I think a key difference between channel and stick is that with sticks, the student radio does not have to have model specific information as it effects the inputs on the master radio. Channel on the other hand bypasses the mixes on the master radio and the channels received are copied to the masters TX. There is a way for you to get the extra channels when using Sticks trainer mode. For both the Input and Mix screens, you can select any trainer input channel as a source for any input/mix. They are labeled "TR" followed by the channel number. So TR1 is student channel 1, TR5 is student channel 5, ... I think the TR sources always provide the student channels in case you were using that for controlling a camera pan/tilt or other such functionality so use activation switch when adding to mix/input. I prefer to use sticks so my trainer radio does not need to have model specific config.

For other folks like me who came over from spektrum, it should be noted that you can pair the tx16s to a dx8g2 without the need for a second tx module in the bay of the tx16s. The gen2 spekys contain an rx and tx that function simultaneously. However, the speky has to be the master and you will have to let the student handle your tx16s 😞

This is why I am happy to support you as a Patreon...you multiply my equipment investment value exponentially, as I would NEVER be able to figure this stuff out in a lifetime! I'm sure that this will not be as simple as you made it look but looking forward to the challenge. Two requests, though: 1) Can you make a Spektrum-specific quick video, since there are so many of us converts from Spektrum, and 2) Are your trainer plane STL files available somewhere? that is a VERY cool training/learning aid that you have there. Just brilliant stuff!👍👍👍👍

Yes. I was able to do it, but I had better luck using the internal radio as the DSM_RX and I put the other radio in low power mode to get a bind. That will reduce control range, so I'll probably disable low power mode before actually flying if it doesn't cause the connection to drop.

Hello John, Really like your trainer mode with the internal module it works perfect with the FrySky Xlite and a TS16S. But can you use it with the pan and tilt together on trainer mode so you can flight together. I use the headtracker project with the Arduino Nano 33 BLE. Can you run 2 trainers ad the same time or is there another option to use both.
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
I don't understand your question. You can't run two trainers on one master at the same time as far as I know. You can send from the trainer to the master any channels you want based on the trainer configuration. So if you want a pilot an co-pilot where the pilot cares for flight modes and sticks, you can do that while receiving pan and tilt from the co-pilot. I'm not sure if this is what you're asking. In any case, please join discord for follow-up. KZbin is not good at the inevitable back and forth I see coming with this question. Invite is in the description.

Hello . . .I have a question that I've been struggling with for a couple of days . . . . Can this be used to set up multiple models ?? So that a student can fly 2 or 3 different models using this method?? ie. can you have 2 or 3 models set up on the student transmitter and have them all binding to the same TX16S (that's set up in RX mode ?? ).... Thanks . .
@theoztreecrasher2647
@theoztreecrasher2647 Жыл бұрын
Of course you can. Just set up a new model on the student radio for each model you want to fly. You will want to use a different receiver number for each model in the settings otherwise (at least if using the FlyskyRX protocol that I am familiar with - no experience with Spektrum) the bind for each additional model will drop the previous binds.

Thank you for this and your older video on the same topic (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5q9lpunaMaGaKM) - between the two I was able to get my TX16s working in buddy box mode with an old Spektrum (E-flite) MLP6DSM. I wanted to share a headache that had me confused for a while. In your other video, you off-handedly mentioned using the internal 4-in-1 module as the receiver, until trying that all of my binding attempts had failed using the external module as the RX. All of the documentation suggests this doesn't matter, so I think the issue has more to do with the antenna position, using the same protocol for both (DSM) and possible receiver de-sense (overloading). Keeping that in mind, low power mode also may have helped overcome this. You mentioned some issues that you thought had to do with being too close, I'm curious if spacing the radios out resolves this or if it's the proximity of the *modules* that is the issue. I'm going to try running a coax cable to get one antenna further away. The other big thing I noticed is the latency. The "Student" controller experiences notable latency in the controls that isn't there on the Master. I'm curious if this is less of an issue with something like ELRS or another protocol. I've found complaints about Spektrum Buddy Box mode having high latency even in official Spektrum controllers with cable.

I can connect a second transmitter to my tx16s via DSM_RX, however I also only have dsm receiver in my model. Unfortunately, my tx16s has an internal CSRF protocol, so I cannot communicate with the model. Is there any way to receive and transmit via my multi module at the same time?
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
Do you cannot. Wireless trainer requires two discreet RF links: Master to Model and Student to Master. If you use MPM to connect student to master, that's it. The MPM is now used and cannot be used for other purposes. You could connect your CRSF transmitter to model and that will work. Alternatively, see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnbdaYqJrb57fZY

@@RCVideoReviews Ok, so I have gotten an ELRS reciever, which should be able to bind to my internal module on my tx16s, whilst I use dsm_rx for the buddy box on an external module, however, any time I enable CSRF on the internal module, the master radio loses and gains the student radios signal every second, constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. The buddy box works fine when I am not using the internal module. I am also not bound to the ELRS receiver. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
@JK00JK
@JK00JK Жыл бұрын
@@leemiles3995 I strongly suspect having the two antennas so close together is causing de-sense in the receiving module, it's the same logic that some planes can't bind if they are too close to the radio. I plan on re-positioning the external antenna with a coax cable. You could also do that with the internal module if you've modded it to have a removable antenna. Just make sure to use the right coax. 2.4GHz over coax can have a lot of loss. I'm going to try it with 3 ft of RG400.
