@antona.1327 3 жыл бұрын
@@melancholicwriter56 someone had to take the blame for Dent's crimes in order for Dent's Act to be legitimatized and have the staying power of keeping organized crime behind bars. If Dent's true nature was to be revealed, his work as the DA would be in a trash can. Pinning everything on the Joker wouldn't work because there are witnesses who saw where the Joker was at the time when those crimes were being committed, including his abduction by the SWATs at the end, which wouldn't make it logically possible to blame the death of Dent on him. So Batman and Gordon had to either tell the truth and let Gotham's mob reign free again, or come up with a solution.

As enjoyable as Batman Forever was, I had a huge issue with Two-face flipping the coin till he got tails. His entire character is that he has to disassociate his own decision to the coin whenever he encounters any conflict between his two personalities, which is actually why Two-face doesn't ALWAYS flip the coin. If both Harvey Dent and "Harv" (his violent alter ego from his origin episode in the Animated Series) agree on something, they just do it. That's why he flips for Batman when he knows he's Bruce, because Harvey is Bruce's friend and he doesn't want to kill him. The mental trick he's doing is that he's placing all responsiblity on the coin, not his actions.

you feel the movie where Jim Carrey grabs his crotch, to the camera, and it's accompanied on the soundtrack by a loud cartoon whistle / "bong!" sound effect didn't necessarily reflect the nuance of the Batman characters properly? because I'm not sure I agree. I dunno. maybe. like, what about the part where right before Carrey throws a green plastic bomb (also accompanied by, yes, a cartoon "whee" slide whistle sound effect) he does a sort of baseball pitcher wind-up and the music starts in on that old-timey baseball "bup-bup-bup-bup" batter-up music? wasn't that a pretty good representation of the _feel_ of the Dark Knight? still no??? oh, you're crazy. you're nuts. you're looking much too much into it, man. what did you _want?_ a good movie? with _Batman Forever_ I feel it's irredeemable, since the movie has the GALL to take itself seriously in parts. at least with _Batman & Robin_ it was virtually wall-to-wall batshit insanery. I'll take RIDICULOUS over RIDICULOUS *and* PRETENTIOUS, man.

From my experiences of both being male and raising three boys, a child with the powers of Superman is far more likely to go Brightburn than Superman. Really, The Boys gets this pretty correctly. A toddler with the ability to lift a car would kill their caregivers fairly often. Not because they are evil, but because little kids have zero impulse and body control. They throw fits over everything and everything is, pretty much, 100% effort all the time. They have not learned to control their strength. If you watch a group of boys play together, everything eventually leads them to do some version of hitting each other with sticks, playing king of the hill, or some sort of competitive activity. My boys would always have football blocking drills at random locations throughout the house and for no reason. Clark shows remarkable restraint even though he probably knows that he could do whatever the hell he wanted to whomever he wanted and nobody could stop him. Ever. He could be the local football star (or any other sport) without even trying.

6:10:49 Building on what Southpaw and MauLer were saying here. As Superman is on the floor gasping for breath and Batman points his Kryptonite gun (instead of the spear) at him, ready to take the final shot. Then Lois runs in, collapses onto Superman’s body hugging him to almost form a human shield. She looks up at Batman. She’s crying her eyes out and begging him not to fire. In this moment, Batman has a flashback to the night of his parents’ murder. We see Thomas Wayne shot dead on the ground. Martha Wayne is next to him, trying to shield his body. She looks up at Joe Chill and begs him not to fire. Close up of Joe Chill’s gun as it fires, and the gunshot echoing as it cuts back to Batman. He lowers his Kryptonite gun and has a moment of realization. He then turns around and chucks the gun across the room. End scene.

Saying a movie is bad because it follows a formula is like saying a cake is bad because you followed a recipe. There’s only so many ways you can combine things in pleasing ways so a movie should be judged on how well it performs steps not on what steps it performs. A cook who makes a cream brûlée badly isn’t automatically going to be better than a guy who makes a batch of brownies that are made competently. People who say Zack Sneider is better than the MCU because he doesn’t follow a formula are wrong for that exact reason.

