President Trump plans to impose the 25% tariffs on Canadian goods on February 4. An economist says if Canada retaliates, this could hurt both sides in the end. Our Leo Cruzat has the story.

The US can also get oil easily from the Saudis, it's just more convenient and cheaper from Canada. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and just chill out a bit.

Go Canada! 🇨🇦 Canada should think about selling its oil to South Korea instead of the US. South Korea is the 4th largest buyer of oil in the world & 80% of it is from the Middle East with much higher price than what Canada charges the US. Even if Canada charges South Korea with the same high price the Middle East nations charge, South Korea will end up saving money because the shipping distance from Canada is much closer than the Middle East. It's a win-win case for both Canada & South Korea.

Unfortunately, whatever you read is usually by a proponent of one side of the other, meaning a load of poop on one side of the other is often buried with it To me, the answer to your question, is, if they want it they would be taking it right now. Asia was not taking what we had before the pipeline was expanded. I don't know what the numbers are, but if they wanted it, they would be taking it. Now. I used to know where to find the numbers but the facts were that the light oil refined in Alberta was primarily for consumption and refining in Vancouver The heavy oil across the border at sumas BC and went to Washington refineries. Some made it to tankers which went to West coast American refineries. I don't know what happened after 20/20, but prior to that, it was like there was no interest in the heavy oil being sent to Asia. Would be interesting to know if that has increased. Because again, if South Korea or anyone else in Asia wanted it, they would be taking it right now, and Alberta would be gladly supplying it.

Unfortunately, Canada lacks the infrastructure to sell it elsewhere at least for a while and about 40% of Canada's income is from selling things to the US. It is definitely not as easy as late. I'm American and not real happy about any of this, but you need to understand that while this will hurt the US and also the car industry of all three countries, it will cripple Canada 😢

We have oil that can be sold at market prices, we electricity that gets sold for peanuts, we have an abundance of minerals, we have Africa and Europe on one side and China on the other. Lastly we have Mexico and South America. You can buy Canadian made products , diverse your groceries, we have great wines in Ontario and BC. US putting tariffs does not impact us importing from the US though. How do people not understand how tariffs work. A US tariff on Canada means Americans must pay that extra percentage to buy Canadian. You don't understand how tariffs work. The US putting a tariff on Canada makes it more expensive for Americans to buy Canadian goods. So a 25% tariff makes Canadian oil 25% more expensive for Americans to buy, that increase being nothing Canada receives. If Canada puts a 100% tariff on the US in regards to oil, that does nothing to increase the cost of Canadian oil for them. Tariffs are an increase on IMPORTING something from that country, not exporting something to them. The media has utterly failed you.

The States already had a Tariff, so i tried to never buy from there, especially on line. The tariff could be as much as the product. Where from China stuff costs about 10% of the Canadian price. Its not always the same quality so buyer beware, but even Amazon is that way. Prices will all be inflated, until things stabilize. The smartest thing Alberta and Canada could do is run a Natural Gas, and oil line east and west so we can sell the world our resources. And build a way to clean our oil up to Texas t value. Or we will go broke.

Hopefully Americans won't want to travel to Canada for their vacations. While some are polite a large portion are incredibly rude. I never go to America and already limit what I buy that isn't grown here. Over the years I've missed many American and cheap products from other countries the quality of thr items I buy are better so while my friends are constantly fighting for warranty exchanges I have had many of the same products since I started buying them in my early 20s. I'm in my 40s now so saving in the moment doesn't usually save you long term.
