Wow! You are very enthused about what you are doing. Solar is relatively new to the average older consumer. You covered the EG4 inverter in good detail without floundering or glitching. And with your research and testing you came to the conclusion this would be the best inverter to recommend. I like your upbeat manner and amount of good information presented. I was told that solar would not work on my property due to so many trees on and surrounding my property. I am motivated to research this product further. Thanks. You are a great motivational speaker.

Mine broke after 3 weeks (internal comms fault) took a week for SS to speak with me for their tier 2 tech support to agree with me that it was broken. I didn't have the carboard box anymore so I had to buy another 6000xp and they're gonna refund me once they receive the broken one. The warranty is solid but if you're actually off-grid don't be surprised when it fails and takes two weeks to get a replacement. And keep the giant box it comes in!

They can figure parallel mode for split phase and configured everything for my batteries. The only thing I had to do for the batteries was a firmware update and they walked me through it. How about a review on the various BMS's out there. A lot of those seem to have issues. Half of them might be perfectly fine when plugged into another manufacturers AIO.

@@kpbarbee Mine is basically off grid. The only thing I had an electrician do was hook up an interlock switch. That way I don’t need a sub panel and the grounding takes place at the main panel. No need for permits, since I’m not back feeding to the grid. Most people are too lazy just to manually go over and switch it when it needs to be put back on the grid. I usually have to do this in the winter time when the sun is extremely low. So you have grid tide, hybrid, and off grid. Mine is closer to hybrid style off grid. Don’t ever get a grid tide system without a disconnect and batteries. If the grid goes down, you go down with it.

I just got mine working as a UPS, and I use it to shave peak usage on my HVAC, and other 24/7 circuits. I built a DIY pack after it was all done ready for use I probably spent about $2400 on 14.5kwh battery 280 amps at 48V. If I were to do it over again just buy a EG4 power pro they cost $3600 you get a UL certified battery system. I plan to add solar this winter just need to get them racked out on my ground mount.

@TheSolarLab great review on the 6000xp, i have to say i have experience most of what you stated on mine, however if you put on the latest firmware you can run unbalanced on L1 or L2 much longer with even more load, also the 6000XP is NOT EG4 flagship inverter, the EG4 18Kpv is and a newer version will be out this November, the second is the EG4 12Kpv , 3rd is the 6000XP and its getting sort of old already, but yeah the 6000XP is the cheap boy on the block with 240v split phase right out of the box, once sick inverter IMO and the web cloud management is awesome as well iMO.

Could I run my AC and some other stuff off the EG4 6000XP, I want to auto switch to solar PV power via the EG4 when the sun comes up, run my AC and as many other circuits as possible then auto switch back to grid power when the sun goes down and do this without batteries? I would want to buy batteries later but at first, run without batteries? I'd rather spend my $$ buying as many solar panels as possible up front. Then buy the proper batteries that would work with this later.
@roatanbound2023
@roatanbound2023 12 күн бұрын
So what does that mean that the AC comes out as two separate 3,000W lines? Can that then be combined using another device?
@jake-mv5oi
@jake-mv5oi 6 күн бұрын
Your 240V power electrical coming into your house is supplied by 2 "legs"(wires) of 120V power(AKA split phase). 240V appliances have both legs connected to them and since the sine waves are out of phase by 180 degrees, it equals 240v. 120v appliances only have one leg running to them and a neutral wire returning back to the panel to complete the circuit. What he's saying is that since the unit has basically has 2 120V inverters rated at 3000W supplying each leg, you can't put more than 3000W of appliances on one leg eventhough it may be less than the whole unit's stated rating of 6000W. For example, if you put 2 heaters that pull 1800W each on one receptacle the unit is powering, it would overload the unit. If you power the heaters from different receptacles that are supplied by their own leg on the inverter, it would run the 3600W combined load just fine. 240V loads like a water heater naturally pull from each leg equally, so they are perfectly balanced and don't require a neutral return wire.

That's because city of Phoenix adopted 9540A ESS which means the battery and inverter have to be UL certified together. EG-4 got the 18 KVP UL listed with the power pro battery which that guy in the video you are referring to had. I suspect EG4 is working on getting the 6000xp UL certified also. States like California are even requiring off grid to get 9450A approved. Not all the counties here in Arizona require it seems to be Phoenix. If he was also trying to grid tie with APS, or SRP utilities they require everything to be approved by California.

I am using less expensive but very good working inverters to power my home in San Diego. My inverters have Current Transformers "Current Clamps" on each of the legs of my 120 VAC in at my breaker panel. They monitor my loads on L1 and L2 and when enough solar is available, they offset the loads down to about 5 to 10Watts from the Grid. They never go "negative" so that I am always pulling some small amount from the grid during the day. My neighbors power bills are around $330.00+ Mine is seldom over $60.00. I would like to upgrade my inverters to something like these 600XP and add more solar to help with AC and also to add batteries for night time. Does this inverter come with current transformers and can it be used as I am using my existing inverters? No contract with the power company because I don't put ANYTHING in to the grid including if the grid shuts down, my inverters shut down.

Perty ain't they. I got three of them hanging on the wall. And I agree the mounting flanges suck. Not wide enough and bolt holes are way to close to the cabinet. Mine are mounted on strut, should be a breeze huh. lol not. Minor stuff though. The PV input can handle 10k (5k per channel) input but will only use 8k. And I burn 20-25kwh daily. Planning to add another 45kwh storage sometime after the first of the year. It's been a tough year with heat and drought but sunshine has been the blessing and not in short supply. But honestly I'd rather have some clouds and rain for a change. We could use some. Just hope the new tariffs coming doesn't jack the price of LFP cells into crazyland.

Thoughts about installing this in a sprinter van? I have high power requirements (2 stark varg electric dirtbikes with 240vac 3.3kw chargers each) and plan to pair it with 48v 280ah 14.3kwh EG4 pack. I'd like to install solar on the roof but the EG4 6000xp has a 120v PV minimum input and that's going to be tough to achieve on a 170 sprinter roof. Might just use a standalone solar charger with lower voltage requirements. I can't find another inverter that meets my requirements. Thoughts?
