@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 ай бұрын
We share the flights equally. If we do 2 flights, all pilots are flying one flight as pilot flying. If we do 4 legs, both pilots do 2 legs as pilot flying. We define who is pilot flying before our first flight when we meet for the work day. The Captain is always taxiing the airplane, and the controls are changed to the First Officer when he or she is pilot flying at takeoff.

Another very interesting video, thanks. Maybe this is too big a question to answer here but in what circumstances does control tell you to descend and in what circumstances do you have to request descent from control? Is it simply that you have to ask when it looks as if control has forgotten to tell you to descend?
@ApproachandDepartureVideosАй бұрын
Thanks for your good feedback and the question! We ask for descent as soon as we reach our precalculated descent point. ATC can not know exactly when we reach this point because it depends on circumstances which only we know in the airplane. It includes the used cost index, the airplane weight or the remaining idle thrust of the engines. This differs even from airplane to airplane. When we fly in busy airspaces, ATC usually instructs us to descent earlier than at our precalculated top of descent. This may be needed due to the general traffic situation. Fuel wise, an early descent may need a little more fuel for the flight.
@neilkingАй бұрын
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Yes, I guessed it would be the case that you ask control for descent for the reasons you say. But I thought I heard in this video (or maybe another one) control telling you to descend. But maybe I missed you asking and control saying standby and what I heard was control coming back to you with the clearance to descend. Or something like that! Thanks for the reply anyway,

Great video! Thank you! Why do you land with flaps full instead of flaps 3 with a very light plane?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Thanks! We can use full or 3. When landing with an empty plane with flaps 3, we would just need very little thrust and when being a bit fast, it would be almost idle. I prefer flaps full for light airplanes.

Amazing video as usual! May I humbly suggest you try and switch the bigger camera slot to either one of the cockpit views? (the one who's flying preferably). Think external views are the ones most aviators are not interested in this type of videos!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your feedback! The idea behind the channel is to show a picture which is very similar to what at person will see who is sitting on the jumpseat and flying with us in the cockpit. Videos with great outside views get more views in comparison to videos with no view or lots of clouds. I personally like the combination of the instruments, the pilots views and the outside view. If additional people are interested in videos with a little or almost no outside view, I could make a second version of one or the other video and publish it in the members-only section of this channel.

Amazing video as always. I am wondering why this aircraft needed to be repositioned. Dusseldorf is Eurowings hub/base. Any flight could have been originated using this plane.
@livenzerett23593 ай бұрын
Eurowings has maintainence facilities in Düsseldorf and Stuttgart is also one of the many Hubs of Eurowings. It's possible they performed maintainence in Dus which they had no facility in STG to do it. But STG could have had a plane based there which had a defect and therefore needed replacement which was only availible in DUS.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
I do not know why this particular plane had to be positioned from Düsseldorf to Stuttgart. Positioning flights are avoided and very rare. Sometimes it is needed if planes divert to other airports due to weather, airport closure or other reasons. Also, positioning flights may be needed if the original scheduled plane is defect or not available. To avoid the cancellation of the flight, a replacement airplane may be flown in from another base.
@marioschmitz48753 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын

Hallo Captain, on the EDDS ground chart there are taxiways in red. Does that mean you may not enter those taxiways? For example "M" - I guess there are parking positions you may not use? And taxiway "G"? Aren´t you allowed to enter "G" for takeoff and landing? Is the colour meant to help pilots to have a quicker overview? Thank you and have a nice week!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question and your financial support of the channel as a member! Lido, the chart provider marks taxiways with a brown overlay if the taxiway is somehow restricted for large airplanes. Examples are an allowed wingspan of less than 50 meters or 164 feet or a taxiway width of less than 22 meters or 72 feet. Details for every airport are published on our LIDO AOI pages. In Stuttgart, taxilane M east of taxilane H allows a max wingspan of 36 meters. Taxiways C, E and G are only available up to code letter D aircraft. These are airplanes with a wingspan of less than 52 meters. Have a nice day!
@danielpike37783 ай бұрын
Ok, it's brown and not red 🤓 so normally with the 320 family you shouldn't run into problems with the wingspan I guess?thank you very much for the explanation ✈️
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
@@danielpike3778 We always have to check against the AOI pages. In Stuttgart, Taxilane Exit 2 is only good for a max wingspan of 20 meters and Taxilane Exit 3 for a max. wingspan of 29 meters. Both cannot be used by an Airbus A319, A320 and A321.
@danielpike37783 ай бұрын

Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und die Frage! Der DLR-Test ist nicht leicht. Es gibt kommerzielle Anbieter, die Vorbereitungsseminare anbieten. Another cool video !!!. Got little questions 1) at 46:00 she gave clearance to 3500 then 3300.let me know if i got it right. She cleared you to 3500 because she already gave you HDG beyond UNSER(4000) but why 3300 after that? May be she thought you would still be high but GS intercepted at 3500 anyway it didnt change anything. 2.)using CS before or after the readback is ok isnt it, none better than the other?(Eurowings 123 rwy 25 clear to land or Rwy 25 clear to land Eurowngs 123).Thank you.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your financial support of the channel as a member! The ILS receiver works in conjunction with the autoflight system so that it first starts the interception of the localizer and then the interception of the glideslope. In addition, the glideslope interception altitude has to meet the center beam of the glideslope. If you arrive too high, the plane will never intercept the glideslope. This was the reason for the additional descent clearance. Due to the HDG, there was a good chance that we did not cross UNSER at 4000 feet. Without the further descent clearance that airplane may have stayed at 4000 feet on the localizer because it would have arrived above the glideslope beam on the localizer. Usually, ATC uses the wording "Eurowings 123 Runway 23 cleared to land" and we answer "Runway 23 cleared to land Eurowings 123". Sometimes, we do readbacks for ATC instructions with the callsign at the beginning. We do this when we want to gain some time to dial the clearance into the flight management and guidance system and to do the readback from the entered data.
@atschi2000phil3 ай бұрын
The Minimum for ATC on that heading is A3500ft, then a little bit later it's A3300. So ATC offers the lowest possible to enable an approach with 1NM straight and level.

Dear captain, I have another question ... Detailed somehow ... When the pilots set the pitch trim it is entered in the Mcdu e.g. (flaps)1/0.4UP and the the trim wheel is turned to that position (0.4UP) and checked on the lower ecam where this number is shown accordingly. I hope that's right so far. Now.. when the AFTER START CL PITCH TRIM is read pilots do not read and check the 0.4UP value but the % shown on the INIT B page I think and the corresponding % value on the trim wheel? Why not just read and check the 0.4UP value on the PERF PAGE and the check on the lower ecam? Wow, I hope I'm not mixing up things and also that this is not a too pingelige Frage ;) picky ⁉️ thank you ❤😊
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
First of all: Thank you very much for your financial support of the channel as a member! This helps the channel a lot! Great question! We use the percent values to avoid a mix up of up or down trim. Until a few years ago, we used the trim by the up or down value and also checked it in accordance during the checklist. Airbus introduced the change because their fear is that we set the trim to for example 2.5 up instead of 2.5 down. With the percentage value this cannot happen. Have a nice day!

First of all: Thanks a lot for your financial support of the channel as a member! The support of the members is really important! To reduce the risk of TCAS resolution advisories, we reduce the climb rate when approaching the cleared altitude to about 1500 FPM or lower when 1000 feet below the cleared level or altitude. This is required as long as we expect nearby traffic above our cleared level. If there is no traffic, we could continue with the high rate until reaching ALT*

Does every a320 handle different ?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
They all handle very similar when operated in similar conditions: Same weight and same center of gravity. The difference in the handling is only if the planes are loaded differently.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos4 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын

@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Here we took the train back and after a 4 hour train ride plus the flight and the flight preparation we were done for the day. Sometimes, we continue as pilots on a different plane or even on the same plane after ferrying the plane. Deadheading on another flight back was not possible because between Stuttgart and Düsseldorf no airline offers scheduled flights. It all depends on the unique situation.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos3 ай бұрын
Oft hören wir: "Fly xxx knots or more oder xxx knots or less". Oder aber die Frage: "Are you able to increase your speed?"
