Hello!
Welcome to Edible Thoughts Makes. My name is Stephanie (she/her/hers). In this video I chat about all the Ranunculus sweaters I have knit! Each one uses different yarn and has modifications made based on the fit and function I was aiming for.
Closed captioning and video descriptions are included for accessibility (choose the non-auto-generated option).

So after seeing this video, I decided I also wanted to skip the German short, rows on the front of the sweater, but I’m not sure from the instructions where to start the next step. I completed the German short, rows for the back of the sweater, and I’m ready to go to the front of the yoke. Can you share that information with me please?

@@LDunn-kb3po For round one of section three, knit a rnd to resolve the double stitches. There won’t have a center front marker to remove because the front short rows were skipped. Continue with round two as written.

I love your detailed video. You are clever. I love all of your sweaters. Which yarn do you suggest for a very warm climate?
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! That’s really up to you to experiment! How warm someone feels and tolerance for heat is so subjective. That being said I would recommend yarns with plant fiber options! Or maybe try something that results in a looser fabric for more air flow.

Thank you so much for showing us how versatile this pattern is! Your sweaters are all beautiful and are very flattering on you. It is nice to be able to customize to get the fit you want and you did a brilliant job of that. I have knit one version of this pattern and am working on another. I think my next one will be more fitted with some waist shaping and without the front short rows on the neck. You have inspired me! Thank you so much!

I, too have made many ranunculi. I love the pattern. I have found myself purposefully purchasing yarn for different pattern …..and then saying…” I think I’ll make another ranunculus ! Most recently I’ve completed some with an unsound yarn. It looks and feels like a different pattern

Stephanie, you are definitely making me want to knit another ranunculus! I love that soft color that you’re wearing and it really does show off the stitches well. My first one I did was a beautiful royal-ish colored blue but I did it really loosely with really large needles and I don’t like it anymore. In fact, I have it in my Goodwill pile, but I’m considering starting a KZbin channel for knitting and I thought I should keep it just to demonstrate. Anyway. I also made one for my mother and then I made another one for myself that I decided to wash it and dry it a little bit and it actually shrunk and felted a little bit, but I ended up loving that version of it! So both of the ones that I have made, I only wear layered over a big oversize shirt and now I want to make one that can just stand alone and be a much tighter weave. I have finally figured out that I do not like a loose Woven sweater top layer. I just end up snagging it on things all the time. And I have two big dogs and they’ll paw me and there goes another snag and then I get mad and I don’t wanna be mad or frustrated by anything that I have on. Life throws enough of that on its own. OK, lots of rambling to say thanks that’s a great Video that I will be referring back to many times! 😊

So glad I found your YT channel! Thank you for doing this video. Love that you made multiples, all different. I am working on mine and it’s been struggle but I’m encouraged to push through because you’ve shown that it’s worth the work because you made multiple versions. Thank you again. Definitely keep up these videos. I love when knitters share what they made rather than what they want to make. They can share their experience and review and that’s valuable to me. Definitely subscribing to your channel.

This podcast inspired me to do that, finally! 😄 I especially love the look of your winter version and am brain-browsing my handspun stash for a possible version I could knit. I don’t have my yarn or tags with me but my first was a golden yellow and second a deep blue that my friend picked out. I have the teal my stepmother picked out for me to knit another for her. I am contemplating a cooler weather version for a 4th for a very knit worthy friend (who taught me to knit) using Magpie’s new Quartet Fingering base. It is plump and just might work… not sure if I will be brave enough to try the match up but certainly thinking about it. Maybe you can try it first! 😂

I am really grateful for this video. I knit the Ranunculus almost entirely (was waiting for more yarn to finish second sleeve, the rest was done), but I was not completely satisfied with the fit. It was going to be slightly more snug than I thought would be comfortable, but I kept going thinking I could block it slightly bigger. But then I just kept thinking about it as I was waiting for the other skein of yarn and decided to frog it and start over. I watched this video a second time just to gain some more insight on fit and things, and then I heard you (for the second time) talk about skipping the short rows in the front to make it slightly more scooped. Since already knitting it the first time, I understood what you were talking about and so decided that I would prefer that neckline. So it worked out well, since I was already going to redo it. Anyway, thank you for your videos! They are helpful and good inspiration. :)

I’ve been planning to knit a Ranunculus but have been intimidated (and I’m an experienced knitter), so I appreciate your tips, especially the option of omitting the front short rows for more of a crew neck instead of a boat neck. Thank you!

