Your site is a must. Really makes me think about how to make adjustments to stop slicing and pushing. Mick

Excellent demo my friend! My dad showed me the same trick (opposite direction) many years ago to fix my hook. It worked! With the face slightly open on my long irons and woods, my problem was mostly solved.

Exactly what I had in mind re. changing grips in my driver and fairway wood! Confirmed and validated, thanks a lot.

Key takeaway is not all clubs need the same adjustment, good explanation on what causes the slice/fade and how it moves through the clubs from the shorter clubs to the longer clubs

Ordered the curved blades for the utility knife on regripping. You and a 2nd person on here used them so there must be something to them.

Good video. I think Adam Young in his book The Practice Manual said that the clubface is responsible for 80% of the direction the ball will travel on. I also think Bernard Langer has his grips intentionally installed with the logo slightly to the right which forces him to close the face slightly when he grips it and gets the logo back to center. Pretty clever.

I found your channel yesterday and have been binge watching your videos, love your content, you gained a subscriber! Is there an easy way to adjust the grip of a club if you find you need to open or close it? Or do you have to use acetone every time to loosen it, remove and retape it? Then do it again if that’s not quite what ya want? Maybe you have a video already that covers this but I have not found it yet I don’t think if you do.

A point of observation. You mentioned face to path as being why most of us produce errant shots. Yet on virtually all of the example shots with the irons, the foresight data did not include the face to target data point. I know that in order to do that, you need 4 reflector dots on the club. In this case, due to the importance you mentioned, it should have been provided. It could have been mentioned, too, that moving the ball further up in the stance will promote an in to out contact simply because of where the ball is on the club path arc.
@EFGMC8 ай бұрын
Club path will usually be less in to out the further you move the ball forward because you are moving past the neutral point in the arc.
@glennwiebe51288 ай бұрын
@@EFGMC you're right. I botched that. Moving the ball forward promotes a fade.

Great video. One suggestion. If your driver and/or your fairway clubs use the adjustable hosel, be sure to get that adjustment configured first then set your grips. If you change the hosel adjustment you will need to redo your grips. Thanks.

Thank you for the tech side of things. I have really gained the most from your club set up videos recently. Learning Mr. Nicholas used grip weight has really opened my eyes to what a balanced stick is and how that is different for every player. How much does grip tape affect swing weight balance?
@EFGMC8 ай бұрын
The tape will vary in weight based on thickness but in general it's very light and would require at least 4 layers to really make a noticeable difference to the balance.

Also the size of the grip will affect the shot shape. Fatter for more fade and thinner for more draw

Potentially will also change swingweight, which can also change your ball flight. Can't consider one factor in isolation as I see it

I do this with the putter.....my putting swing slightly pushes the ball left so I made the grip very slightly open......result has been making more 3 and 4 foot putts without worrying about the stroke.

Thank you for seeing my message a weeks ago. That is exactly what I was thinking about. Would pulls be the opposite grip direction?
@EFGMC8 ай бұрын
A pull is the same swing path as the slice but with a closed face.

Bernard Langer did that when he struggled with a slice.

Thanks. I have done this manually for years but it would be easier and more consistent to have the offending clubs re-gripped. How does the re-gripper know where to set the grip alignment to get the right set up?
@thecavitybackgolfer8 ай бұрын
I do my own grips and I set my grips open a few degrees to the leading edge as I fight a hook. It helps but also weakening lofts to get rid of offset helps as well.

My apologies if this is off topic, but I've been reading and seeing talk about reverse taper putting grips, and how they help keep the face square (that would be an awesome video topic). My question is would it have the same effect for your other clubs? Perhaps an oversized grip flipped upside down?
@EFGMC8 ай бұрын
They used to make them 20 years ago. Not sure if they are still being produced.
@jamesbigga88438 ай бұрын
I did this to two of my wedges. My wedges go left, so I installed the grips so the club face sits open visually, but it’s actually square.

Whenever I close my irons to reduce the fade I hit the ball fat. Seems like doing that severely reduces the bounce on the irons.
@michaelayler59648 ай бұрын
This question deals with a previous video on re-gripping clubs. One air compression con you indicated was, top of grip was prone to move. Question????? What if you use two-sided tape, 1 inch on butt end, maybe two. Would that be enough to hold the butt end and not twist? Also, you could still use the compressor to remove and reuse old grip, when necessary.....your thoughts Just My Random Thoughts.......

Some other people mentioned doing exactly that so sounds like it works. Have not tried it myself.

I use midsize grips (Dritac 2.0) on my irons. I’m in between standard and midsize grips. I put on a standard Dritac 2.0 grip on my driver and seems like I swing it through better. Is the butt thickness in driver bigger and therefore maybe a standard grip feels right ?
@EFGMC8 ай бұрын
Depends on the shaft. Butt diameter can be .600-.620 or more.
@roadtoscratchgolf34818 ай бұрын
Nice idea, but be careful not to close the face too much, especially with your driver, as the ball will always fly short and you'll have no distance. I tried this and went from carrying 255 down to 220. I had to learn to close the face just a smidge for this trick to work well for me. Your mileage may differ. Cheers.

I start with my short Irons neutral ( both thumbs point to the shoulder) Mid irons slightly stronger, starting in a compressed position and slightly closed. Long irons strong grip compressed, ( exact same for my Hybrid and fairway wood. Tee shots are slightly different. Great to now know my theory wasn't just madness..

Isn't there some dumb rule of golf that makes different alignment of grips illegal? I honestly don't know but based on other rules I have seen, I would think they would do something like that.
@ottawapop8 ай бұрын
I don’t really understand the point of this. Use the club face to align to whatever you want. I never look at the grip.

It's all about getting a consistent setup every time which for many people will be difficult without some help from somewhere, like the grip markings or rib.
@atamagashockАй бұрын
Sure or you can just fix the actual problem and fix your swing path. This isn’t for everyone, but it’s a way to help people that really struggle with driver and a more consistent way to set up every single time

HUGE miss here is ball position. The reason why its magnified as you progress to the longer clubs is because you play the ball further forward in your stance.

Such a poor explanation at the beginning!!! Don't confuse your viewers and students, FFS. It's CLOSED to the TARGET, on your screen!!!!! Which means, that the face is CLOSED to the TARGET, as in, it is pointed LEFT of TARGET (for the Right handed players), in order for the ball to START LEFT of TARGET in order for it to SLICE BACK to the target which is how you fade the ball. YOU MUST MAKE THAT DISTINCTION. Therefore, the face is OPEN to the PATH, which is how you started, and the correct thing, so don't say "even though the face is closed......." because it HAS to be CLOSED TO THE PATH for the ball to start left of target to slice back to the target. Therefore, in simple terms, the CONVERSE is true for the DRAW. I HATE it when people don't explain this properly.
