All you get in the box is this procedure, thoroughly explained: unplug your modem and anything connected to it. With the router unplugged, open the app and “follow on.” Most videos feature a detailed “unboxing,” which I find very informative because I can never figure out how to open a damn box. BTW, I have been following along for the second day now, and nothing’s happening. Oh, well, at least I got the box open. Thank goodness for the comprehensive user manual. (Basically.)

Thank you for all the info. I have a router provided by my internet company to accommodate the speed that I wanted. I have a 2000 sq ft home and the internet reach did not reach my garage. I added a security system to cover my property but I kept getting signals that cameras were offline and that they couldn't get a wifi signal. I purchased a Eero Pro 6 to create a mesh network but I think that by just plugging it in and allowing it to set up it has created a separate wifi network that my devices are not using and so I still have poor reception. I am considering getting an eero extender but wonder how I can have both wifi's work together? I understand the eero products will cooperate but want to get the ISP router to play nicely with my eero system, I don't know if creating a bridge will cause a problem with the internet speed (1Tb) from my ISP. They said my netgear modem that I used previously wasn't able to manage the speed, not sure that was true. Any insights or suggestions that you could provide that might help would be much appreciated. The garage has a cinderblock construction that I believe is causing the problem. An extender could overcome the block but I'm not sure? Thank you in advance for any help.

I was just wondering, does the second router have to be connected to the main one via ethernet for full speeds and a good connection? I just don't want a massive cable running downstairs and over the house, I am with TalkTalk, recently upgraded my package and they sent two eero 6 routers. The main one will be downstairs connected to the future fibre box and the second ethernet port on it connected to my PC as I like a hardwired connection to PC, and I also need it for quest 2 airlink. There is another person upstairs with a PC that is concerned about the connection reaching, can we connect the second to their computer via ethernet and still have it used like that as an extender and our full speeds? Sorry I am still a little confused on thw whole thing
@landpet
@landpet 2 жыл бұрын
In the case of the eero 6 (not so much in the eero Pro 6) you will get a reduction in speed on the secondary router if they are connected wirelessly. If you run an Ethernet between both eeros then you will get full speeds at either node

Trying to increase distance, not range coverage (mesh area). Can you explain how to daisy chain a wired eero router (to extend distance FURTHER AWAY - not mesh) to 2 or more extenders with no ethernet wires. Is it possible to have the wired eero extend wifi to 1 extender and then that extender wifi's to another extender? look forward to your opinion on this and if you recommend a different system.

Thank you for detailed video! Two questions for you: 1) Would eero work with access points (AP) that comes with the house (not from Amazon (e.g., not eero extenders)? To give you more detail, those AP that comes with the house is connected to switch and I am planning on connecting eero to the switch. 2) If #1 works, would using 3 eero routers connected wirelessly yield faster speed than using AP that comes with the house? Thank you very much for your input!
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
No problem! Eero's are designed to only work with other Eero's. However some access points can still find the eero wifi signal and boost it but it doesn't always work or doesn't always work great. If you can connect all 3 Eero's to the switch and there is ethernet between all of them (option 3), that would give you great speeds

@landpet

It really depends. A general rule is about 30 to 40 feet for extender or router from each other however it really depends on how many walls you have. The app will tell you if it's too close or too far away.

For option #4, what kind of speed difference is there when using the access point wireless compared to wired like option #3?
@landpet

Huge drop for this model, about half the speed. It really depends on the mesh wifi. Tri Band routers typically do better than Dual Band. Quad Band also does very well. It really depends on the model, this one wasn't great.

Great video, very informative! I’m looking at doing something similar to option 4 but with eero #1 it will be connected to the modem and be the main router then eero # 2 and 3 will be in separate rooms and the separate Ethernet connection in the other rooms, if having all 3 eeros connected to the Ethernet connection separately will this still work?

