Better tech, better features, easier and cheaper to own and maintain and repair, nearly the same exact performance at a fraction of the cost. I’ve had mine for over a year and I love it. Dog Mode, Sentry Mode, FSD, hatchback, insanely good speakers, supercharging… Wouldn’t trade it for a second.

Plaid here costs at least 110k with the track pack. Fully optioned with a nice colour and cruise control it can go as high as 130k Older models were more expensive too.

as someone who daily's a plaid, you ABSOLUTELY need to do this in track mode. You have massivly increased breaking power and the stability control is optimized for turning, drag strip does almost absolutely nothing, its a gimmick. But man that porshe is phenomenal, shame the price gap is so huge.

Not really it has 3 motors and way more HP. They just got 1.41 Gs for the cornering. Which could probably be even better considering vs the lucid they got 1.3 Gs .. taycan handles alot better then both which matters alot when it comes to fun driving. Also the weisach package will probably beat the lucid to the QM. Taycan only loses at the top end.

The distance between their office and the Ring is 5,907 miles with flight time of 12 hours plus time to drive to the airport plus time to drive to the Ring. Thanks again for doing this race! In the real world $260K vs. $110K is no comparison, except for Porsche fans and millionaires. The difference is that I may actually own a Tesla Model S Plaid someday, soon. Whereas the new Taycan "Turbo" and Lucid Sapphire will likely take some time to drop down from a 1/4 million to $60K. The harder comparison question includes the new $50K-$60K Model 3 Performance! The Plaid was going a full 6MPH faster than the Taycan, and this quicker time moves the Plaid further past the Exotic McLarens, and everything else on Edmund's list, save the $250K Sapphire and Taycan.

Why was the Plaid so slow in this race? I have never seen one that only did 142 mph in the 1/4 mile. They are typically closer to 152 mph and I don’t think I have ever seen one go below 145 mph.

142mph trap speed is a VERY LOW trap speed for the Tesla even with 77% charge. The Porsche only has 3,117 miles and it also has a much higher state of charge for these races. Even with that said, the Plaid still hit 162mph and the Porsche hit 155mph.

He shaved off half a second. End of the day the taycan is faster 0-60,QM, and on track. So all real world testing it is the better car. I could even argue it's more comfortable to daily thanks to their new adaptive air suspension that moves with the road surface. No more bumps

Track mode increases breaking power massively and allows for full throttle through turns, its impossible to do any kind of performance driving without track mode, it turns it from a luxury family sedan into a super car. The cooling system is only a minor part of the package you get with track mode.

The Plaid came out as a 2021 model. Other manufacturers have come out with high power EVs since then while the Plaid has remained unchanged (except for track package) since then. Tesla needs to continue development if they want to keep up.

You wanna do Taycan with "Weissach Package" which deletes rear seats let's go ahead and delete rear seats in Plaid. Plaid still stronger top end. Oh and Taycan is 250K+ while Plaid is now 90K brand new

I've talked with Porsche engineer who said that the actual peak power is over to 1200hp. Which makes sense as Model S Plaid in reality makes close to 1200hp according to dyno results. It shows who Porsche has been benchmarking this thing against. Too bad full power is only available in short bursts.

Notice the higher trap speed of the Plaid? If the runway was longer the Plaid would have caught up and passed the GT. GT was able to edge out a win due to the "boost" button. You can always feed more electrons to make a BEV go quicker but range suffers. Plaid is good for 320 miles per charge versus the GT's 276 miles per charge. Anything less than 300 miles per charge in 2024 is pathetic.

Good content. Just an FYI for you EV owners who like to race on dragways or road courses. There are currently 3 known race tracks that are bannning EV's from their tracks. Angelesay Circuit in Wales UK, Willowbank Raceway in Queensland Australia and Summet Point in West Virginia. Major concerns are shock hazards and or fires after a crash. Flammable gasses effecting track rescue personnel, too track fire fighting concerns, where most track rescue equipment is designed for gas/oil fires, are not suited for batterie fires. Also concerns of, after a crash some cars have flush door handles, and electric locks will not operate from inside the vehicle. 🤔
