I taught ebd kids for 9 yrs in different comps in South Yorkshire and I was.... and there are schools that actually care! And many teachers too!

Having worked within a school (in Yorkshire) as a cover supervisor (basically a sub within a single school who all the kids know) I noticed that the “naughty” kids would often be spoken to in a confrontational way by a lot of staff IMMEDIATELY But then if you were nice to them and had a rapport they’d be lovely If a teacher joked around and was supportive of Jack, they’d actually probably get him more on board with school

From my expirience growing up in Yorkshire, that attitude and approach often ends up negatively affecting other students. The loud and naughty kids can end up acting up more to get those interactions or the staff end up becoming overly close and attentive to those students while ignoring other kids with problems.

@@Kai-no9os don't put words in my mouth, I never gave a solution to the issue, I only pointed it out. Shouting is just 1 method and not a very good one, while it has its place in the raising and disciple of a child/children, the real answer is more nuanced.

Those teachers are absolutely class. I also think that when Jack left the room with that teacher because he didn't want to swear at him, tbh, as somebody with anger issues myself, I think he was on the right path to self control. He removed himself from a situation where he knew he was gonna blow his lid.

As someone who acted exactly like jack at school and also from Yorkshire whenever i entered the classroom the teachers would immediately try find a reason to kick me out, some teachers would just automatically tell me to leave the classroom as i opened the door. i literally didn't go to any of my classes apart from English as the teacher was so supportive even gave me food and tea, coffee and also sweets at the start and half way in between class as it would actually get my attention to the lesson.

i liked your point on how they treated jack and being confrontational, although its not quite the same for me i have a LOT of teachers immediately treat me with the attitude that im going to leave their lesson and that im doing it for fun which just makes things sm worse 😭

Jack reminded me so much of my own son. We finally made it through school but it was so hard for everyone. He just could not help himself. He went out of his way to make everything hard for everyone. I have no doubt Jack is capable of great things, I wish him all the best once he finds his footing.

Your videos always brighten up my day when I'm in a not so good space. Being able to get across mature points of view while also making tons of jokes really makes these videos just so great. This episode really shows how impactful both good and bad teachers can be towards improving or decreasing kids progress. Personally I've had a mostly bad experience with school. I'd cry and have big breakdowns almost everyday at school and the school wasn't very good with handling it. A small selection of teachers where really good to me and they would be patient with me and just be very sweet and understanding which is really crucial to have teachers like that for people who are really struggling like me. But I found lots of teachers would just be kind of harsh and say not so helpful things and just generally get annoyed at me for being upset. Now the school only lets me come for 2 classes a day because they just can't handle my mental breakdowns anymore. Which kinda sucks because I'm so bored all the time but hey at least I got Cam Kirkham videos and uploads to get me through the day. Lots of love, keep up the amazing content

there are so many improvements that teachers need to make when offering support to students. though my experience isn't as severe as yours, i struggled to find motivation in year 11 and my teachers just didn't care abt my mental health. if teachers could be more empathetic towards students, school would've been a bit easier to deal with :(

For context I'm a teacher in the UK. The pastoral team here is great! But also the wondering round, that school would get slated by ofsted now for safeguarding concerns. The most effective way to stop kids doing that is actually having conversations with those students (about anything they're interested in) - I have two students that are serial non-attenders to most lessons, but for me they not only do they attend every lesson, they arrive early! And offer to help me with tasks to set up the lesson. Also that isn't a staff room, it's an office of some sort. Students are often pulled into meetings with various members of staff for different reasons.

Jack used to go to my primary school and then my high school before he moved to Thornhill. He actually only lived a few streets down from me before he moved, I didn't know him that well because hes a few years older but he seemed quite sad from what I remember, I hope this new school and town was better for him

I went to school in Easington Colliery, they wouldn't of dared filmed there, teachers swore just as much as the kids 😂😂😂 I left sxhool 17 years ago. My school is now some posh academy! Great vid as always :-)

We had a guy similar to Jack at my high school who'd kick off at anyone who said anything wrong or made a wrong move ect. I somewhat befriended him though as I'd say hello too him and give him a smile each time I'd go past and occasionally we'd have small conversations, he was a pretty decent fellow underneath all this anger and defense mechanisms. I hope he's doing well now in his adult life

I worked in a high school, and part of the lunchtime and break time teams, its hard work and the kids are generally great, however, ive had to break up fights, chase after kids trying to escape, clean up vomit, try to get kids to go to class instaed of hiding in many areas of the school, put up with ALot of abuse! 😅 But all in all I loved it! And some teachers are amazing but not all!

I haven’t watched this before and it’s actually insane to see as someone who works with students who have additions and behavioural needs. The head of year and school head shows everything wrong with mainstream education, a shame for the great practitioners still working in education who truly care.
