I was so ready for a full trip video from Mt Dennis to Caledonia but this is okay too

This line is much needed but it has been very poorly planned. The vehicles are small and will get congested easily during rush hour, basically they're TTC streetcars running on dedicated tracks, like an elongated St Clair line. Priority signalling should have been implemented, I just can't comprehend why they decided not to go for it. I don't get why they chose to build the eastern half of the line at-grade. Maybe that side of town isn't as crowded today, but it will be soon enough.

It's cuz they got the most kickbacks from developers in the west end.

The train capacity with the full 3 cars in use will be 490 people (see thecrosstown.ca/the-project/faq ) - certainly not a subway train but far more than a streetcar. In general underground is vastly more expensive, so it is only used where there is no room on the surface. In the east end there is ample space on Eglinton, so surface makes more sense there. Certainly they can be given signal priority where they go through intersections, but that's up to the City not Metrolinx as City controls the signals, and they simply need to decide how to allocate the finite green time between road vehicles and the trains, so that can be modified in future. Everything is a compromise, that's just life. With unlimited funds and no care for public impacts, I'm sure a much faster system could be built.

@@cumhachd my understanding is that each vehicle has a max capacity of 250. And coupled together it would be 750 - which is a bit less than Sheppard line subway trains, and the 1100 on Line 1.

why didn't the person recording extend the video through the tunnel and through the station? this is disappointing I wanted to see more
@lvalledor34403 жыл бұрын
It might seem these lrts will go the same speed above ground like the 510 Spadina & 512 St. Clair Streetcars but when it goes underground, then they'll go subway speed. If I'm not mistaken, these lrts will probably add another car or 2 max during rush hours for more demand.

It's testing. What do you expect? To go 100/km/h??? Of course it'll go faster than that after testing.

In 20 more years, they will be able to increase the speed by 5 to possibly 10 km/h. Please be patient!

Why is the vehicle driving on the left-hand side? I thought that most of the world drives on the right....
@thegreypenguin50974 жыл бұрын
Canada is right-hand traffic but that's probs the only operation track rn
@Humulator4 жыл бұрын
Its because only those tracks were working, plus not every station has the change track thing so they have to back up when going in the other direction

Can you guys notify me the time of the line opening and the time I should arrive at the depot? I am excited for Line 5, it is going to reduce traffic and make commuting easy to get to my Piano class. But notify me for the opening.
