@@денисбаженов-щ1б people being intelligent is a matter of merely having knowledge of how things work logically [mostly at its base layer... cause Einstein]. being wise is seeing the dumb stuff people did in history and saying nope to that and doing something [hopefully] better [and writing down your mistakes so no one else does them]. also if people perceived more and were braver than they are... they might seem more intelligent, but instead its just that they are using it more. also what makes you think its mostly genetic? didn't humans go from literally sticks and stones to splitting atoms? are you saying that to survive we must birth more babies by any means possible to progress? because genius is genetic? I have to disagree personally [except for birth more people part, we need that... declining birth rate and such] because for many people one man's stupid is another man's smart (and this gets back to perception and fishes in trees... oh and Einstein.) also is 'Bernard Shaw' the only one who can prove this idea that genius is genetic? who else can you pull up and what were their methods? because I personally believe that genius is a procedure and journey, not a destination. [mostly because others saw me as dumb when I was in school... I got mostly A's in school and study like a mad man. EDIT: for context I was about to be put into special ed, got home-schooled, got a love for learning, and returned to public school for resources and talking to others. @@денисбаженов-щ1б don't you mean ' *it* can harm your mental health'? to question? isn't what you are saying more a determination of intelligence to state that things are static? when they are really dynamic and this is proven by the fact that learning is the status of changing one's intelligence to a better height than before? also I was stating with the fish and trees statement that Einstein stated fish don't belong in trees, monkeys do, while fish belong in the water. referring to the fact that there are different intelligences and also that some may be predisposed to certain fields of study [stem or art and music] because of nature and nurture affecting their path. all I was asking for was a way to better understand your statement and give a polite rebuttal to your perceived argument and you throw seemingly an insult, honestly that might be more a determination of your intelligence than mine, but not the point here. also I am thankful that you can pull another witness to the scene for research, but I seem to find a lack of methods that they used to test their eugenics-based theory about intelligence. also who defines intelligence? if the idiots are defining it, then we have a false statement, if the geniuses defined it, how do they know? can we verify, or is everyone 'dumber' than the geniuses who state that they are... shall we say unquestionable in their logic? like with the covid-19 situation and the mask-on/mask-off fiasco as an example? also enlighten me, what is the basic logic I lack that you perceive in my conversation? is it deduction the process of reducing possible paths by eliminating false statements? or is it induction the process of understanding patterns, trends, and common outcomes to actions? though I would also like to remind you that pharmacists called plague doctors thought that bad air was the cause of disease at a time and that was a 'fact of science'. Don't forget that sometimes, a rookie mistake can solve a problem or provide a different perspective. Some procedures get grandfathered in for so long and everyone knows and follows the procedure that they don't question it anymore. But the intern comes in and asks why don't we use this new material or new technique which renders the old procedure obsolete. For example, smartphones threw a lot of my company's procedures for a loop.

Iq test are really not a good indicator of intelligence. First of all it is mostly concentrated around math and geometry. If one don't have an aptitude for those things, you will do poorly in any iq test. Plenty of savagely intelligent people who don't do math very well, but have an absurd aptitude in thinking in abstracts, which can be just as useful. Many of the great thinkers don't do math and many of the mathematicians don't do philosophy. Anyways, I am more pissed at, how we dunk people over the head with being a genius or a donkey from a single test that test one aspect of intelligence. It is, in fact pretty stupid. It is all about finding what you are good at. We all have strengths and weaknesses. sidenote; Since iq tests are primarily math and geometry oriented. You can learn to be better at them. Which again, seems a poor indicator for latent intelligence.

I relate to this. I was never academically proficient nor prominent. I just realized later on in life that people who worked so damn hard to get soaring status such as high flying colors deselects them from the huge potential of having to discover yourself and unleash creative genius. True wisdom teaches that an empty mind is the most receptive and curious, and that genius is never found nor developed in the academic circles. What is happening actually is status and power struggle, very similar to what happens in politics and culture. So, being 'stupid' or very ordinary is the key to truly overtake the knowledge and systems of this world.

Gives a different perspective. Allows to see the world through the eyes of a beginner, a novice. Allows to simplify. Lets curiosity thrive. 3. People consider you useless. I know stupidity has its own advantages while seeking knowledge which is generally difficult to acquire when you are seen by people as someone who is strong and intelligent. But, acting stupid ia difficult too. Sometimes we can get lost in it that it will become second nature to ask questions to which you already know answers for. Which is why I always suggest to be strong and intelligent when you are capable of being one. Otherwise, slowly you will become dumb while looking for an advantage of acquiring knowledge.