He doesn’t show up to the meeting, a witness testifying against Superman is suddenly killed off, and so many other things he’s done and no one is tipped off. -Why does the media think Superman killed the people? -If Batman is willing to kill, why hasn’t he killed most of his rogues gallery? Joker killed Robin yet he’s still around, he’s perfectly okay with killing nameless henchmen though. -The Martha scene also doesn’t make sense as the film makes it seem that Batman is determined that he even killed many people to get the kryptonite and then doesn’t finish it because his mom has the same name. If the joker pulled the same shit, would Batman have a panic attack too? -How is Lois a better detective than Batman? She’s able to find out Clark’s whereabouts in MOS, but the world’s greatest detective can’t figure out that this alien has a human mother and family?

A Strawman is when you restate an argument into a weaker one and then destroy it. Reductio ad absurdum takes the correct argument but leads to absurd conclusions: Argument: "Female workers score more highly on "agreeableness", so they don't ask for raises as often as male counterparts." Strawman response: "So you're saying women aren't worth paying equally?" -Not what he said. Absurdum response: "Ok, but given the history of sexual assault a woman can't ask for a raise without worrying about being raped in her boss' office!" -Not a reasonable conclusion.

The way I learned it, reductio ad absurdum isn't inherently invalid. You can use it to illustrate when someone's argument actually does lead to an absurd conclusion. For example: Some creationists make the following argument: Everything that exists must be created by something The creator of a thing must be more complicated than the creation The universe exists and is highly complex Therefore, the universe must have been created by something highly complex, ie God. I could apply reductio ad absurdum to this argument by saying that, if everything complex must be created, and God is complex, then god must have been created, by Super-God, but Super-God is also complex, so it had to be created by Super-Super-God, and so on, forever. Basically if you follow the line of logic all the way through, you get a nonsensical conclusion.

Did younger Batman *not* realize that criminals keep popping up, despite putting others in jail/an asylum? How is Robin's death changing anything? Killing criminals ALSO doesn't mean no new criminals will come about, just like arresting them wouldn't. Bloodthirsty Batman isn't this deep concept that the defenders of BvS make it out to be... it's just the filmmaker indulging in violence for violence's sake, because it makes him some edgy rule-breaker.

This is like year one film student level analysis. By his logic, Family Guy must be the greatest piece of media ever created. I've always said Zack Snyder is way more of a cinematographer than a director. Putting him in complete control of a project is ill-advised at best. He seems to only look at his films on a superficial level: "Does it look cool? Great, my work here is done!" He wants to be David Lynch but he's just edgy Michael Bay.

A perfect example of a subtle “painting payoff” in media is Arkham City. The first shot in the game (at least the GOTY Edition, declared the definitive edition by Rocksteady) is a painting of Cain carrying Abel. The story behind these two brothers is of the first murder in the Bible, where Cain murdered Abel out of jealousy. This exact framework is used later in the game where the Joker dies and Batman carries him out, but at the end of the game Batman didn’t kill Joker. Batman tried his damnedest to save him, even after all that he had done (namely the murder of Bruce’s love interest, Talia), but it was Joker’s direct action (stabbing Bruce and causing him to drop the cure he needed) that led to his own death. It’s a subversion of the story of Cain and Abel, and it directly ties in to something relevant to the plot. It isn’t just “this moment looks like pretty painting.” Arkham City has plenty of problems with its plot, but this is one of the things it did brilliantly.

These humans you have adopted, I'm going to take them away one by one" , " If you care for these so much, you can mourn for them" Didn't made that up. You can look it up. And about superman not been able to take care of humans and not able take Zod somewhere else, this was Superman's first fight, so obviously he was not able process the obvious (which plays along with the theme of the movie that superman makes mistakes). Now about people evacuating themselves, well you are right, they will not disappear, they will run and that's what they did but it doesn't make much difference since the attack happened on an instant. Actually now I've seen the fight again and superman did tried to take him to space where they hit the satellite and everytime any building gets trashed it's mostly Zoe throwing supes around
@rajarshisantra8203
@rajarshisantra8203 3 жыл бұрын
@Vean Studio Zod never really changes his threat, he just states the obvious that if I kill superman, there's no one left on earth to stop me to do whatever I want. For big blockbuster movies and it's audience the "action speaks louder than words" is horseshit. Everything has to be spoonfed even for the most simpleton story. The understanding of the theme really comes down to personal preference. If I arrogantly tell you that Iron Man and hulk fight was just a big bulk of cgi with no actual substance, it would sting for you, assuming you really liked that scene. Theme for Snyder's superman was simple but unique, this god like creature is just like us, he sometimes misses the obvious, he gets depressed but still keeps on trying. Now whether you take in that, that's up to the viewer, nobody is going to necessarily tell you to f off for that.

