I wouldn't normally comment on these things but my sample size is unusual so I believe it is incredibly telling for the initial batches manufactured. I can't speak for ACRO P2 optics made after 2023. My organization bought 60 plus (maybe 65?) ACRO P2 optics for a selection course in 2023, on my recommendation. We broke more than 20 of them with various issues from the dot just not working anymore , fogging issues after being rained on and the most common issue, front glass shattering for no obvious reason. In my experience it is not a reliable or durable optic.

Yeah, that sucks when you recommend something, and it poops the bed. I had the same experience when I recommended a pistol light to my agency, and they started to fail miserably. It didn't help that the company changed the construction of the lights after we purchased them.

My RMR type 2 is just fine. On my rifle I have a Steiner MPS I got on sale for 349 this past July 4th. I just mounted it yesterday on my badger condition one setup. If the RMR was on sale for the same price I would have got it instead. The whole “enclosed optic fad” seems kinda overrated at this point. The RCR may change my mind. Hell the Steiner may change my mind, but it’s going on an SPR 556 so it’s much different than a reciprocating slide.

Granted I don't live where it rains (South West), but my Trijicon RMR has gone strong for 10 years of duty and CCW carry... and roughly around 100k rounds through it by being mounted on different guns. I still think the RMR is the gold standard. I wish Trijicon upped their game and released some dots with more updated features, but I'm still happy with the simplicity and reliability of a RMR. I was eyeing the ACRO simply because it's supposed to be the "latest and greatest", but I'm glad I came across this information. Saved me some good amount of $$$.

I'm a gear snob and place a premium of brand name, I love the ACRO P2, I have never had a problem, but if you watch enough videos about them, there is plenty of people who have had ACRO failure at the range or normal daily operation, nothing close to combat use, however despite that, I would always pick a Aimpoint over a Holosun, or other competitor brands.

Some people buy what the internet says is the premium product as “insurance” for if there is are any issues. Example: you buy an Anderson lower and it’s out of spec, people make fun of you; but if you buy a KAC lower and it’s out of spec people crawl out of the woodwork to tell you how good customer service is at KAC and that they will take care of you. In both cases you got a bad product, but if you buy the expensive item there are usually more fanboys on the internet that will support you if there’s problems.
@danielianello

@@WyattDerpTheNotSoEarp Yes, I agree 100% that buying something from certain brands (like KAC) gives you a much better chance of getting a product that works compared to others (like Anderson). However, if you get something that doesn't work properly, it doesn't matter what the rollmark is-it's not working. My comment was more focused on how people react to bad products, and how it is different based on where the product came from. Often our biases allow us to use the Anderson (sticking with the same companies for the example) issues to confirm our perception that a product is trash, while the KAC issues aren't addressed in the same way-we talk about how good their customer service is.

ive had 5 friends purchase the acro at different times throughout 2022-2023, all 5 had to RMA the acro due to them self destructing. Delamination, Fog inside the lens, de-purging, buttons stopped working, Battery cap lost pressure on battery. Aimpoint has been transparent that it has been their 'worst' optic in terms of RMA numbers. I would not run one due to inferior specs compared to the competition, and its track record of lifespan

I have Holosun, Trijicon, Aimpoint, Leupold, and even Steiner. I like all of them. From all the above, I’ve only had to send my Holosun back for repair/ replacement. Personally, from all the optics above, I like the Acro the best because it is a close emitter optic with the largest window I can find. Second place is the Steiner. I’m done with open emitter optics and hate small glass with a narrow FoV. In a perfect world, I’d have a closed emitter SRO or Leupold DPP.

People who buy the ACRO spend top dollar for a foriegn product w/ tiny window & QC issues. Its definitely a fashion statement. People were talking about the glass issues for years, i get using the optic footprint but not their product. I only managed to look down an ACRO after i had my Lead & Steel Pandora, and the later's 30% bigger window in similar size housing is a game changer. Half the price w/ integrated sealing plates & no need for aftermarket parts. People can troll all they want, but im not using anything else.

