We look at what happens when you try and make an existing set of golf irons into a single length (1 length) setup. What problems do you run into and how can you fix them.

When I was younger I played a set of irons I built that the 4,5,6 were 5i length, the 7,8,9 were 8i length and the pw, gw, sw, were gw length. X100 shafts, taper tip 5, 8, gw. The lies were adjusted and gapped for yardage. Worked well.

The Cobra one length have different length hozels in the shorter clubs. They also have different weight shafts and the grooves also are different to promote more or less spin and hence affect distance.

@@colesummerhaysdrums5457 from what I've read, avoda made their wedges head extremely light to accommodate the problems covered in the video, prompting the player to swing harder for more spin, instead of the traditional weighting approach, have you tried out the set to confirm/deny this claim? Thank you

@@herculesperseus6326 all the heads are roughly the same weight from 4 - LW, unlike a normal set where the wedges are heaviest and get lighter as the club gets longer. you will swing the wedges faster but that's not necessarily the intent, it's just cuz the shafts are much longer. generally for most people spin will be the same unless you're swinging full in which case it'd spin more due to the increased speed.

This is why some people have had success with Edel SMS and SMS Pro one length conversions, controlling that total head weight! My swing speed prohibits use of anything above 6 iron at single length (around 76-80 mph 7 iron and 95 Driver), but I do think 5-7 or 8 iron at 6 iron length and 8 or 9 to SW at 8 or 9 may be a nice combo. I currently bag Cobra 2022 Forged Tec One 6-A and Snakebite One SW and LW at stock 37.25". My 6 iron is by far my most inconsistent club but my wedge game has never been better and would also say 9 and 8 confidence are also higher. To each their own!

fantastic video.. the world of single length can be so confusing. i think EDEL did it best up until now with the SLS and the Single length specific graphite Padersen shaft. While every club was the same length the property anf profile and kick point of the shafts would vary to assist with appropriate launch. i built a set od Stirling (wishon ) singles and i built them with Accra ICWT shafts in them i tipped them differently for long and then the Short irons, they have been Great. IMO better than anything COBRA has delivered in the 1 length world. CHEERS

I have a set of Mazel single length irons, 4-sw. They are a reasonably priced brand and are very forgiving. The lower lofted irons 4-6 or chunkier, probably to add weight, than 7-9 and all of them are about 400g with a 63° lie. What I noticed most playing them is, having one setup is great but I lost some distance on the 6-4 irons. Also the wedges just feels a bit odd at 7i length, so I took those out and play my regular length pw-58° in the set.

Shaft changing, head weighting loads of ways to change a regular set into a single length set weighted at D2/D3 if indeed you like it at those weights. Some people like to have the head slightly heavier so that they can feel it. Biomatching, counter weighting loads of ways to do it. Like the way he’s explained how the differences occur though.

I play a sim2 driver with a 49g air speeder stiff shaft at 45.75 inchs, a titleist ts2 3 wood with a ventus 5 R shaft at 43 inches. The 5 wood would come out at 42 inches. The shafts I have are the following. An air speeder 49g stiff, an air speeder 45g reg and a fubuki mv series 45g reg. Which in your opinion would be the best to use and where would I cut? Some from tip and butt or just butt? I really like the feel of how the 3 wood plays with the ventus in it. Your help would be most appreciated should you want to give it. Best Regards Shaun.

It's a microcosm of life. In bicycling everyone wants a lighter wheel for climbing. However they lose the angular momentum which keeps the bike going straight (crash) and when the power to pedal changes the bike slows immediately (crash from guy behind you clipping your wheel) and in a sharp turn when your pedal might hit the ground you slow way down. A heavier wheel like in 1990 allowed guys to ride no hands, finish seasons, not wear crash hats. Anything you change results in often unforeseen effects. This is why I play a 38-degree 7 iron because my gaps are 12 yds not 17 and I can easily hit my 29 deg 4i

As others have pointed out, many of the single length sets do use a few different shafts within the set. If you struggle with the long irons, you might want a slightly softer feeling shaft in those longer clubs while keeping a more stable shaft in the short irons. This will really be a personal choice based on how you swing these clubs though.
