Just a reminder that if you see a child/minor getting abused by a teacher, please DO report it so that the abuse can be stopped. Don't wait for the CHILD to come forward with their story because they are a CHILD (this includes teenagers). They might not understand why what is happening is harmful to them or they might be pressured into silence by their teacher. (and the teacher stays free to potentially abuse others) You also do not have to report it to the school. (If you are afraid people will gossip or the school will cover it up ect). Report it to the police directly. It is a crime to abuse a child. It's an affair for the police. In cases like this, the identity of the child is supposed to stay protected. There should be laws in place for that. It's not your place to tell someone else's story of their abuse but if someone is in need of help, get them help. I felt like that got a little muddled in the video so I felt the need to mention it in the comments.

Not only this, research the protocol in your area. There are a lot of laws about things like this, and following the steps can help to get the victim a lot of help. For example, where I live, any abuse that an adult hears about has to be reported to the police and a social worker gets called in to assist the victim and provide mental health assistance. If you see something, say something

Honestly I feel like the only reason Jane Lynch hasn't really received too much shit about her role and why her character is actually generally tolerated a but more than others is because, like you said, Jane Lynch recognized right way that her character was NOT A GOOD PERSON. The character may be a source of comedy, and hell, maybe there might come a time where you can sort of sympathize with parts of her, but she never plays her like her actions are justified. Plays her like her CHARACTER thinks her actions are justified? Oh, absolutely! But she absolutely plays her as someone that, even when introduced with a "reason" for her actions, does not have an *excuse* for her actions. And that's why her performance not only outshined everyone else, but her character and her personal role in the show hasn't received the kind of backlash the others have. You can see the awareness in the way she brings that character to life, and people recognize that.

Not to mention so many things are so out of pocket and wild that when you’re watching it correctly (aka not taking it seriously) it’s an incredibly enjoyable experience. The shame is that the show could've been some great character material. They could've had Me Schuster realize that the Glee Club is about the kids, not his selfish desire to relive his youth. Have Sue Selvester learn that being such a terrible person has left her alone and miserable and have her try to be a better person. Even have the bullies learn to empathize with their victims and try to make up for how they wronged them. Having a cast of deeply flawed characters is not an inherently bad thing, and can make for some excellent storytelling.

@@helloill672 was about to mention Community! Totally agree, that show gets the “flawed but likeable characters” thing right from the pilot episode. I haven’t watched Glee, but from what I can gather it struggles with making its characters likable for a long time, and watching unlikable mean characters for multiple seasons before they learn just doesn’t sound like a great time. That is my personal bias showing though, if someone tells me to watch a show and says “the main character(s) are awful and intolerable for the first few seasons, but they get better later!”, I just won’t want to watch it. I’d rather characters have something redeemable about them from the beginning, otherwise I feel like I’m gonna waste my time. In my opinion, a TV show should have flawed but likable characters who you get invested in, because that’s what TV shows do best. I liked Jane Lynch's character and that's it. She is iconic in a mean sort of way and fits the role like a glove. But for a show that self-advertised its diversity, Glee kind of reinforced many stereotypes and misconceptions: mental health, race, biphobia, sexual abuse, etc. Kinda hypocritical.

Yes, she did and says terrible things, but she also calls out Will constantly on horrible shit he does. Including the episode that Coach Beast comes out as trans. They were clearly trying to woke without really understanding the struggles trans people go through, and at times actually contributed to the terrible stereotypes, as you mentioned)

Exactly! As someone who hated Glee from the getgo, this video is very satisfying. The holier than thou sanctimony combined with the selfishness masquerading as empowerment drives me nuts. Everyone is a terrible person who does what they do for selfish reasons and yet it's always portrayed like this selfishness is a great thing.

Yeah, the first season - or at least the OG first 13 eps written and filmed before any audience reaction - was self-aware, satire, funny. And Will was the main character. Then eventually it became a walking PSA and Will was shunted to the side to make way for all the PSA stereotypes.

Just to correct one thing. If you are going to have a glee club/high school choir, you actually do need a budget. You have to pay for sheet music, sometimes you have to pay for someone to play the piano (although sometimes you can get a band teacher/student to do that for free). It's also nice to have choir robes or something like that so that every kid doesn't have to spend the money to come up with some kind of uniform and acceptable performance outfit. You also often have to pay for transportation to performance venues/conferences/etc. So yeah, you don't need a huge budget, but you do probably need more than $60. Carry on.

Yeah for sure, my choir teacher was the one who played the piano or he just played the track in the background, but even with that expense out of the way you still have things to pay for. Sheet music like you said is it’s own expense, not to mention microphones, speakers, and equipment. But each year, each student has to pay $100, of course there was ways to reduce it down to $25 I believe for certain students, but I spent $100 each year for choir. $75 for the dress, $5 for the folder, and $20 for the yearly shirt. Not to mention the week camp was $430. And you had to pay per student for our 2 big completions each year
@luminousmoon86
@luminousmoon86 2 жыл бұрын
@@kayleigharnold Interesting. This was many years ago, but in my high school, choir was an actual class (albeit an elective) that you got credit for, so the school district paid for almost everything, except our choir robes, which we had some fundraisers to pay for (selling candy bars and such), and if a student did extra things like trying out for the all-state conference, they had to pay for their own entrance fee and all that. I'm sure it varies a lot by the school district and whether the choir or glee club is an actual class or purely an extracurricular activity.

As a band and theatre kid, sheet music and music rights are expensive enough alone, even if you aren't also paying to print it. Anything related to performance has insane amounts of hidden but necessary costs.
@luminousmoon86
@luminousmoon86 2 жыл бұрын
@@bogosbinted5734 Yeah, I probably should have explained that part better, but when you buy sheet music, you aren't just paying for some paper with notes and lyrics printed on it; the price effectively includes a license to perform that work. Hence why sheet music is so expensive. And in order to license an entire choir, every single performer must have their own licensed and purchased copy, they can't share, and you can't buy one copy and make a bunch of copies of it on a copying machine or whatever. Even if it's a digital license where you print it yourself, you still have to buy a license for every person in the choir.

As a “glee” club member, myself, singing, and playing instruments I got made fun of I got beat up. But I did not stop, I did what I wanted to do what I enjoyed to do, which was enjoy music be with other kids like myself, and bring joy to people when we used to perform. I then started working out and eighth grade. If bullies or jocks picked on me because I was also a closets gay kid, I began to fight back. With glee, I know how to voice and the music was great and the scenes were fun with the dancing. Today I am a successful realtor living in New York City, and nobody is laughing at me now. This show was a huge part of my identity in high-school.I used to call myself a gleek,proudly. Having gay and bisexual characters really helped me feel more comfortable with my own bisexuality. The show did however normalise a lack of boundaries between teachers and students. Will treats the students like his friends/peers which made it seem like it was okay to form relationships with authority figures. As someone who was groomed by a teacher I can say that shows like Glee and Gossip Girl definitely did active harm. The early 2010s really let a lot of pedoshit slide.