Hi! This has been extremely helpful! I LOVE the detail on Ranunculus sweaters. I do not like the very loose short sleeve style. You posting this is very helpful to me! I have been knitting for years and slowly learning new techniques. I am knitting a worsted weight long sleeve, yoke, top down eyelet sweater. I saw the pattern on an episode of “ Grocery Girls.” The body is done I am going to start the sleeves today. I am also working on finishing a quilt. I like working on both on the same day. Thank you, again. You explain things very well.

So many beautiful shirts and sweaters! I have been thinking for a long time to make a ranunculus but I wasn’t sure if it was easy or possible to modify it since I don’t want to use a 6 mm needle size. But seeing your lovely video has made me so eager to start my own ranunculus ☺️

Did you decrease the sleeves it look so slim i❤ your crème version the texture showed so well. I only wear long sleeve or at lease 3/4. You do inspired me. Frames are hard to gauge the yardage. Great you mention 390 grams @ 190 each hundred grams. Thsnks😊

Thank you! Just skip those instructions in the pattern! After working the back rows, skip the front short row section, knit one round to resolve the double stitches and then continue onward to the textured yoke section!

Thank you so much for this video! On my list to knit for the new year is the ranunculus… the sizing has always confused me so I wait to cast it on… do I just pick a finished circumference with the amount of ease I like? I think I just need to jump in and knit it! Thanks so much for going over all of your variations!

Thank you so much! I use German Short Rows and just pull that double stitch pretty tightly! If the stitches are still a little wonky in that area after resolving the double stitches, I'll use a yarn needle and gently even out the tension between the stitches around it.

different type of project but the same idea as far as evening out the tension in the stitches in looser areas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGGwZWmsrqamn7s

FYI I think it was a few years ago she came out with sizes 38 and up in a modifications release she did in 2022 I believe. It’s called mods for larger sizes or something incorrect like that. I know because I made the 38 and the 40. :)

You sure looks like 1/2 of size one and fit so beautifully, please tell me how many yards of yarn you used I intended to use Aran yarn, 🧶 @very about 7 of 50g . I started everything the pattern I cast on over 25 times and can’t get through my head so I gave up I dump my yellow Dk cotton yarn . I’m used by yards and the designer no mention the amount is f yarn needed . But decided to knit a different sweater. Since I’m not familiar using pattern. I learned knitting from a Romanian lady only spoke Romain and a little French all by looked not by pattern. Since you knit size one and done so many perhaps to can shade sine light these way to encourage starting again every one seems to said it was easy😵‍💫🫣thanks

Yardages are listed on the designer’s page for the pattern - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ranunculus-3. Note that amount of yarn used and will vary significantly depending on yarn weight, fiber content, and modifications. I have all yardages listed on my Ravelry project pages for each of my projects and recommend you check there if you’re able to. Best wishes!

Held single. It isn’t a very thin fingering weight - a little closer to sportweight in my opinion. Plus I knit at different gauge than the pattern.

Hi Stephanie. I just bumped into this video and now I'll need to follow your channel, and knit a Ranunculus! Could you talk to me a bit about ease. When I heard you say that the smallest size is 46" I was immediately put off. But you are petite and it works for you, clearly. I have a 34" bust and don't like things that are super oversized. I know you said you knit the size 1 in all cases. Are you sweaters 46" at the chests? One of them you said is 39". Did you knit everything to a different gauge than the pattern calls for? I can see that would work but then also starts to get complicated....any intel you can provide on this front would be appreciated! I love how yours fit on you - they do not look oversize, just nice and comfortable with drape. Thank you!

Hi welcome! All the Ranunculus sweaters have the Ravelry project pages linked in the description box so you can find all the details on gauge there. I do believe I noted their gauges on the screen in the video as well. And with varying gauges, the resulting positive ease varied. Because the pattern is written for such a loose gauge, there's a lot of wiggle room to size down with a tighter gauge. You just need to know your preferred yoke depth to see if you need to adjust that section when knitting the pattern (and so that the arm holes end up being at a circumference you like). In general, I feel that with airier fabrics, more positive ease doesn't feel as cumbersome as more dense or heavier weight fabrics with that same amount of ease - but it varies by preference!! Hope that helps!
@mgy32
@mgy32 11 ай бұрын
@@EdibleThoughtsMakes Thanks so much for your helpful and quick reply. I was thinking that the fact the yoke depth/underarms aren't so far off of where your underarms actually are is likely a big part of why the fit is so nice and doesn't seem big and shapeless. I will definitely give this pattern a try -- you know, along with the other 22K Ravelry knitters! Thanks again, your variety of takes on this pattern is inspiring and helpful to see. Can't wait to see your next one!