I just moved into a new house. They have one utility room location where modem is installed and where cat6 cables run out. 1 runs to tv, 1 runs to ceiling box downstairs, and 1 runs to ceiling box upstairs. There are no additional lines that run back. I’m trying to determine the number of eero 6 units I need. If I run from the modem into a switch, will that allow me to use one access point downstairs to be the router and then one upstairs be extender? I didn’t know if before it goes to router switch, the conversion from modem to router has to have taken place. I would prefer buying two units instead of 3. Everything would be plugged into the same switch.
@landpet
@landpet 2 жыл бұрын
The number depends on how much coverage you want. The main thing is to connect the modem to an eero then to a switch, from that switch you can go to 1 or more eero's. To reiterate, you cannot connect a modem directly to a switch, it needs to be connected to a router (like the eero) first, after that you can just about connect anything you want in just about any order.

We have Fios for internet only. Though we currently have the ISP router, the installer stated their router can be replaced with an eero 6 or Pro router. Our home was pre-wired with ethernet ports throughout the house all leading back to the "Smart House" box in the back bedroom in the very back of the house. The installer suggested placing the eero router near the smart box connected to the ISP POE and through a switch connect to the panel in the box. We can then add eero throughout the 2 story house either just using wifi or as with the Pro by ethernet to have similar wifi speeds through out the house (our house traditionally has terrible wifi as it has many walls- some concrete block so have used ISP MOCA extenders conected to coax back to the box-connected to the router). There has been a "discussion" in our house that it should connect and work fine connecting the router base to any ethernet port. I have read multiple reviews that installers have complained that although technically the router base can be connected to ethernet anywhere in the house to be more central, they have had a terrible time with set up and speeds vs when the base is connected at the POE to the house. Have you found the same?
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
If I understood correctly, you would need to connect the router to the POE because that seems to be a direct connection to your modem. It's not that the eero needs POE because it has its own power but based on your description, that seems to be a direct connection to your modem. If your house was prewired with ethernet, that typically means all the connections lead to a switch then that switch goes to your modem/router combo. Connecting your eero anywhere in the house would indicate you're connecting to a switch after the switch has been connected directly to your modem/router combo. In that case, the eero wouldn't be able to assign DHCP (assign IP addresses to various devices), the switch needs to come after for the router to be able to assign those ip addresses. Summary: I wouldn't connect it anywhere, i would connect it directly to your modem which sounds like this POE port, if it's not then you would need to find the modem or the dedicated in wall Ethernet.

Thanks for the video, it was helpful but I do have one question. Can I connect a switch to my verizon router and then connect via wired haul to 3 eero routers to build a mesh wifi? My verizon router is in a location in my basement (mechanics room) with thick walls and not central for use. Thx and look forward to a response.
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
No problem! I don't believe the eero can be run in access point by default if there is not a main eero router. If you want to keep your verizon router running, then you need get a mesh wifi that can be run in access point like the Asus XD4 or the Netgear Orbi RBK752. You would need to go their options to change it to be run as an access point though cause that's not the case by default.

Have you tried restarting the mesh? Unfortunately, sometimes this can happen. If the problem itself is the software, you can contact eero, they may speed up the other update or possibly send you a replacement.

For option #3. I have a 3 story house, do you think that’ll give me better wifi coverage for my main floor, basement and top floor rather than the gateway router and 2 wireless devices I can have in each floor for wifi ?
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
I believe you will have faster and more consistent speeds with Option #3 vs a wireless option. Every place is different, if you have a lot of sq. ft coverage on each floor, than maybe consider the eero Pro 6 on each floor instead. Everything depends on the shape of your home and the amount of existing wireless interference. But ethernet always (or almost always) does better than a wirelessly connected mesh system.
@yanlu6389
@yanlu6389 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this great video! Just want to confirm I understand it correctly, if I place one eero router on each floor (total 3 floors) and connect them wirelessly, not through ethernet - the internet speed is pretty much cut to half, regardless of using 2 routers or 2 extenders, correct? If so, is there a way to get full speed for each floor? My guess is either getting extremely long cables to connect them though ethernet, or getting three pro 6? Did I miss any other solutions? Thank you!
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yup that’s pretty much it. Let me confirm a few things and mention some nuances. Correct assuming the eero router is on the second floor. Meaning the other two routers (acting as extenders) or the other extenders connect directly (wirelessly) to the router. If the router was on the first floor, the second floor extender would be cut by about half and the third floor extender would be cut even more because it needs to go through another extender wirelessly to reach the router. It doesn’t matter if the the secondary devices are router or extenders for wireless backhaul. If you run Ethernet, you will get full speeds on all 3 devices. If you’re sticking to wireless then I would check out the eero pro 6. All three devices should be eero pro 6 routers. Probably also worth a mention, the eero pro 6 is better than the TP Link Deco X60 and Deco X68 but just as a heads up, these are also good options. If I had to rank them based on performance: eero pro 6 > deco x68 > deco x60 > eero 6, I have videos on all of them. They all work the same way

