a Heller was a Half-Pfennig, a Batzen was 16 Pfennig. Nearest Engliosh translation would probably be: A farthing and a tanner, they were both mine-yes, mine The farthing became water, the tanner became wine-yes, wine The farthing became water, the tanner became wine! Refrain: hei--di, heido, heida, hei--di, heido, heida, heidi, heido, heidahaha hei--di, heido, heida, hei--di, heido, heida, heidi, heido, heida The innkeepers and the girls both cry out: "Alas!" - "Alas!" The innkeepers when I come, the girls when I go - I go The innkeepers when I come, the girl

The raw festive sentiments which flow easily and naturally through the conduit of folk music is something that of course cannot be found in mass produced pop-“music” but also something that art music (meaning classical) has to work very hard to convey convincingly. This is why every proper civilization needs both a strong folk tradition and a strong concert hall tradition.

Mal sehen in welche Gesichter man dann schaut. It's awesome except for one thing: it was used by Nazi troops marching East through Poland and then Soviet Union when Hitler planned to put into action his devilish plans of expansion Eastwards to "increase the living space for Germans"! It meant killing or enslaving millions of people and bloody land grabs. Therefore, in the ears of WW2 descendants sounds terrifying and/or unpleasant to say the least. I understand that other nations or young people in Germany may not be aware of this, therefore, I'm not judgemental. Just clarifying.
