Who cares they changed the 4473 in October of 2020 they know everything you have already They probably see the the writing on the wall that suppressors and SBRs will soon be off the NFA and are probably just trying to get as much tax revenue before that happens

Why not recommend that when they approve one, if there are more filed and awaiting approval, how about suggesting after the background check they approve ALL pending submissions? That would speed up things for us, and quickly lower their backlog too because it's stupid that there be 3 stamps submitted and get approved for one quickly, while the other two languish for months.

ATF is improving its bundling process to do just that!
@americansuppressor7 ай бұрын
Yup, that’s something we’ve been pushing for quite some time. ATF has improved their bundling tremendously in recent months. Our ultimate goal is to also allow people to put multiple NFA items on the same Form 4, effectively allowing consumers to bundle the applications themselves at point of sale.

Living in Colorado we have a 3day wait period for firearms. Bought, submitted, approved, and had my suppressor in hand BEFORE the 3 day waiting period for the gun expired. 24 hours for suppressor. Including transit time to my FFL and 3 day wait, I am still waiting for the host. Never thought ATF would be quicker. My FFL has an employee dedicated to NFA items and said they are using AI to expedite. Not sure how I feel about AI in this realm yet.

Hang in there. It’s likely that your application was one of the 30% or so that hit a delay in the NICS check. One of the best things to do if you get delayed is include your SSN on future applications. It can help tremendously with misidentification delays - one of the most common reasons for background check delays.

My tin foil hat tells me the atf is boosting revenue after getting its ass handed to it in all the losing court cases. I worry they'll lure in thousands of new suppressor owners, then try and pass some sort of annual registration fee.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by the American Suppressor Association (ASA) and the "product" of their late 2023 roundtable discussions with the ATF. Yes, it has reduced waiting times for suppressors purchased by an individual person but has not quickened approvals for trusts and other forms of ownership. A well-built suppressor constructed of quality alloys is a long-lived asset and given the time and expense of the suppressor purchase, it may make more sense for the purchase to be made by a trust so that the suppressors can be readily shared by multiple parties and that the sharing can continue after the ultimate demise of any of the benefactors. Why has the acceleration of individual person approvals not carried over to NFA trust approvals? Although I had suppressors approved in mid-March, my early-April submissions still remain in "suppressor jail". Additionally, where is the ASA with respect to developing testing standards for comparing suppressors based on both subsonic and supersonic decibel reduction as well as measuring the visible signature of the suppressor? As a suppressor consumer, this would be useful information that would facilitate the purchasing decision.
