A room with a view is one of my favourite novels and the film with Helena Bonham cater is incredibly done. Work of art and sticks very close to the book. They are both chefs kiss.

I agree. I love Helena Bonham Carter in that film - and it so well conjures the period and feel of the book.

I knew as soon as I read, "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again" that I was going to love that book. I was about 12, now 61, it's always been in my top 10.

It’s winter in New Zealand so some of these will cheer me up. Read most of them but the Kate Morton one looks interesting so I’ll read that. I have read some of hers and enjoyed them but missed this one. Thank you for your list

Rosamunde, I tend to dip in and out of your content on KZbin, but when I do have time to watch I always enjoy what you say! I have one of the books you spoke of on my shelf waiting to be read, and now I know you equate it with summer reading I'm definitely making it my next book - and that's Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper. I can recommend as a summer read The Forgotten Summer by Carol Drinkwater. I have all of her non-fiction books based on her olive farm in the South of France, and this novel takes a lot of facts from her life there. Great to sit and read outside.

Love your review for a summer read or two….rain rain and more rain for us in the PNW of the States….but it does keep it green and a lovely atmosphere to relax and read or listen to a audiobook….

You do such a good job summarizing books! I live in the States and happened upon a hardback copy of "Lark Rise to Candleford" by Flora Thompson, all three books in one volume, dated 1946, and am happily looking forward to reading it this summer once I finish re-reading Austen's "Emma," which I'm thoroughly enjoying for a second time (another good summer read, don't you think?!!).

I love Emma! I think it was the first Austen I read, and I was hooked! Yes, it would make a good summer read too. I think I read the first Lark Rise to Candleford after the TV series was such a hit some years ago - definitely a good summer read, but sadly I don't have a copy, but I might include it in another video list.

Dear Rosamunde, I love your reviews. Let me add to your suggestions „The Enchanted April“ by Elisabeth von Arnim. This novel not only gives me a summery feeling it is also a story about four different women finding harmony in themselves in an medivial italian castle next to the Mediterranean coast. Brillantly filmed by Mike Newell. With Josie Lawrence, Miranda Richardson, Polly Walker AND Joan Plowright😊

Euphoria by Lily King would be a good Summer book. It talks about the sweltering jungle quite a bit. Only read it if you're prepared to cry, though.

Thank you for all the wonderful recommendations! In summer I always get a bit nostalgic, and love to revisit books. Right now I read Agatha Christie, I have a lot of her books, and I also like to read Detective Nancy Drew, so much fun to read books I loved as a child and young teenager. I also really like Tove Jansson "Sommerboka", I do not know what it is called in english, "The summerbook" maybe? Anyway, it is about Sophia and her grandmother, they spend a summer together on a small island in the finnish archipelago. A beautiful book form the author of the Moomin-family. Tove Janssom also wrote a lot of other books for the more adult audience, even if I think the Moomin books are suitable for adults as well as children.

Hi , I always enjoy your reviews and thank you so much for filling me in on Philippa Carr. I must say I read Tender is the Night, and Zelda and did not enjoy them much. But I do have a question about another book and author from the past. As a young woman I read and loved Pennmaric, a sweeping family saga by Susan Howatch. Did you ever read that? I don’t have my copy anymore and wonder if it’s worth getting another copy to reread. Thank you so much.😊

Kate Morton! One of my favorite writers indeed ❤ thank you for this list. Think I will try Tender is the Night. Recommend perhaps you check out some good “Southern” novels, in many of which the Summer season is almost a character: New Mercies by Sandra Dallas, The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy, The Scent of Rain and Lightning by Nancy Pickard, Family Linen by Lee Smith, and of course, The Wild Palms by William Faulkner ❤

I might to a Mystery list some time - and I'll do horror lists around Halloween. I don't read a lot of horror, but my favourite is Bram Stoker's Dracula. Mystery covers a wide range - but I particularly remember enjoying The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

I love your channel as it is a great mix of recommendations that are new to me mixed with books that trigger memories of both books and life events. I read Greengage Summer, and the Go Between, when I was 12ish spending the summer holidays in Malta. I think they were my first “adult” books where the endings weren’t happy ever after. I remember enjoying them but also needing to balance with multiple Georgette Heyer regencies. Doesn’t seem possible that that was 6 decades ago!

Have you read any of Maeve Binchy’s novels. I like her early work a lot more than her later novels. I would really like to read E. M. Forster’s A Passage to India. I have only read 3 novels by Daphne Du Maurier: Rebecca, Jamaica Inn and My Cousin Rachel. I would love to read more of her books. There is a good biography about her written by Tatiana De Rosnay.

@@deblawrence8341 I am always happy when I find someone with similar taste in books.📖 📚📕 I have a friend in South Carolina (I live in Virginia) that I buddy read with. Later in the week we will start reading Katherine by Anya Seton. I read the book 30 years ago so this will be a reread. I like books set in India. I find it interesting.

I actually haven't read Maeve Binchy - and she's definitely a writer I need to put on my TBR. If you want to read more du Maurier, I would suggest The House on the Strand - a rather different kind of novel that involves time travel that I really enjoyed.
