This is a good idea! If you hear me through the PA during the cockpit announcement, let the cabin crew know that you want to say hello when you leave the plane. This is still possible during the time when the airplane entry doors are open. I hope to see you soon! Merry Christmas to you!

A lot of respect for these guys. Flying into my airport, hopefully if the rosters ever clash. I'll film his ramp turnaround with my crew and have a little colab. Sorry Jet2, Ryanair guys, but c'mon its a sexy airbus

Really love your videos, I've been wondering how you brake on the taxiway so quickly, cause reducing the thrust lwvers to idle wouldn't hault the aircraft suddenly right? How do you guys brake so quickly when taxiing before setting the parking brake?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your great feedback! When arriving at the parking position, the thrust levers are set to idle and we use the brake pedals to slow the speed down to zero. The brakes are made to decelerate the plane after landing or during a takeoff abort. Hitting the brakes at taxi speed can instantly stop the airplane. We have to be careful when using the brakes. Idle thrust will not stop the plane. We usually taxi with idle thrust and depending on the load, the plane even may increase the speed. So we have to use the brakes once in a while to keep the speed under control.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos oh okay, the brake pedals are located where the rudder pedals are right?

Immer wenn es heißt "Runway in sight" frage ich mich, wo ist sie denn ? Haben Sie "Adleraugen" oder gibt das die Kamera nicht her ? Ansonsten freue ich mich über jedes Video. Schöne und ruhige Festtage !

Can I ask a simple question. Will the ILS approach still be active with auto pilot off ?

Yes, the autopilot follows the indications of the flight directors. If the autopilot is switched off, the pilot flying is steering the plane in accordance to the flight director command bars. It is still an ILS approach!

Hello captain I love you videos and I always enjoy watching them, but I have a question does the A320 use a tiller or only the rudder for taxing?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Ай бұрын
Thanks for your great feedback! The A320 has a tiller near the left sidestick and another tiller near the right sidestick. We can use the rudder and the tiller for taxiing.

Great landing and stunning scenery! Jus a stupid question: when you disconnect the autopilot, do you cancel also the automatic landing? Thank you!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your financial support of the channel as a member! Automatic landings are done by the autopilot. If both autopilots are off, no automatic landings are possible. Without autopilot, the plane must be handflown by the pilot flying with the sidestick.

What does "100 above" actually mean?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Good question. It means that we are 100 feet above the decision altitude or minimum descent altitude at which we have to see the runway or the approach lights to continue the approach for a landing.

Captain, I love your videos and I will always be waiting for your new videos to drop. Till then I will be re-watching the old ones lol. Your videos are borderline therapeutic. Quick question, @3:18 it was said winds are at 8 knots out of northerly...wasnt it 18? I may have misheard it as 8 :-)
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Maybe the ND (navigation display) of the first officer showed 8 knots instead of the 18 knots on the ND on the captain side which is visible in the video. The PFDs and NDs of the captain and the first officer have different data sources, do their own calculations and may differ a bit. Also, he may have said 18 knots and it was not recorded completely.

Kind of surprised they didn't switch runways, a steady 15knt tailwind all the way down?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Tailwind at touchdown was about 6 knots. This is not nice but acceptable as long as it stays below 10 knots or if arriving planes would complain about the wind.

Edinburgh has a rough landing strip giving the appearance of a less than smooth landing. The approach and touchdown was performed flawlessly. Another fine example of your professionalism. Thank you.

The entire runway is overdue for replacement, which is now going to happen in 2025. There have been multiple occasions lately when the runway has had to be closed to make emergency repairs (I tried to post this comment earlier with a link to the news story but it got removed).
