I went here in 1982 when I was 14 ,the haunted house literally left me speechless ,especially the ghosts appearing and being able to see through them ,I've watched a recent POV and it seems the same b.t.w the music is called the danse macabre a classic classical music

I think that you, as an outsider, exactly describe the Efteling as what it meant. A lot of respect for this and also for this beautiful park which stands for me as Dutchman above Disney. It's not the park with the most intense attractions but the park with the most experience

Hello there, I grew up 1 hour drive from the Efteling. When I was really young my mother got a subscription, and we would go on a Wednesday afternoon (after school) to the park, and I was enjoying the fairytale forest for hours and riding these pedaling trains on and off. Also I would play for hours at the playgrounds and I was scared as hell in Droomvlucht and my mum would had to hold me close. The park also had (public) swimming pools back than (where DVH is now) and my mum would bring swim clothes to the park (along with sandwiches brought from home). It is really special to see you guys vloging about the Efteling. The park has changed immensely since I was a little boy. But the park has been able to stay very close to its core. When you guys reflect on the Efteling and one of you mentions that it is a really strange park and that it doesnt have particular themed areas; you are right; the park is really strange, no other park in the world is like de Efteling and the theme of the park basically is the "Efteling" theme. That is what makes the park really special I believe and it is really amazing to see people and park enthusiasts form abroad exploring what de Efteling is and what "Efteling"is about. Many of the attractions are really old, like 'Spookslot' (1978) and 'Fata Morgana' (1986), both of them are pretty much in the same state as how they were introduced, so imagine how forward thinking, revolutionary and thematically grandiose they were for that time.

Wow! The european mega trip really was mega!! I have just finished watching the vlogs with my 9 year old (Alton Towers obsessed) daughter, who is now begging me to take her to Efteling asap. Being as I am desperate to get to Phantasialand for Taron, she might get her way if I can persuade the rest of the family. We have a few days to Alton Towers planned for August so it'll have to be later in the year. I'm so glad that you all had a great time. Joe, Martin and yourself were a pleasure to watch. Thank you all so much for all of your hard work with the vlogs, it is much appreciated.

Pinocchio wasn't an update in 2016 but a new addition. They still put in new fairytales in Sprookjesbos. The sleeping beauty castle, langnek and dwarfs are the oldies. One thing Efteling does well is keeping the attractions well maintained and taking a lot of care and love in it. Disneyland Paris can take example of that.

These vlogs have made me so excited about going to visit the Efteling next July. I can't wait until I get to try out the Baron 1898 and the new darkride Symbolica. I hope you get to try the new ride next time you visit ^^ The Efteling never fails to surprise or entertain me and they do a really good job at being entertaining for people from all ages all around the globe. About the different themed areas, the differences between the areas are ever so slight. They build a lot on the typical old-Dutch feeling in a way, mixed in with the magical fairytale theme. However, the main differences per part of the park lay mainly in the different types of rides, the scenes of nature and plants (which this park is really big on and which they maintain and engage where they can) and of course in the rest of the surroundings. Also, it was fun to see you guys enjoy this trip so much ^^ Thank you for sharing your trip and wishing you guys the best for all of your trips yet to come.

On your discussion about the technology on spookslot. Martin said that they could do that at time. Well, they couldn't but the Efteling build and designed a lot of new technology. Lex lemmens, the technical chief of the Efteling, is one of the most creative of handy man in all the themeparks. The Efteling still creates a lot of new stuff. For example they created a machine that oils the wooden coaster every day. Many parks are so jealous. Even Europapark (I think Europapark is overrated). By the way you need to get a look at the winter efteling.

If you go in there be sure to visit the little castles you see on the inside. You probably know this but, edition 2 what i said months ago. Spookslot is weird when you don't know the story. The song is called dance macabre by saint- saens. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danse_macabre_(Saint-Sa%C3%ABns) It is like a poem. They made the attraction around the song. And no this ride is as it was so many years ago. Next time when you come and you wanna visit this attraction again let your mates open the door when you just enter this attraction (in front of you there is a door when you enter it. Film that, its fun.

