As someone who has been living with a severe mental illness and addictions for all of my adult life, I sincerely thank you for this video. I am making the best of my current situation, stable on meds for 7 years, sober for nearly 6 years, lost and kept off nearly 100 lbs, living independently in the community. These are big accomplishments for me but I realize to many I may look like a loser. Poor, no job, no family, no friends. But, I am genuinely happy these days focusing on my health and wellness. I enjoy my simple stress free life. I know fate dealt me some bad luck but I don’t believe in the victim mentality. We need to find success on our terms, no one else’s. Love this channel!

That's actually deeply rooted in psychology. It is a survival tactic that we develop from infancy to be conscious of what others think of us so that we are in tune with their emotions. Being in agreement with another human being always comes as a benefit to you because it ensures you that you will have their support and protection for when you feel endangered. We are social animals. We depend on the aid and companionship of others to help us live healthier and safer lives.

@@justanothermortal1373 I am definitely not disagreeing with you, its the opposite, what you are saying is pretty much a fact. The issue I have is that even though its deeply rooted inside us and basically became part of 'human nature', does it mean there is no alternative satisfying way of living? Training your brain (not completely conciously like some sort of exercise) so that it overtime doesn't seek approval anymore? Because lets be honest, in this day and age its far less important than in the age of tribes. I would like your opinion on it!

This life IS about getting approval, ofc you can live on your own but will you be happy? Why do you think everything is divided into VIP and ordinary? Because VIP makes other people jealous, so make you feel superior. Why do you think superstars and models are earning so many money? Because of the approval. Why do you think scientists get Nobel prize because of the approval of other scientists. Why do you think some people rise in their career? Because of the approval of others.

This video hits home. I’ve been a schizophrenic for over ten years now. I’ve been through hell. I am medicated and stable now. I am on benefits and I have my own apartment. I have what I always wanted. Tried the dating apps and didn’t have much success. I was even mocked by a potential date when I told her I wasn’t employed. Called me a man baby loser. It hurt. I feel like I’m not that at all. I couldn’t even explain my situation. Truth is I don’t like children or pets. And that narrows things down. Is that how society is? I don’t want any part of it. I enjoy my solitude. They will never know how strong I’ve become. Thank you for reading this.

From their cars to their phones and even their entire college education. As for me, I grew up in a broken home. My mother is mentally ill and murdered my father. I was also homeless at the age of 18 and was unable to get any funding for college until I was 24 years old from the government. My cousins work great jobs and get paid twice as much as I do, where I currently work as a janitor and I am still in college. Fate plays a huge role in people's lives. I find myself to be hard working, but I can only work with what I was given.

I stopped caring about anyone else's opinion when I realized that not only do they mock you for your current situation, they also mock you for trying to change it. The classic example is the fat guy at the gym. He is an object of ridicule both for merely being fat as well as actively trying to improve. I think humans are like crabs in a bucket. They hate to see anyone better than themselves and want to pull them down if they get any upward mobility. Why would you even spend the energy to notice the opinions of such miserable creatures?

Reality is that most people at the gym are the people who would not mock a fat person. Most would gladly help and give advice. It’s the other fat people who holdes each other down. And i also know alot of formerly fit people who have become fat. And who need to go back to the gym and face they`re fears. And the main fear is that the world is mocking them or is caring about them. But my main point is that well yes people can see that they are fat. And maby they even think they are losers. That is inside they`re minds. But at the same time the same person is most likely worried about how the world percives them!. This is what they are thinking about most of the time. And this is included alot of people who are super fit, who have body dysmorfic symtoms. Alot of healthy good looking people are also self obsessed and use money on plastic surgery and hate they`re own looks. Mocking and hating on others is a sure sign of narcissism and low self-esteem. We all have our own struggles and demons to face. The fat people should feel pride that they went to the gym, it takes courage to face once own mental illness and fear. Very rarely especially nowadays we can even see the concepts of 'fate' & 'luck' being honestly and critically discussed today, because most people just prefer the simplistic optimism bias (or toxic positivity), including on meritocracy, while ignoring a lot of the harsh truths, facts, & reality.

