For the cut across section, tho its effective it does put you at risk of picking up fouls, that could be a good and bad thing, you can win a set piece or possibly hurt yourself especially against careless aggressive pressers. I lowkey believe constantly doing this had a part to play in hazard's juries.
@chasingmypotential10 ай бұрын
You’re right he did get a lot of fouls. But these fouls are more like being stripped up, not ankle breakers

Agree. I used to do this alot and stopped because I kept getting injured. People get butt hurt with this move. Cracked a rib one time by a butt hurt defender - got in front of him and cut across and he got mad and tripped me and I fell straight down on my rib
@weakacids Жыл бұрын
really helpful analysis, i will try to dribble using the things you have pointed out and hopefully improve. Also i think that this video proves that to be a good dribbler or attacker in general, you don't have to do 20 stepovers or fancy skills. Simple touches in different directions can be enough. Lots of kids nowadays are too focused on getting cool skills off that they forget about the actual game
@chasingmypotential Жыл бұрын
So true, the simple things work the best, only when used to perfection. Look at Messi for example, I don’t even think ive even seen him use one step over 😅

The obstruction thing is the single greatest tip u gave abt ball protection and possibly in all of yt None of those vague dribbling vids whrre they say obv things like taking small touches rly address why a dribbler is so good These specific actions are way more valuable than some general tip Id recommed doing lthe leg obstruction thingy forst before others since its the easiest to do anf almost a requirement for the other techniques

Setting yourself up so you come at the defender at an angle makes it a lot easier to manipulate their balance and use their reaction against them. I noticed the success rate of stepovers and body feints increased a lot when I preempted those moves by curving my dribling in the opposite direction of the space I wanted to move into. So, dribling, I'd go from attacking his back leg(pivot foot) to attacking his front leg by curving the touches, and then once he feels uncomfortable and commits to a tackle or shift in balance I'd cut back across/feint/stepovers depending on situation. I like that the stepovers also shields the ball as you do this, so if I'm not sure the defender will bite and the defender is faster than me, that would be my preferred option. But this pattern of changing which foot you 'target' works just as well the other way, say curving your drible from front foot to back foot. It just depends on where you are, what space you want to move into, what space you think the defender will react the most to defend.

I noticed Hazard puts himself in between the defender and the ball so he either beats them or gets fouled… very great analysis, THANK YOU

Exactly, and most of the time the defender will pull out of the challenge, but I bet if we look at his stats he has won a ridiculous amount of fouls

Make a video analysis about Hazard and Messi turning around with the ball at their feet while having opponents behind their back. It’s a scenario where most players just panic and mess everything up. But Messi and Hazard do that differently. I noticed Frankie De Jong and Arthur Melo started to copy Messi's technique.

Also one key point that support Hazard playstyle is his body stature, he's kinda short and high masses he had advantage of low centre point of gravity, its hard for defender to take him down, while also he's not afraid taking risk to battle the opponent, that's also why most defender try stopping him by directly tackling his leg. This is why he failed at madrid (excluding several other factor) after he got injured, his playstyle changed dramatically he's more afraid and played reservedly, not making any of those explosive again
