"Prayer and Meditating the word of God" makes one righteous as that comprises REPENTANCE, develops and intimate relationship with God - along with all the above bearing "fruits of the spirit" will definitely open the doors of heaven. As you said, helping hands is also important- can say it's an add-on. In the book of revelation " God says I am coming soon to give according to the works of every human.