I don't see myself as an intelligent person per say, I think that everyone is born with a window to view the outside world, this window is mostly 2 inches by 2 inches. However, every so often one of us is born with a slightly bigger window, and we have a broader view. The frustration comes when you want to tell the people with the smaller window what you see. Of course, they will not believe you and think you are crazy because their window is a lot smaller and can't fathom the idea of anything else. Sometimes, there will be individuals who do listen and even though their window is smaller, you teach them to use their imagination to see through your window or they use your teachings to make their window bigger. Keep in mind those kinds of people are very rare!

Once you find out you're stupid or you've been stupid, you have to learn how to control your stupidity. That takes desire to do what is best and best is not always what you think, so be careful with how you go about finding out whats best and hope you have some people to support you with that.

I would argue that most people don't like intelligent people that much. It's just an illusion that you have to give the impression of being intelligent to be liked. Many people feel pressured to show off their abilities when they are surrounded by people who are perceived as intelligent, and they don't feel comfortable doing so.

Interesting take, but as Schiller said "Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain." - I would rather lean towards being "simple", "innocent" or "open" rather than being "stupid" - I've always had an issue with dissembling within society (or to myself) and I feel I am much better for it.

I want to point out that there are reasons other than public opinion that people may want to be entrusted difficult tasks. Such goals might be learning, increasing their self-confidence, maintaining sharp skills, distracting themselves from unwelcome thoughts.

A stranger here might help, might not, but at least you hear a perspective, I’m going through kind of the same thing! Remember being authentic is not supposed to be a struggle, so don’t try to force it. What helps is sometimes looking at society as a child would, or perhaps better said in a more primitive way, think of it like this: You see someone with a piece of clothing that to the eyes of society would be extravagant or perhaps weird, instead of using that judgement try to perceive it as a kid, without others people judgement, you might find that the piece of clothing would look cool on you, because you just find it pleasant to the eye maybe people around you won’t like it if you were to wear it, but a good thing to remember to remain authentic is to put your own inner voice that makes that first judgement above the judgement of others, In this example Im using clothes but this applies to everything. One thing that helps me a lot is meeting people that I find interesting and open minded, the type of people that a lot of times seem to be more authentic one might say. Hope I could help

I think many people commenting are mixing up being stupid with being ignorant. As the stoics say, knowing your own ignorances is as powerful as knowing your own strengths. I am not exactly sure I agree with the premise of this video as a whole. I believe 1.) that we should not pretend to know what we do not know just to appear smart to others... as the video states. 2.) We should not strive to be stupid for the sake of some kind of gain... which this video sort of states as an advantage for playing stupid 3.) Be aware that our stupidity impacts others. Intelligent people should not be forced to be held back to accommodate those who are purposely being ignorant or stupid. If you really do not know, fine, you can be taught. Playing dumb just drags down others around you as they are forced to compensate. 4.) While we can be content being stupid, this falls into the ignorance is bliss idea which is just lazy and again forces others to pull you along. However, you can't just pretend what others think is of no use or need. This is where I think stoic philosophers get it wrong. It would work an ideal world, but we don't live an ideal world. Many things for survival are based on how you are perceived in society. If you act stupid, many companies won't promote you or may even cut you as not essential in a time of layoffs for example. Ultimately we should not be afraid of not knowing something, be willing to learn, embrace our ignorances as an opportunity to grow and should strive to be our best most intelligent selves without falsely claiming intelligence.

If you care too much about how you are perceived by others you become their puppet. I dont care how people perceive me. I go about my day usually nowhere in the arena of crowds or the latest fads. I have my opinions, my goals, my ideals and beliefs & things I know to be true because I experienced them or benefited from them. I am always learning something while others are watching TikTok on their phones. Sometimes when I go to the diner in the morning I socialize and other times I read an interesting book on my latest interest. I dont care if people are offended or perceive it in some way. That is all about them and not me. As far as Stoics go. You contribute your part to having an ideal world by being Stoic. Most things you encounter in your daily life have nothing to do with you unless you make it have something to do with you. No matter who you are there are people who are going to like you and those that dislike you. Why should that take you off your path in life?

There's such a thing as taking action via trial & error (which could be considered "stupid"), and then... there's the Dunning-Kruger effect. 🙄 People should be careful of the latter, but truly EMBRACE the idea of making mistakes via getting stuff DONE. If you don't make moves... if you don't get to work... if you don't DO something... you can't achieve jack sheet. 🙂However, if you're truly foolhardy and dumb and you jump into things when you're extremely unprepared, you'll waste precious resources and TIME. Now, if you're young... sure... maybe that's fine. But if you're 40-60+ years old, you no longer have those years to "waste" experimenting with idiocy! As an incredibly intelligent quote from a certain book goes: "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins." Know what you're trying to accomplish BEFORE you begin. It certainly makes reaching the goal (not to mention, identifying it) a whole helluvahlot easier. 💪😎✌️ 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