The Spookslot actually uses puppets that you can't see because they face your back with a lamp and mirror behind them to create ghostly projections. They didn't have projectors back then. Not sure if its been updated, the audio quality (not the theme itself) has. Most visitors love it for nostalgia not for the show itself because parents remember htat ride from when they were kids visiting. The nostalgic and classic feeling might even be why they don't update it meechanic wise.

I`ve been to Efteling with my wife at June,11th. Wasn´t this your second day to the Efteling? Although it was very busy and the weather wasn´t very good we had a great time in that wonderful Park. It was my second visit and the first time to ride Baron 1898. It is fantastic! For me it is at number four of the Parks I visited in Europe. Number One for me is Europa Park, Number two is Disneyland Paris, Number three is Phantasialand followed by the Efteling. I personally rate this Park higher than Port Aventura. Port Aventura is very good, too. But Efteling has this very special unique fellgood feeling. So, keep up the good work. I saw all the vlogs and I enjoyed them very very much. I´m looking forward to see your reviews to Klugheim at Phantasialand. With this, Phantasialand is a really World Class Park, isn´t it?

@Theme Park Worldwide I think Slagharen (in holland) and Kernwasser Wunderland Kalkar (in germany) are great places to try out Slagharen is a very laid back, mostly western/cowboy styled theme park with some cool old school rides and fun accomodations. I don't think it's very busy usually. Kernwasser Wunderland was a theme park built in (what was supposed to be) a nuclear power plant! In the late 70's/early 80's, construction was started on a highly controversial "fast breeder reactor", which was heavily protested until deemed no longer feasible when the costs rose to about 7-8 billion euros. a Dutch self-made entrepeneur bought the derelict powerplant for 2.5 million euro's, immediately sold the nuclear infrastructure for a huge profit and decided to erect a theme park on the site. Don't worry, no nuclear material was ever present at the site. But their seasoned fries are amazing, and they have free soft serve ice cream machines dotted across the park. And some pretty awesome rides, including an echochamber in that big reactor chimney thing. It shouldn't cost much.

Hi, Spookslot (Haunted Castle) isn't actually a ride, it's a show. It does tell a story (not Saint Saëns' one from his music) but I can understand it's not clear to you guys. It's being told in the pre-show (the round chamber) in Dutch. You might have missed it. After the fairytale forest was 'completed' it was the first 'ride' they built to expand the park.

Let me know whenever you need a guide in the future. I used to work there as an actor/entertainer. Great job on the vlogs

I am born in 1975 and as long as i know Spookslot "haunted house" did not change. Maybe some "dolls" have been updated but that was a big deal at the time. A lil History about the Vrouw Holle house. That was a house where people lived in. It started out as a log cabin for scouts with different walls and roof. The house was build in 1945 and family Klijn lived there with in total of 6 people.( there even been a child born in it) In 1948 they had to leave because of the park. Anton Pieck made it look different (like it is as you saw it). When i was a child that house was a souvenirs shop. You can find this story online..

Great vlogs, guys! I really enjoyed watching these. I've been to all of these parks and as a Walibi Holland regular I must say I totally agree with you on El Condor. That's a crappy rollercoaster. Just to get one thing straight: in the vlog you mention that The Efteling is bigger than Europapark. It isn't. The Efteling has 177 acres of land covered with the themepark, Europapark 230 acres.

The whole resort of Europa park is 230 acres. That includes the theme park and the hotels. The Efteling theme park is 177 acres, but Efteling owns 395 acres of land including the theme park, Efteling hotel, Bosrijk, Efteling golfcourse and the nature reserve south of the park. So Efteling definitely owns more land Europa, however I couldn't find how big the theme park area of Europa is, so the park itself might just be bigger than Efteling.