Going with option 4. Just bought two eeros and going to set up tonight. I have the Verizon 5G Home Internet Plan and one major disadvantage is if you have a whole set up in another room (in my case, living room with PS5, Xbox, etc.) you'll need to get one of their extenders, which is extremely pricy. Optimum offers an extender for free in their internet plan but their connection was unstable. I prefer my PC hardwired to the router in the studio room, thus having to go this route.

Hopefully it works well, just as a heads up though, wireless backhaul with dual band mesh systems like this Eero 6 are not as fast on the secondary nodes (should be roughly half the speeds of the main Eero) as they are with tri band systems. I was just recently watching your very helpful videos even though they are a few years old. Your other video on the TP Link Deco 60 said to refer to this video for set up tips and I just ordered the Deco from Costco. We just built a new house and will be moving in about a month. I will be using Option 3. The builder put access points in closets on each of the 3 floors, (basement, 1st and 2nd floor). The modem and router(they are separate) are in the basement mechanical room and the first access point is in the basement bedroom closet and is about 20-30 ft away from the router so fairly close. The next access point is upstairs at the opposite side of the house. Since one of the Deco's will be used as a router, I will have 2 left to use, so does it matter where I put the other two in order to get a good signal? Since it is a wired connection, can I use the 2nd router on the 1st floor and the 3rd one the 2nd floor? I wasn't sure if I needed to put one closer in the basement bedroom in order to extend the signal or doesn't it matter because it is a wired access point? Sorry, not very techy, but I think the answer is it doesn't matter because it isn't wireless, but just want to be sure. I hope you answer questions on old videos. Thanks in advance
@landpet
@landpet 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! Since you're running wired backhaul, it doesn't matter where you place them so as long as the ethernet cable doesn't surpass 100 meters. Deco is a great mesh for the price.

Thank you for your awesome video. I have an at&t fiber combined modem/router. My house is also wired and we have four ethernet ports throughout the house which all 4 connect to the modem/router downstairs. My plan is to have all three eero routers hardwired via the ethernet ports but I assume this would cause three eero routers connected to the main att modem/router. Can I still do this with nothing conflicting or do I have to get a switch to interconnect eero #2 and #3 with main eero #1? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your answer.
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
No problem. So you need to put that att modem/router combo in bridge mode or disable the router portion of it unless you want 2 separate networks which I assume you don't. The way you're wired, you would need a switch so main eero 6 connects to modem. From the output port of this main eero 6, goes to a switch. From that switch it goes to the other two eero 6 routers. Technically you can get away with not getting a switch but I assume you're wiring is in place and is not going to move cause you can go from main eero 6 router to 2nd eero 6 router then from 2md eero 6 router to 3rd eero 6 router. But from what it sounds like the source where your modem resides is where all the ethernet go so in that case you do need a switch. If you want to save time, you can set the same SSID and password as your current router on the eero 6. That way all your devices will automatically connect to the eero mesh system. Assuming you disabled the router portion of the modem/router combo or out it in bridge mode. Hope this helps!

Not sure I understand the question. You could just use on eero 6+, if you hook up anything via ethernet to the eero 6+ (assuming the eero 6+ is hooked up to the modem), then you should get good speeds.

