I read the book French Kids Eat Everything and applied the French way of eating to my child as much as possible from the time he started eating. He’s 4 now and loves steak, lamb, soups, green smoothies, black coffee, anchovies, and a ton of other things. Hates pasta and chicken nuggets and Mac n cheese ironically.
@betsybabf7483 жыл бұрын
She's beautiful. I'm a 40-something widowed mom, with 5 children. Same in America...it's all decisions. You can cook healthy or unhealthy when cooking dinner. Kids will eat what is available & usual for them. Meal prep plays a huge part, especially with teens. If you make individual salads, which are ready in the fridge to easily grab, with a selection of prepared lean protein for them to choose to put with their salad, that is what they will grab on their own for lunch because it's easier, cheaper and more convenient than fast food options. Then as they grow up, that is the diet which they are used to and feel is normal.

There is an elegance I always find in French women of all ages that I often miss in the Anglo Saxon world. I think it’s the natural calm common-sense approach / an easy, uncomplicated approach to life that is so appealing that also translates to the approach with food My mum is the same / although of German extraction and not French

Your mom is spot on! I used her approach raising my own children and now that they are young adults, I am proud to see that they eat everything! They prepare (mostly) healthy meals now that they are on their own. Shopping, preparing and eating food can and should be pleasurable. Most Americans have an unhealthy relationship with food. They view it as reward or punishment or drudgery to prepare. Thanks for your always interesting content.
@1marianne3 жыл бұрын
Your mom is lovely! Great video. Eating as a family every night used to be an American tradition also. I am not sure how that all changed, but it definitely did. I think our "busy" culture is partly to blame. Americans claim to be too busy to shop, plan or cook, when really it's not difficult. I also notice so many parents seem to think fast food, junk food, etc is okay for kids, but not for adults. But parents who teach their kids to eat junk are doing them a great disservice. They will have bad habits that are hard to break.

Your mom is stunning. I'm in the U.S, and it is pretty hard as a mom making sure meals are balanced, simple, healthy, etc. My daughter is 3 and I'm trying to raise her with a good balance of foods and an overall healthy idea of food. When I was younger, my parents really didn't spend a lot of time on that subject and meals were pretty quickly made or convenience foods since both my parents were Military and busy. Y'all seem to have a good relationship with food 😊

From America: at the time I was brought up (late 90's early 2000), we had very vague and little nutritional education. Complicate that even more, most from mixed raced households had grandparents with a single income so, if they are blessed with two parents, they had more time to make traditional, time consuming meals. That's why there is a demand for your videos! We need this to educate us on how to cook in general and most importantly how to cook reasonable, healthy, and simple meals. For example, I would never had made ratatouille if not for seeing you make it in a previous video because all the recipes I've seen are much too intimidating. My family really liked it by the way so thank you for that!

Wonderful video ladies. We in the US used to have family meals together where everyone ate the same thing. It wasn't until the 2000's that parents started feeding their kids fast-food (different from the parents). I know so many kids that refuse chicken if it's not in nugget form and refuse normal meals if not a burger, pizza or chicken nuggets. This is crazy to me. I am from the generation raised to clean our plates and not be wasteful. The US produces unhealthy food and unhealthy habits (the portions, the additives, etc) so we grow up thinking this is normal. Meanwhile we get sick, are overweight, have medical issues that relate to food, but doctors keep prescribing more medications. It's very frustrating.

I think that Farmer's Markets have gotten very popular in the United States - at least where I live, but lots of Americans put quantity over quality. Another thing to take into account and that could maybe explain why some Americans buy more in bulk than French is that kids in American do not have canteens at school but have to bring their own lunch at school! Also the price is not the same in the us and in France, I am a French living in Canada and I can say healthy products here are much more expensive than healthy products in France, esp. veggies, fruits… food which is not processed!
@ChampagneandWaffles Жыл бұрын
American here - all of our public schools offer lunch for purchase (free or subsidized for low income families). Private schools and preschools may not offer lunch and require kids to bring their own though. The food served in schools is usually very low quality though, highly processed, everything is frozen or canned and just heated at the school. Most kids do not like the food and will only eat it if that is their only option.

This is excellent 😁💗 I am now just wondering what were some of your favourite meals growing up or what did you hate? I only ask and very intrigued as we also grew up like this but I honestly did not eat anything but bread that was on the table. I starved. A lot. I just would not eat anything and I was very under weight. There were no other food choices but my mum always put bread on the table. I had to see paediatrics and they tried all sorts. This was 40 years ago! I might have an orange (just squeezed juice into my mouth 🤣) or an apple. No skin! I now have children who are similarly fussy and I feed them whatever they will eat which is mainly processed. I just don't know how to get them to try anything new, they absolutely refuse...I actually now eat anything and everything, I live on veggies and love all foods. I love the whole French approach to food, it is the right way. I just hope my kids turn out like me and eat healthily as they get older! Sorry for the really long comment! Much love x ❤

It would be so great to have a cookbook with you and your moms favorite quick, easy and healthy meal ideas. My husband is Serbian and I am from Los Angeles, Ca. We moved to Serbia when the kids were babies and everything in life slowed down. I was able to breathe, walk and relax. I actually had time to cook (learning to cook, my mother never cooked) After coming back to the US a few years later I was equipped with cooking knowledge but now my time was an issue. The US is synonymous with fast paced grab and go. It’s our “culture” sadly. So I would love to have a great book of healthy “basics” that can be prepared in 30 minutes.