Regarding the bland, monotone and mind-numbing combat in Man of Steel, Superman isn't a trained fighter. But Zod is. So have Zod dominate most of the fight using grapples and martial arts while Superman can do nothing but swing wildly and eventually become more and more creative in overcoming the much more skilled opponent. All while worrying about civilians. There's so much you could do with that even if Superman and Zod aren't necessarily getting hurt. Something Hulk vs Thanos in Infinity War for the start.
@SolarDragon007
@SolarDragon007 3 жыл бұрын
You could also have it be a battle of Superman's greater raw power vs Zod's greater training, experience and having allies. If they were consistent with how the powers develop over time, Superman could outclass Zod and co. in terms of strength, but he'd fight like a blunt instrument compared to the Kryptonians who compensate for the strength discrepancy with strategy/technique.

I wrote my master's thesis on Paradise Lost, so I wanted to offer my two cents. First, the steelman: Lex Luthor’s “motivation” in BVS is comparable to Lucifer’s in Paradise Lost. The stated goal of the poem is to “justify the ways of God to men”. In other words, Milton claimed to be solving the age-old Problem of Evil: if God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving, how can suffering exist in the world? This is essentially Luthor’s challenge to Superman-I have suffered in my life; therefore, if there is a God, he is either less than all-powerful or less than all-loving, and I will prove it by showing the world that Superman is just as flawed as any of us. Lucifer has a similar goal-he doubts God’s omnipotence and challenges him in open warfare, which God wins decisively, casting Lucifer and the other fallen angels down to hell. Having escaped hell, Lucifer decides that if he cannot defeat God in open war, he will subvert him by corrupting his creation. He has heard rumors of a new world called Earth, where God’s new creation, man, dwells. Lucifer infiltrates Eden (which is on Earth in the Miltonic universe) and tempts Eve by telling her that the fruit of the forbidden tree will transform her into a God in her own right. He tells her that she has nothing to fear since God ‘cannot hurt ye and be just. | Not just, not God; not feared then, nor obeyed.’ By successfully persuading Eve, and by proxy Adam, to disobey God, Lucifer seems to prove his point. God speaks as though his hands are tied, as though he has no choice but to exile man from Eden, for ‘The law I gave to Nature him forbids.’ Adam and Eve are indeed exiled, but not before it is explained to Adam that God’s Son will descend to redeem mankind by self-sacrifice, at which point he will regain lost paradise (see the lesser-known sequel poem, Paradise Regained). There are literal centuries’ worth of academic debate about the presentation of God in Paradise Lost, with an entire school of thought that essentially argues #LuciferDidNothingWrong, i.e., that Milton-intentionally or not-actually made a brilliant case against the goodness of God. If Luthor’s plan had succeeded, he would have proven the same point as Lucifer: that given the right motivation, God would abandon mankind, thereby proving that he was not all-loving, or not all-powerful. In the end, Martha Kent survives and Doomsday is stopped because Superman selflessly sacrifices himself, much as the Son promises to do in Paradise Lost (Superman as a Christ allegory is of course nothing new). With all this said, I can see why Snyder, and especially tismy video essayists, would see BVS Luthor as a similar character to Milton’s Lucifer. HOWEVER, the idea that Luthor is a “perfect mirror” of Milton’s Lucifer is utterly absurd. Lucifer wasn’t a whiny little bitch, first and foremost. He was a devastatingly intelligent archangel, implied to be the third most powerful being in the universe, after God the Father and God the Son (who seem to be separate entities). Lucifer doubted God’s justice because God arbitrarily decided to elevate one of the angels (the Son) above all others and expected Lucifer to bend the knee. No reason is given for God’s decision, and it’s extremely difficult not to sympathize with Lucifer. Lucifer’s dad was God, and yet he was still treated unjustly. He decided to rebel, and this decision cost him everything. Though unable to die, he was severely wounded and scarred in battle, he was cast out of heaven, and God made a new race, mankind, to be his new favorites. Having established that he could not best God in combat, Lucifer decided to subvert him by corrupting this new race. In doing so, he seems to have wanted to prove that he was not alone, that God’s new children would turn against him just as Lucifer had, and that God would turn on them in turn. Lucifer has many descendants in modern cinema: Salieri from Amadeus (and Alan in Equus, also by Peter Shaffer), Mewtwo in the first Pokemon movie (the parallels are not subtle), and Ultron spring to mind. The original Frankenstein’s monster was heavily and explicitly inspired by Lucifer, and this has bled into many adaptations of the story. Almost any story about a creature rebelling against its creator has some Miltonic influence. But if there’s one DC character who resembles Lucifer, it’s 110% the Joker. It would be pretty reasonable to describe Lucifer’s quest in Paradise Lost as an attempt to prove that anyone could fall as hard as he did as the result of one bad day. Lucifer is a trickster; he uses deceit and disguise to carry out his plans, and after he is cast out of heaven, those plans become purely psychological. He never seeks to hurt mankind physically; he goes to tempt them, to experiment with their obedience to God and see whether their rules could be broken. The victories he seeks are purely symbolic; they’re about sending a message. Now, compare all that subtlety, all that psychological complexity-God’s second favorite son unable to understand why he was found wanting, rebelling against his creator to immense personal cost, and able to contend with his omnipotent enemy only through a proxy war of wills-to Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, a sniveling child with a comically contrived plan to get superheroes to punch each other in a desperate attempt to contend with his daddy issues. Yes, Luthor has every right to be mad at his dad for abusing him, but his suffering is far from unique, as terrible as that fact is. Again, Lucifer’s dad was God; the creator of the entire universe looked at him and found him wanting, and all his immortal life, he never learns why. To call Luthor a perfect mirror of Lucifer is, as Rags said, a huge indictment of Milton. Fortunately, it’s also bullshit. Fringy, definitely do pick up a copy of Paradise Lost; it’s the greatest poem in the English language, and while it’s long (even by EFAP standards) and often difficult to get your head around, I’ve read it three times, and I was never bored.

