3B Umpire Mark Carlson ejected Nationals pitcher Steve Cishek and 3B Coach Gary Disarcina after Cishek hit Mets batter Francisco Lindor in the face with a 5th-inning fastball, resulting in a benches-clearing incident. Report: www.closecallsports.com/2022/...
Three Mets batters had been hit the day before (Opening Day), but no warnings had been issued ahead of Friday's game in which Cishek hit Lindor.
Recall the Intentionally Pitch at Batter rule states that a pitcher or the pitcher along with the team's manager may be ejected if the umpire judges that the pitcher has intentionally thrown at an opposing batter, whereas warnings can be issued at any time and for any reason (e.g., warnings may be issued to prevent further animosity whether or not a HBP was intentional).
After the ensuing benches-clearing incident, umpires convened and determined Dischek and Disarcina were to be expelled from the ballgame.

Agreed. As a brother of an MLB umpire, half the players/coaches dont know the rules. Most of the broadcasters have no clue what they're talking about and oh... the TV "strikezone" is far less accurate than the system that MLB actually uses to grade umpires. Fans are completely misled

I think Chesak did throw at Lindor as he started chirping at him. As fans and former players we know when it's intentional and a mistake just by the actions of the players. Chesak got tossed because of his actions after the HBP. If he had stayed cool then he would not have been ejected. Mistakes do happen. That being said, Showalter is correct. How can my pitchers get a grip while your pitchers cannot? This says a lot to the situation facing both teams as the Nats do not look or act as a contender. The Mets do act as a contender. Showalter is old school so do not be surprised if he sends a message to the Nats by having one of his pitchers properly hit a batter by putting one in the back or up and in (never throw at the head). It won't happen soon but it will happen.

I don't know what the Phillies have to do with this game and why there are people in the comments mentioning them in this case, but I'm glad you're not a Phillies fan because the Mets are playing the Nationals in this game. We can agree on 1 thing and that is this was not intentional. Nationals pitchers more than likely had a bad series with command/control issues. That being said, the Nats coaches need to do a better job at keeping their pitchers from hitting batters. Cishek probably meant to throw inside because Lindor was squaring around to bunt, but the ball just got away from him.

I don't like the ejection here. As a pitcher and as a pitching Coach, I always focused on the Triangle produced by the bat, the Batter's chest to his shoulder, and an imaginary line between the shoulder and the hand up the bat. Throw that pitch right and it's in the strike zone, but very difficult to bunt. On a cold day with the ball slipping and sliding, there's a definite danger of a ball sailing and being up in the head area. Not a huge issue at the youth and high school levels, nobody's throwing real gas, there's time to move. 90+ mph Major League heat, you get something like this. Glad Lindor is okay, no issue with the Mets standing up for him, but to toss Cishek here I don't think is the right move.

If these pitchers cannot control the ball ,then get the hell out of the league ,before you kill a player ..YOU don’t belong trying to be a professional pitcher..

Bad ejection. “You want to get rid of the aggressor” yet it was the Met’s manager who started barking at the pitcher.

Since he didn’t bring his bat back, technically that should have been a strike

No. A bunt is an attempt to strike the ball. Leaving the bat motionless or failing to pull it back is not an attempt.

IT WOULD BE STUPID BY MLB TO PROHIBIT PITCHERS FROM PITCHING INSIDE. THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN PART OF THE SPORT. IN THE 60'S TO THE 90'S PLAYERS IN THE DUGOUT WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS KIND OF THESE UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, GIVING THEIR OWN PITCHER A SOLID ADVICE AND WARNING.

Hey, I know how to stop the bench clearing BS. (it's a stain on the game worse than the damn lockouts/walkouts)... give the umpires 30 seconds to start their meeting to toss the pitcher.... how will that stop the bench clearing stuff.. well, if the umpires are too busy trying to stop an all-out fight... they'll miss the 30 second window meaning they CAN'T toss the pitcher and it's the other teams fault. Give the umps a chance to do their job.

I don't buy the pitchers not knowing how to be accurate. If you want to bean someone. There is no need to go above the waist. If you don't have control, then sit your butt back in minors.
