This video, soft arms and smooth rotation proved to be an eye opener for me. I was playing a mediocre round and remembered this video from the night before. I didn't want to try it without going to the range first but I told myself to trust and believe it. My first drive using this video I smashed. My playing partner in disbelief said it didn't look like I swung hard at all. The next par 3 I pured a 6 iron and stuck it on the fly by the pin. This appears to work for my whole bag. Being a senior golfer I am not used to hitting drives 260 yards! Thanks Clay. I have watched a lot of videos but this one just clicked. I am excited to play again, not having to "swing hard" to get distance will let be play for many more years.

Really enjoyed this instructional video. A lot of the things you showed that people do wrong are what I do. I know I'm pretty much all arms. That most likely comes from a "Gym Mentality" where I think I can just muscle the ball for distance. I can't. I have actually been trying to get a "whip like" swing. I'm glad you showed the club grip. Looking forward to trying this. Thanks.

Clay always makes it easy to follow and apply. The way the Rory’s, JT’s and Rahm’s of the tour swing, don’t apply to the average golfer looking for distance. At 53, this video works so well for me. Really good to see you focus equally on flexibility and agility or fitness aspects. As a senior in my mid 60s but also as someone now trying to advise other seniors based on my own recent years experience and experimentation to improve my game and enjoy it even more but also sustain it hopefully for another thirty years! I am looking at simple aspects - exercises, tips, drills for seniors. It strikes me that a number of these would be very relevant to aspects you are suggesting but also perhaps some other specific senior tips might be great too - such as slight pulling back of back leg to allow one to swing (and turn) arms, hips and shoulders more easily. Would welcome your thoughts and reactions and I hope to suggest and recommend your site specifically for specific aspects of the swing.

However you look at it, driving a golf ball 300 yards requires many conditions to be satisfied .... - favourable air pressure and temperature - a golf swing that efficiently converts body mass into energy - a reasonable initial golfer mass! - optimum impact conditions - optimum launch conditions - adequate club technology - a decent golf ball - no headwind! - decent ground conditions There are others, but to imply anyone can do it on planet earth without a strong following wind is a little naughty. Come do it in a cold damp climate with sodden ground :-) .

How can I keep my hands loose throughout the entire swing? Gripping the club in my fingers and little waggle loosens my hands for the takeaway, but then they sometimes tense up as I start the downswing.
@gatesmw505 жыл бұрын
Paul Chamberlin Grip pressure varies somewhat from person to person. What I was taught at a golf school was this: squeeze a toothpaste tube as tight as you can WITHOUT making the toothpaste come out of the tube. Applicable only for full iron shots or drives. Just maintain THAT pressure throughout the swing.

Hi Paul, you'll need to put more force into the handle as the speed of your swing increases. At address you can have very light pressure but you have to use more at impact. Try to have it mostly in the first few fingers of your lead hand. Play well! Quentin | TSG instructor
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for sharing but that's not really accurate to what is going on in the swing. If you hold the club like a tube of toothpaste going into impact then you wouldn't be able to hold on to the club. It would fly out of your hand. You have to put force into the handle to hold onto it. In general, you want to hold the club as loosely as you can and be able to control it. The tooth paste thing works at address and beginning of back swing but not really anywhere else other then the finish. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Love your vids clay! I swear it looks like you have a dip in or a few sunflower seeds in your mouth though lol.

Thanks! Clay doesn't use chewing tobacco. He wouldn't eat sunflower seeds in a video. I don't even know if he ever does :-) Thanks for watching! Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Effortless power is a nonsense term in sports instruction (no matter the sport): Power = Work/time = force x velocity; all of which are measurable quantities. Less wasted effort is the intelligent way to describe this, but finding intelligence in most instructors is like finding the proverbial needle in the hay-stack. Good luck with that.
