We can all do transition and masking but the hardest part is telling a story and making it flow right especially 10 mins of editing and when you have to deal with so much footage it's a pain to match the music and footage and flow of the story

@@youwang9156 Brandon Li uses Totolovision or The Pro Color settings for the A7SII or A7SIII. He rarely uses Luts or Slog profiles and just warms or cools the scene according to the message he wants to convey. It's a really subtle and clever use of color.

This wasn't mentioned in the analysis (because it was a technical one so its perfectly fine) but the story being told is super interesting, mainly using contrasting situations. At the begining with the modern vs ancient ways, then super urban alienation vs nature, then a clinic and a school (a "decent way of life") vs a "street" ("not decent way of life") tattoed badass guy and then, from the school or seminar -formal- to a female k pop dance group -informal- theeeeen, young people competing in physical activities -male dancers- vs static ability -male gamers- TTTTTTTTTHEN male gamers vs old gamers (playing Janggi in a park), the market scene as a separator that unites both worlds (since they are eating the same types of diet from thousands of years) and then a contrast between the modern building from which the camera came out to the old temple and the old traditions (the hit on the bell by the monk), AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. Lastly, the contrast at the end between the gamers and the students is remarkable. The great pression on both (the clock) for passing the test/winning and achieving the "fame" goal. There's a great conflict in some countries of Asia regarding this exact topic because they are very strict when it comes to what means to be a decent member of society (they have a record rate when is comes to suicidal tendecies for having bad notes in school/university or not being able to get into some particular institution). In this regard gamers were seen as a shame but in the last decade esport became a thing, gamers became pop stars and now the old definitions are being challenged and I believe that the video is masterfully showing all this. Sorry about the rant, this guy is a genius. Of course this is just my analysis and it can be super wrong but... who knows.

Finally, a viewer who perceives more than just flashy effects and gimbal prowess, which this video does lean on to the extreme. It’s a good thing to remember that ‘story’ is always king and Brandon knows this only too well, which is why he used these techniques (maybe too much) but still got away with it. He knows the rules so could feel free to break them. I’ve not seen this vid before viewing it here, so will have to jump over to his channel now and check out the whole piece with sound up full and no commentary, to really know if he pulled it off. But great analysis from the technical side here and appreciate the time spent breaking it down. And thanks for your comment especially to add to our awareness of the story behind it all.

Brandon Li is not just about transitions or gimbal or zooming or build-up... it's about how he put them all together to emphasize the message he was telling (the cultural life of korea - traditional and modern, the religious, the politicians, the fast life, the highly competitive life..) and how it all started as an innocent kid just wanting to study and learn. And Brandon effectively used the techniques not for us to just know but also to FEEL what's happening.. It is so immersive that sometimes we dont want it to end. For me this - the totality - is the main thing that makes this video sooo great.

Aside from all the amazing things I’ve learned from him one of the best has been switching to Final Cut Pro. I have thought about making a video talking about my experience working for him but I feel weird putting his name in the tittle. Idk i feel like it would seem like I’m just doing it for clout but maybe someone can benefit from it. Yeah, Brandon's a master at the gimbal. He also uses the Laowa 15mm f/2 a lot. You noticed the wide shots a few times. He also puts the gimbal up on a monopod a lot, as you observed. When he first posted this video, no faces were blurred. He blurred them shortly after uploading. I guess he got some complaints. By the way, he also has a video where he, himself, does an analysis of this video and explains the idea behind it. You'll be just as blown away if you watch more of his videos. He's so good, it's just ridiculous.

Brandon li's effects n transitions r subtle n dont make you distracted from the story ....

The long reverse I think he walked backwards out the whole way. You can see one lady walking backwards when you simulated him going forward.

Brando li is so underrated on KZbin

5:58 the shot was reversed you can tell by how the guy was spitting out the noodle instead of sipping into his mouth

Hey! Could you please explain the clip at 3:50 (in his original video, you didn't show that clip here)?? How the camera is not visible at that lady's screen?? BTW love the way you so easily breakdown each and every cuts and transition. Thanks.

Haha really interesting detail that I totally did not realize! This can be created very easily and I guess that's how it's done: they just played a previously recorded clip that was filmed in that exact setup on the tablet and the camera was recording live that moment. Really happy to hear your feedback and thanks so much for supporting 👋😃

Do you have any tips for pre-production? Do these editors have everything pretty much planned out for what/how they will transition?
@FlorianLand5 жыл бұрын
that is a really good question, gabriella. to be honest I dont know how they exactly do it. I dont assume everything is all planned out beforehand it's simply way too many clips and cuts for one person to plan all that out beforehand in my opinion. however what they of course think about beforehand is what kind of general transitions they will be using, which then determines in which way the need to film and move the camera. then in the edit you actually see which of the clips then fit together best. that's how I would do it!

In South Korea many people are very self conscious about where their faces appear. Gossip and slander can cause serious harm to a person’s employability here. That’s why many people got blurred.
@FlorianLand5 жыл бұрын
ah, that sounds like an understandable explanation. thanks for sharing that insight!
