EDITORS NOTE: *this video is not monetised & I have made a donation to MIND in memory of Yuko Takeuchi.* Link if you're able to donate: bit.ly/3wDxWcX I'm usually here to make jokes. But I want to say a few words about Yuko Takeuchi, and about love. Love, I think, is what makes a story a Sherlock Holmes Story. Love over Loneliness. Long coats, fast words, quirky crime scenes - they come and go, the details ever changing. What I really come back for is the love story (however you define it). Love of a landlady, an inspector, a brother, a flatmate, strangers in need. And with that: redemption; the chosen family; hope that anyone - no matter how lonely or damaged or scared they are - ends up exactly where they are meant to be. When Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Sherlock Holmes over the cliff edge, it was the fans that held on to him. Who filled the streets and wrote letters and pulled him back up, to the land of the living. He was wanted here, and so the story kept going. It's what it has always been about. So I am thinking about Yuko Takeuchi, who is forever a beautiful part of the Sherlock Holmes story, and who is no doubt missed by all who knew her. And I am thinking about anyone reading this, who is lonely, and loved, and scared, and who I promise will end up exactly where they are meant to be. Stay here. Be needed. Need others. Stand by them. And let them do the same for you. Love, Bee.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I was heartbroken to learn about Yuko Takeuchi's passing. She was a fantastic Sherlock and did the character justice.
@Cup_of_tea4242 жыл бұрын
wait oh my god... Yuko was found hanged in her apartment... I don't even know what to type right now, it feels like this has to be addressed, but... what can I say? She appeared to be young and healthy, but we don't know how her real life must have been. It breaks my heart to hear of a suicide, it is possibly the most tragic ending to a life that could exist. If I believed in a god or heaven, I would hope that she is there now, perhaps enjoying some sort of life away from the pain and hardships on this planet. I don't believe in heaven, but I hope that what ever caused her so much grief, no longer exists, that would be the closest to justice you can get.

I loved this HBO/HULU coproduction show and it was heartbreaking when I learned the sad news that the wonderful Yuko Takeuchi would never reprieve her outstanding interpretation of the greatest consulting detective. This adaptation did borrow heavily (perhaps even stole?) from the BBC adaptation of Sherlock. Although I'm sure there must have been some agreement or permission? Although instead of the two hour long heavy episodes of the latest British television incarnation, this feminine Japanese version skipped along at a much lighter and faster one hour pace. But it had so much that was uniquely and culturally it's own being set in Japan that it absolutely deserves to be honoured legitimately among the best adaptations by Holmes fans everywhere. It gave the character and the legacy of Sherlock the due respect it deserves. And of course, the other leading co star in this series was the city of Tokyo. Just as London was in other adaptations. And of course New York in Elementary. But at least for one series, we all now know how fabulous Sherlock looked in killer heels 👠 Aided and abetted by her medical friend and companion, Wato san. Or Doctor Wato Tachibana to give her her correct title. Returning back home after volunteering as a medic from the war in Syria suffering from PTSD and ending up sharing lodgings together in number 222B with a very brilliant, strange and eccentric, but also very feminine Oxford educated consulting detective. Sara Shelly “Sherlock” Futaba. I'm glad I came across this tribute today. Well done.