It's weird because traditionally our culture and religion used to give much value on the concept of luck and fate, like "narimo ing pandum" from java, or "everything is will of God" from Islam (and I think other 5 religions too). So sometimes I wonder, when or why these concepts were fading away. Because the modern concept of believe doesn't fit perfectly with our society's trait. Like, Indonesia generally are coming from agriculture society. We rely so much in weather, nature, all things beyond our control. In other words, we are determined so much by luck and fate. But suddenly in modern era, we are forced to believe that everything happens to ourselves, career, health, relationship, life... all are becaused of ourselves, our will, our hardwork only. No luck, no privilege whatsoever. This is too much to handle by our tipical humble eastern culture. You're right. We need to bring up again the conversation about luck, fate, and stop too much blaming ourselves for everything happens. Anyway, it's good to see a fellow citizen in the middle of this randomness internet.

When someone calls other a loser they lose most of my respect. I think, calling someone a loser means you don't have any understanding of how the world, and people in it works. Same thing as being called stupid. I was called a loser many times, and also a winner many more. I am 35 years old single man with out a job and I'm not happy. But I am working on my self and improving my skills so this state I'm in will change at a certain point, and I'm aware of that so I can deal with loneliness and lack of money. I am talented but unlucky in some regards but untalented and lucky in other, just as we all are. I am also proud to not be bothered with what other people think of me. Thanks for the video, this is a great subject to tackle for this modern times.

Thats real success!!

One of the most amazing philosophies that I've ever heard came from a talk I had with my friend. While relating to her my insecurities, she replied, "Well, I think the thing about life that you have to accept is that there will always be people who are better than you. Better looking, better liked, wealthier and more successful. But the tragedy isn't that you aren't as good or will never be as good but it's that you think that just because you are not *as* good as them, it means that you're no good at all. So just focus on being the best that you can be because I promise that you will never not be enough." Her words changed my perception of everything.

But as Einzelganger said the success doesn’t always depend on hard work…… external circumstances stances has to a lot to do with it. Therefore even after trying ur best to live a satisfying or a full fledged life if people call u a loser then their opinions shouldn’t affect you. I am a believer that life and people are constantly changing, so any circumstance that is befallen someone or that someone currently experiences, isn't permanent. So to have a mentality expecting change and accepting current circumstance (even if they aren't befitting of once dreams/goals), is an important thing to cultivate. I feel like everyone will be a loser in their life at some point, because that's just how life can be, unpredictable & ever changing. So it's up to us to change our mentality, adapt to the situations as best as possible and never stop looking out for an opportunity for change/the next shift.

Like the song by Beck: "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?" I see that as a kind of challenge... You can make some mistake in life and have everyone gang up on you but when you say "OKAY! I meditate from time to time. I have the time to do what i want. I have been battling depression for 20 years and i learned much from the disease, from myself, how to deal with it, i have my priorities sorted and i feel great now most of the time. With my mother we took care of my grandmother after her 2nd stroke for 5 years, We did everything. It was the most difficult task i had to do in my life but we did it from start to finish. I follow Taoist and and Stoic precepts and i am happy most of the time. It made my life so much easier. I don't care what others think of me, i am not an asshole and i try to be kind and compassionate. I am free of strangers' gaze, i don't have to pretend to be someone that i am not in order to impress someone to get something out of that person, i don't have to court because i don't look for sexual interaction and i still feel good. At least you have those 4 friends. I just have one, 2000 miles away. I don't physically live with parents, but my dad does cover all my expenses. The rest of my family is scattered around the country, I rarely speak with them, just text messages every so often. I used to 'thrive' in solitude. But then as my body has aged, doing things like playing video games has become painful due to ergonomic strain injury. I'm over 50, my eyes are starting to go bad on me (maybe from looking at a monitor too much). So what was once my favorite thing, using the computer, has become extremely frustrating. I may not be obese, but maybe because that's because I smoke cigarettes like a chimney. (talk about something the world points at and screams "LOSER!") I'm too deeply addicted to cigarettes to quit, most can't get their head around the level of my addiction. I'm a heavy chain smoker. I'd be more likely to quit if I had a better social life, any time I had been inspired to quit it was in the past, when I was more social. But now, being so alone in life, never married, no kids, no retirement funds... I'm kinda hoping these cigarettes will do what they are said to do. Why would I want to stick around extra years. It's getting tougher and tougher to go on. I'm falling apart and there isn't much hope. And the world will just blame me for all my failures, but they are right, it was all my dumb decisions that led me here, and I am outcast and exiled for being a 'loser'. :( I'm not a happy one.