As someone who used to go on there a lot, that is 100% true. It's a massive ego stroker of an app, if one is even mildly attractive There are fandom "pockets", which aren't as bad, if one doesn't dive too deep. Comedy content is... uh... You can guess

After the Martha line Batman should have said out loud "I thought I was the Batman, but maybe I'm the Bad man..."

Batman doesn't kill HUMANS specifically. But he's killed plenty of parademons and other goon aliens.

4:30:33 have him try and headbutt Clark, he knocks himself out, Clark picks him up and puts him back on the seat and have Clark turn to the bar man and slip him money. “That’s for the ice for his face when he wakes up” he smiles and leaves the bar. I’m sure some could make that non-clunky

It’s fun to see people defend Batman’s “reason” to kill ppl, because it’s “realistic” even though realistically Batman wouldn’t kill, and if we’re being realistic then Superman straight up fucked that guy at the beginning where he sends him through several walls, and others talk about how he’s been let down and shit even though that’s just lazy writing, good shit guys 👍

Realisticly, batman would kill, especially after the controversies of Cops being badly represented all the time.

Fringy nailed it, it's a BASIC cinematic technique used to frame a scene and convey character power and stance. If you're paying a cinematographer or a director, then simple framing shots, like the ones this guy is really trying to elevate here, should be a given. They're nothing special, and a hundred other movies do them every year. Also, the inclusion of symbols and themes are only credible when well executed, not when just being present. This is all film 101, hell not even that! 101 implies college level, this is basic, high school film class that you get for free.

Guys, guys I figured it out! Lex's blood gave Zod's corpse the autism and Doomsday is what autism does to Kryptonians. That's why they breed artificially and why Zod was so outraged at Clark's natural birth, he was angry at Jor-El for risking the creation of a monster. Y'know, it says something when my ret*rded joke makes more sense than what they do in MoS.

So would that mean that they hunt the autism like predator?
