Don't forget bonuses, that's a big reason for a lot of artists to stay in big studios and move around to different places.
@EdgeloopAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Hey brother! I totally forgot about that. Thanks for mentioning it. Probably because I didn't get my bonuses since I moved around a lot :D
@grassetti4 жыл бұрын
@@EdgeloopAcademy that's something that is not talked about a lot in the industry, it's common for studios to pay from 10% to 25% of your annual sallary every year at the end of the fiscal year + plus shipping bonuses when you finish a project + profit share of the games every quarter. The percentage increases the more time you are in the studio and the more projects you ship/experience level. That's a big benefit of being full-time. Great video brother!

@@grassetti Thanks a lot man! Would be good if we do a live or something and talk about these things. I only got 2 bonuse during the year for performance but I left the job for another one and never got the shipping bonus and it was 10% if i remember currectly on average!

Thank you for the valuable insight. I'm a 20 yr old aspiring illustrator and alll of this is new information to me. I really wasn't sure whether to choose the freedom of freelancing or the security of full-time. You explained both sides really well and I'm reminded of my original decision to become a freelancer. I'm in my third year of university for design which I've heard is a great time to start freelancing. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot.

great video Siamak!! ..freelance is really working great for me , I have many clients and I am learning a lot in each project , still have issues charging but I am doing alot better then before , one of the best advantages for me is that I can take a month break and work on my personal stuff and have time to learn and improve my portfolio
@arnabroy21934 жыл бұрын
My experience after being a freelancer and a full-time for 15 years: Freelancer- Good for single ppl, with not much social commitment, just great to learn things. But the finance is absolutely unstable, there should not be any commitment basically. And the probability of a successful full-time freelancer is pretty less cause the competition is cut-throat. So the bottom line is if you are really I mean really good at your craft and know to market yourself very very intelligently freelance can be your cup of tea for the rest of the people who like to have a decent social life with weekend plans, fulltime job is unbeatable (provided you work in a company with the decent work culture and a standard work-life balance. Glassdoor rating and your bank statement should always be the deciding factor of your career. If your career is a car passion, work satisfaction, and title credits are only the engine oil or the essential lubricants, but they are not the driving fuel.

I had a similar experience. I got my first job at an outsourcing studio last year and I'm currently trying to build my way to an in-house position now. I had to do it this way since there are no studios where I live.
@Intervain4 жыл бұрын
Well there's another side to starting as a freelancer. Personally I'm against it because I've worked on multiple projects over the years where things were outsourced to freelancers who have no idea of how a pipeline works and the artists in the studio spend double the time fixing everything the freelancers did wrong. And as a freelancer but you are in a bubble and keep repeating the same mistakes. Learn on the job to understand what it is you're working on and then go freelance. Obviously if you have the opportunity to get into a studio. Don't just discount it as an option outright though.
@EdgeloopAcademy4 жыл бұрын
I should have mentioned this in the pros of a fulltime job : you will learn the pipeline and how things work in a studio! Totally missed that. Thank you! :D

I think both of them have one Important similarity, your working and spending your time for money and it will reach the top at some point, I mean amount of money beside the time you spend. so the best way that it come to my mind is make money with which way that you can and spend it on some other works. works that you don't get pay by spending your time. like creating some product and sell it over and over...

Hi everyone, Do you any twitch streamers that are doing freelance work or talking about freelance work in 3D? Any design long-form sessions? Something like a Blender session or a Photoshop session that was useful for you? If not, any long-form honest audio or video materials about design freelancing? KZbin streams or podcast episodes that have impacted the way you see business finding ? The reason I'm asking this question here is because the search engine on twitch is not well optimized for finding topic-specific content and I know there is good content over there. Any resource/link/idea would help.