In 2019 I finally managed to get out of my Night Shift job; I switched to days and 6 months later I was offered a Junior Manager Position. I decided to get in shape and participate in a 54mile charity hike. A month later COVID hit and everything did a full 180. My workplace closed and even though I found another job I was back at the bottom. In 2021 I decided to end my lifetime of loneliness and found a GF. I ended up betrayed and it cost me 8 months of trauma and one of my closest friendships. In 2023 I decided to get in shape; ended up developing debilitating OCD and being unable to go anymore. So I've just decided to stay inside my little hole and, as Dostoevsky writes in Notes from the Underground, settle in it.

What really helps me is positive reinforcement through looking at & celebrating my successes, being as kind as I can to myself & having supportive people. Before my best friends, I'd often feel very bad about myself, partially due to my family I live with. I have asthma with kind of a smoke "allergy", am highly sensitive & have a social phobia so both my mental & physical health keep me from various pursuits. Currently, I have to deal with the cycle of "I want to move out to do better but I can't cause I'm not doing well enough to be able to afford moving out yet". It's hard to fight several battles, sometimes I have to take breaks & be okay with not fighting on some fronts right now in order to rest- but if I manage to either land a job I've been offered or teach myself somethig well enough to make a living out of it from home, then I might finally be able to break free. The part about other people's views is so true- if/when you go vegan or openly stand up against other justice issues, sadly so many people will show their true colours. While there's a thing you simply can't stand or pains you or even emotionally breaks you, others are apathic, in great denial or even make fun about it. It can hurt so much & put great strain on relationships or even break them entirely. When it comes to opinions it's like: "Seriously? Someone who can't even understand/believe basic facts &/or doesn't even have basic respect &/or empathy for fellow sentient beings is someone whose opinion I care/d about? Why?". Of course, it's often not that easy emotionally but when you realise how discriminating many people are, it really lowers one's opinion of them.

always thought I'm a real looser. 27 years old; no college or other useful qualifications; never had friends or a girlfriend, bullied and mocked by everyone since I was a child; NEET for most of my life also because of I always suffered from psychiatric disorders as depression, o.c.d., social anxiety, avoidant disorder, apathy, anhedonia etc. all of this create a vicious circle. I feel lost and alienated from the rest of society, and really don't know what to do with my life. And tis condition will hardly change in the next years.

This video might be the most influencal of all youtube videos I watched on my self improvement trip last year, which ironically is about beeing a happy loser. But this term gave me a new identity, and following to that a new approach to all the things I perceived as negative in my life. After making this mindshift, I had different experiences in work, friendship family and even love. I don't wan't to describe this as sucess, as this would going against the sense of the video, but I definetely would say it made me finally happy. Whatever could go wrong, I was always thinking - at least I can be a happy loser and nobody can take that away from me beside myself. So thanks for that! as english is not my native language, I hope I could make the positive Impact from this video clear on my life and also express my gratitude.

Life is not a competition because competition is fair. Participants start on the same starting line and no one has an unfair advantage over another. Life is the complete opposite of that. Some are born with good health, family, and wealth. While others are born sickly, poor, and in broken families in a poor country. Life is not a competition, this is a lottery and a rat race beating each other up for the scraps.

