Music by John Barry, lyrics by Don Black. The melody is also known as 'The John Dunbar Theme and was composed for the Kevin Costner film 'Dances With Wolves' in 1990. John Barry's music for the film won the Oscar for best film score for 1990.

I heard Here's to the Heroes for the first time the other night at a concert. It was sung by a Military Wives Choir and hearing it sung by a group of women who sang this from the heart, made me cry. I looked this up when we came home and cried all over again!
