In this video the plug is removed from the old river path to the South of Edenville Dam. This plug was formed when the Edenville Earthen Embankment failed. This created the new river path as well as plugged the old river path. The old river path had an average depth of 6ft. After the plug was removed the water drained from the old river path down river. The next day the Fisher Contracting guys transported any trapped fish down river. Currently there is a new haul road being installed at Edenville Dam. The Edenville Dam is located on what used to be Wixom Lake. Wixom Lake is located in Mid Michigan. This footage was filmed on July 15, 2021. This was after the collapse of the Edenville Dam on May 19, 2020. Wixom Lake was rapidly rising due to heavy rainfall and the Edenville dam could not hold back the water. The side of the dam failed sending water rushing towards Sanford Village. The aftermath and damage left behind is devastating. Make sure you subscribe to catch the follow up videos I will be filming.

That dam looks like to be from about the same era as the dams we have in Sherbrooke. The dams we have are run of the river with a large lake upstream regulating the flow for all dams. They have all seen major renovations in the last 2 decades. The concrete saw major repairs with some parts being demolished in part or completely and reconstructed. The gates were replaced. They kept the old gate lift, but added a more modern lifting mechanism at each dam. Dams need to be maintained. I do hope that this lesson will sink in for the US. They also added a foot bridge atop 2 of those dams. It is amazing to stand atop those dams and just feel the vibration and hear the rush of water. It really drives home the point that the power of water is something that needs to be respected. It makes for a very unique experience, especially since they are right in the city center.

Hi Jordan ! I've been following your videos for a long time, and from what I've seen, this work will last for many years to come. A single machine for all this huge area, one man working and three others just looking. This reminds me of my country, Brazil, where in a project five are looking for the only guy working. and sometimes the six are talking and the work is stopped. Very good video, you should always show with your videos the progress of work on this construction, so we can celebrate its completion in 2030/40! Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.

@aljay2955 2 жыл бұрын
My thoughts too. There should be at least a crew of 20 men with 10 machines running 7 days a week. Also a crew on all 4 dams and this could be done in 3 years. Already the completion date has moved from 2024 to 2026. As this goes along I don't think it will be done until 2030 or later.

Yes, its awesome the level of freedom he has around this massive project, but I'm sure there were a lot of legal forms/red tape that he had to jump hoops through in order to post this content in order to ultimately make money off of it via KZbin. Nothing in life is free. I do enjoy this content tho and I provide my view/thumbs up and Premium KZbin membership to bypass all of the advertisements in order to provide this young man the recognition he deserves.

It's nice to hear that they plan to restore the old river path and 'fix up' what is now the path. Again, amazing to see the extent of water that would've been behind those dam walls. How much lake do you reckon there'll be once the set up the new dam? Will those people on the lake side be able to get their access to water back? Thanks for the update.

Great work Jordan! Nice to know at least something that Fisher is working on... It seems to me there is a whole bunch of work with only a few people actually operating equipment with at least twice as many just watching... would be nice to see more equipment doing some of this massive amount of work... Maybe bringing in USACE with their equipment would speed things up greatly.

The twice as many just watching is the inspector and foreman. A requirement for safety and insurance liability. There is no room or need for another excavator on unstable ground.

Yes the dams are being replaced. By that I mean the spillways, and the missing portion of the embankments. The embankment portions of the dam have to have some slope adjustment, rip rap laid down and installing sheet pile. Other than that they won't change significantly.

Maybe I missed it, but why are they draining the old river path. I thought the whole point was to shut off the new river path and get things flowing back in the old channel. Thanks Jordan for your excellent reporting.
@rjgoniea
@rjgoniea 2 жыл бұрын
They can't redirect the flow back to the old path if it doesn't have somewhere to go once it does. Go back and look at the video where Jordan and his wife canoed there and you'll see that plug damming up the old path was quite tall. If you didn't remove it first, the water would back up and flood the area below the dam. Then, since the plug isn't engineered, just deposited, it will probably give way like the dam embankment sending a wall of water downstream.
@JordanMowbray
@JordanMowbray 2 жыл бұрын
Roberts explanation is spot on. They also dug out this old river path some more and are using this dirt to fill in the new river path
@riverwizard22
@riverwizard22 2 жыл бұрын
Why are they redirecting river. And what about old dam ? Is the routing bypassing old dam.? Maybe you could show us on a map what's going on ?
@rjgoniea
@rjgoniea 2 жыл бұрын
They need to redirect the waterflow back through the Edenville spillway location and into the original river path in order to rebuild the portion of the embankment that blew out. It would be impossible to fill in that missing section if water is running right through it and washing away everything you put down. Using the old route does not bypass the old dam, it goes right through it. The current concrete spillways will be demolished down to their base to allow free flow of the river while the embankment is repaired. Then new spillways with modern engineering will be built in the same location.