Wait... so. I just ordered wifi from a newer company in Canada and they gave me the option for a wifi extender for more money so I said why tf not. I received the parcel today and it came with the eero 6 and a modem / router with the brand name "Sercon" Does this mean that it will not work the way it should since the brands are different?
@landpet
@landpet 2 жыл бұрын
If this sercon is supposed to be your modem/router combo to be used with your ISP, then you should disable the router portion of it or put it in bridge mode. Then you can plug the eero into it and setup your WiFi. If this sercon is a wifi extender, not sure how great that will work with the eero. You will not see it in the eero app. It would have its own settings and I’ve played with a few extenders, some work fine others are just terrible. I recommend staying within the mesh system, like all eero devices in this case.

If I’m going to use a 3 router combo with a wired back haul, do both of the routers that are going to serve as access points have to be connected to the main router OR can one access point be connected the main router and the last access point connected to the first access point? Will the second option still work? If it does, will it affect my speed?
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
As long as there is a wired ethernet connection that makes it back to the main router, then it's considered wired backhaul and you should still get full speeds. So yes modem > router > first access point > second access point is considered wired backhaul and should have full speeds.

@landpet

That can be true and it might be the best way. Generally speaking, every modem/router combo is different but typically there is a sticker on it that provides the IP address or some other way of accessing the settings. Once you go to that specified IP address or some other browser link, you can search through the options to check for either "bridge mode" or "disable router", something along those lines.

Great videos. Any thoughts on best way to determine if i need to use more than one eero pro 6. I've speed test around the house with one eero pro 6 and it seems good getting over 400mbps, but through out the day some spots in the corners of the house drop to < ~10 mbps. Should I get another pro 6 or upgrade my modem? Also have you used your eero pro 6 as a zigee hub? A video about that would be amazing. Thanks
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you're getting full internet speeds of what your ISP provides when you're close to the eero Pro 6, then your modem is fine. So for example, if you're paying for the 400Mbps speeds, and when you're close to the eero Pro 6 and do a speed test (while other stuff isn't using your internet) and get that 400Mbps speeds then your modem is good. When you get to the corners of your house and it drops to 10Mbps, that means you pretty much need another eero Pro 6 because your Wi-Fi coverage isn't great. It should bring those speeds back up to normal speeds. No, I haven't used my eero Pro 6 as a Zigbee Hub because I typically get smart devices that don't require any hub but I may have a bulb sitting around that came with the echo 4th gen. I'll see if I can do a video on that but I do have a queue of videos coming up, so it would come after those. Hope this helps!

Ok, so one thing I should mention. For some reason, the eero 6 and only the eero 6 has had a bug in the eero app that it would show that it was connected wirelessly even though an Ethernet cable was used. The only way I knew it was using wired backhaul (option 3), is when I did an internet speed test on the secondary one and got the same speeds as I did with the main one. So I ask you to do this test, check the speeds from the secondary one and if they’re good then you are using wired backhaul even though it shows wireless. Again, from all the mesh systems I’ve used only the eero 6 has this bug. If this is not your problem, then restart all your eero 6’s and assuming your Ethernet cable works then it should go to wired backhaul

Thanks! Yes you can use a mesh to extend wifi and you can use the ethernet ports of this mesh to connect devices. Do keep in mind with mesh wifi's like the eero 6, while it is a solid mesh wifi, it is a dual band system. Long story short if you are going the wireless backhaul route (option 2 or 4) there will be slow downs when connecting to the secondary eero. If you want less slow downs or almost no slowdowns (depending on your internet speeds), then go with a triband system like the eero pro 6. Would appreciate your input on which setup would provide me with the strongest speeds. Our home is 2200 sq ft. Our router & coaxial hookup is located on the second floor. With our current old Netgear router, I'm receiving a Max of 50Mbps in my den on the 1st floor. However, the den is only about 100ft diagonally away from the upstairs room where it is located. The reason I am looking into a mesh system is that our bedroom is receiving the weakest signal.. ranging from 13Mbps to 23Mbps. (We have Spectrum which is the worst and inconsistent) Given our situation, is my assumption correct that my best set up would be two routers, the second acting as an extender? If there is another option that would be more effective would really appreciate your input.. Or am I wasting my time in an attempt to strengthen the signal? Thank you for your time with this.