12:29 Such wise and lovely words, which are rarely spoken. "What counts is YOUR definition of good and bad, success and failure, winning and losing"... I'll add, "and sticking to your deepest morals as much as possible. Because that is true sign of strength, and unbending integrity." Especially important nowadays, when media and advertisements encourage and profit from toxic behaviours.

If you're happy, you're not a loser. The real loser is the one who worked all those extra hours in order to get that promotion, the corner office, and a boost in pay. Only to end up working even longer hours with more stress, more pressure, which results in a lowered quality of life. People are fooled into thinking that a fancy sounding job title and moderate rise in pay is the definition of success, but it's not. Quality of life is the definition of success. Creating a balanced life, one which affords you more time with friends and loved ones, one that doesn't cause you crippling worries and stress, is a life that deserves the designation of success.

I'm a loser and I'm more happy now than I ever have been when I gave up. Like I was extremely suicidal when I was trying because I couldn't overcome what most view as basic barriers. Things that could be overcome by others and many were able to be successful. While being disabled, unlucky, or whatever reason. Things wouldn't work out no matter how much effort I put into it. After giving up, my focus changed to just being happy. Do what makes me happy. Know that when my parents kick me out, when they die, when I go homeless, and so on. I will take my life. Like I help out, and do what i can. But I also stopped stressing over stupidity. Sadly, those around me once in a while they go a bit nuts worrying about me. Trying to bend over backwards in trying to find me a good job. I'm thankful, but I also get the blunt end when they can't find any jobs for me other than min wage. Not because I won't put in. But because legit their is no jobs and what i put in tends to not even give me an interview.

Because there are some people that call themselves losers even if noone around them is saying it. The failure they see comes from their lack of skills, lack of partner, lack of work all while aging without improving those failings which becomes a spiral downward for some. I really wish I could have seen videos like this when I was younger. As an autistic and introvert, I was always shamed for being “boring”, not talkative enough, not doing enough, “weird”, and once I got into my teen years that’s when it really messed with my mental health and self esteem, and I began living my life in pretence and forcing myself to do things I genuinely didn’t want to do in order to be “normal” and considered “interesting”. Then also had parents who put on a lot of pressure to have that typical “success” of university degree, impressive job, etc., but I know that was based on their own life regrets. I’ve battled anxiety and feelings of never being “enough” or “normal” for years, including the struggle of easily becoming overstimulated which just makes me totally shut down. When I think back to when I was at my happiest, it was at a time before I let society’s pressures get to me and I was just being myself and enjoying it: I love quiet, routine, good books with a cup of tea, piano, and doing art especially, just for the enjoyment of it. I love being alone especially and don’t understand that need for constant company or noise.

I think it's important to know that being a loser is a mindset and you can only be a loser if you believe you are. If you are happy with your life and feel like you have won in the game of life then you can't be a loser. It's also important to know that being a loser now doesn't mean you have to be a loser for the rest of your life. You can make choices now that turn your life towards a direction that makes you feel like a winner. Those choices will often require hard work and involve a lot of discomfort but if you are willing to push through it, you can win

Thank you for this fantastic eye opening video once again! I have felt so many times like a loser myself, because I could not keep up with what others had (me as a Single mum working part time and other mothers working even less or not at all and buying everything they fancied with the money their husbands earned) and then giving out to me, why I did not look into such or such a solution for any of my problems which all involved a lot of money (?!!!?) Or making remarks that our apartment could be cleaner, when I did all cleaning myself after work and taking care of my child, when she despite not even working at all had a cleaner come twice a week. As luck would have it for her, a man with a great income fell in love with her. No effort (needed) from her side to create a show off life from then on. What upset me most was the fact that common friends would assume that she was a great house maker, while I was lazy and sloppy. - Did not my apartment prove this? Why do people always assume that whatever can be seen in someone's life is 100% (related to) their (not) doing? Why is it so hard to admit: "Yes, I was/am plain lucky in that regard." Or "I am so sorry for you with all the bad luck you have had so far. You deserve so much better." Now, that would be a good start, I think.

I just realized like. Even if you feel bad luck rising in your life, if you’re watching this safe in your home then it’s gonna be alright.
