Brian after the squat "the rules are the rules and I knew that." That shows his integrity in the sport. What Thor and his team did when viking press was over was IMO despicable. AFTER Thor did his pressing in the event, he was fine with what he did. It was only after Eddie beat him in the event by 1 rep that his team and himself complained and were campaigning to get the disallowed reps back. Even if Thor got those what, 2 reps I think it was, or maybe 1, Eddie likely still was going to beat him in the event because Eddie himself in that event had more in him he just didn't need to do any more reps because he wins the event with what he did.

The double dipping is subtle but.... Like an Olympic lift, they throw the weight up and catch it with locked out arms, then straighten the legs because they cant shoulder press the weight. Thors legs are clearly not locked out while he has finished or almost finished the press, eddies legs are locked and the lift is 100% fully completed with his shoulders.

I remember watching this event when it happened. I was on the edge of my chair cheering in my living room. Every event was super intense. Seeing the stuff from the refs point of view just hurts my heart. I couldn't believe Thor would act like that. I really respect the men who compete in these. They're the best at what they do. The top of the top. To have such a strong competitor that's so well respected among everyone throw a tantrum like that and try and take away a win from someone who really gave his all and earned it... It's just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Eddie, my heart aches for you brother. Really. This whole debacle was just a sad situation that could have been avoided with a few less "yes men" and a little better coaching. Good luck in the fight. I won't be able to see it live as I just don't have the money. I do good if I get a meal every two days, but I'm sure i'll see it posted somewhere after it's over. Looking forward to it :D

2017 was absolutely Eddie's year, no matter how you look at it, he is in the right. he deserved to win, he performed the best way he's ever done, he dominated multiple challenges, and the viking press was just a cherry on top. It's sad that this whole situation happened and arguments around it too, I hope they will come back to normal after the fight, or at least find strength not to be enemies anymore. Eddie clearly feels betrayed by his old friend Thor, that's the main fuel for him in this fight, once it's over, there are no more reasons for bad blood. I hope Thor also finds strength to admit his mistake. they both are incredible athletes, surely the strongest specimens in the world.

I'd love to see Thor's view on this footage, just to know if there is anything he feels he disagrees with since it just looks totally fair. Seeing this honestly just supports my existing view that I don't really understand why Thor has any issue with Eddie. If Thor was pissed at Colin I'd understand, but unless there's some behind the scenes footage of Eddie peeing in Thor's tacky before the stones, it just seems odd. However you look at it, Thor didn't win the viking press, his only claim might be that the extra rep for Eddie might have tired him enough to drop behind Loz on the plane pull. That would be the only thing that plausibly could have changed who won the title as a result- which would be relevant if it was a fair rep, which it wasn't. Whatever happens around all this and the boxing match now, this is a great documentary of the event. Until now, 2017 has got to be the best lineup there's been. If everyone is fit then 2022 might be up there though, although shame about JF.

Eddie Hall beat the odds in this sport where only a few like Martins Licis (6'3") and Oleksii Novikov (6'1") are under 6'5". It was a massive accomplishment and congrats on your well deserved win. This is constantly a problem over the years in WSM events. The judges constantly giving reps that should not count and warning instead. They need to really be harsher in the judgement of reps and no rep a lot more. The event and expectations are explained in detail and they know they are cheating when doing this and choose to do it anyway because it can gain them 2-3 extra reps which is massive. WSM needs to do better. They went over this in detail fully prior to the event and Halfthor knew the rules and knew he was double dipping and not waiting for the down signal. The head ref even told the man he got 3 bad reps counted and he still wouldn't let it go. He should have only gotten 11. Justifying it because they only sort of cheating needs to stop. There was no confusion with Halfthor and we can finally agree that he lost by any measure that is not biased fanboy takes. WSM you need to do better to downplay sore losers like this in the future.

As Colin mentioned, Thor had a bit weird technique. I'm pretty sure Thor wasn't doing it on purpose, he knew the risks. I think it's idiotic for a strongman event to have rules like that. Just move the weight any way you see fit. The only rules should be about deadlift/squat suits, knee wraps and aid in general (although I'd prefer raw in all circumstances). Thor showed off his technique to the judges, they gave feedback etc. So I'm perfectly happy with Thor getting 14 reps. I'd allow the 15th too. But with that said, there's no doubt Eddie would've done 16. Shaw knew about the time limit (which is silly to have imo) and screwed himself.
