold medal at those games, only HOST COUNTRY not to do so, pretty depressing, but he was a "shining light"!!! We were all behind you , Eddie!!

Jealous haters wish they could accomplish 1% of the things he did. Nobody ever embodied the spirit of the olympics more than he did. Don't get me wrong, it should be about the best atheletes in the World, but the occasional have-a-go-hero story is just as much a part of the games' history.

You know when a movie is so good, you have to youtube the background of it, especially if its based on a real time hero haha. That's what im doing now. To me he's a true legend because he will inspire so many people for ever. Def will show this movie to my kids later on.

I was lucky enough to be in the stands to watch Eddie jump in Calgary that day and just saw the movie yesterday. Great movie, but I wished they filmed the jumping in Calgary. Now people who watch the movie will think Calgary is in the mountains? It's not.