I had one of the early p2s, only red dot I’ve ever had that experienced a catastrophic failure (emitter popped out of the housing and the dot was offset by several feet at 7 yards) The replacement has held up so far, probably 5k rounds at this point but I don’t keep great track. One thing that is pretty nice about acro is night vision usage, which doesn’t matter for most folks. But the glass is very clear and the brightness settings are nice.

I have an acro p2 on one gun... because it's cut for an acro. I won't be buying another. I don't have a bad experience with it, but its window is a bit small for my liking and I can't get it to conceal for crap no matter how I carry the gun because the enclosed format makes the rear of the optic print. Not all enclosed optics do this. The holosuns don't, for instance. Really just a problem with the acros, mps, and their budget copies. I can give the mps a pass since it cost me like $175 when everyone was blowing them out. I just can't justify a second acro though, even through it makes a pretty good offset rifle dot.

In reservist circles the holosuns have good rep but aimpoints have better. Ofc, the T2 is incredible. My C1 has been to repair once for some clutter on the lens and just in winter I noticed it was fogging up. So they ruined it during repair... But neither problem really stopped me from shooting. I bought aimpoint because it tends to rain often (water or snow or both) and mainly because we have a lot of negative degrees that we shoot in and I suspect the chinese products may not last there. I have neither never had a positive experience of a product made in china. But nowdays with global companies owning everything along with DEI and ESG you can get crap from anywhere.

So I've only ever owned 4(5?) handgun dots. A gen 1 ACRO, that guy went 30k rounds for me, it would fog under extreme humidity but I'd just bump the brightness up one setting and move on with shooting, a gen 2 ACRO which is still pretty new to me and I got it for less than the other dot I own: the Steiner MPS I've had 2 or 3 of these things. The uncertainty comes from my having to send one of them in because one of the tabs that hold the battery in broke and it would cause the thing to flicker off, not sure if they sent me a new one or fixed the one I sent in. It's not some wonder optic, I've just had good luck with them.

I've had people look down on me for putting 507 comps on an infinity and atlas. I just laughed thinking why do you care what I put on MY gun? This one guy went on to get very emotional and claiming he was military etc. I have military friends and they don't throw around being in the military to put people down for the decisions they make. I remember making a comment asking why he's being so emotional about the SRO and he replied by saying the military trained emotion out of him, but he wouldn't stop being emotional about why I have 507 comps on my guns.

The only thing it’s a step up in is cost 😅, I don’t think they’re awful but I also think the Holosun EPS is a contender with a better track record. How’ve almost all of the enclosed dots are not issue free. They take a lot of abuse and it’s a manufacturing struggle to keep them air tight. I also wonder if the type of pistol they’re mounted on doesn’t contribute depending on how aggressively the slide reciprocates.

I got em all, I like enclosed and I’m a big fan of the 509, but I did have to send in the 509 I carry daily because the plastic on the buttons peeled off and reveled electrical board . 12k deep on mine, actually disagreed with velox on that video he made in a few different places, really didn’t like he’s supposedly seen so many fail but didn’t bother to take photos because I’ve seen every closed emitter optic fail from internal problems with the exception being the RCR because I haven’t seen anyone use them yet. I do agree the Acro isn’t any better or any worse than anything else I have it because I haven’t broken mine yet and do also prefer the SRO. I’ve also got one of the original big batches Trex arms brought out when the Acro was very hard to get.

Acro owner here. I wanted a gun with an optic that will work 100% of the time. I chose the Glock 19, and the acro p2. Glock because well... it's a Glock And the acro because of my experience in the military with aimpoint (comp m2, comp m4 and m5). I thought the acro would be the obvious choice. Now seeing all this surface up does make me doubt my decision, so far the acro has been good to me. The biggest problem tho, I'm from Israel, couldn't buy it here and I imported it from the US, so basically, I got no warranty which means, if 1 thing surfaces up, I'm screwed.... So, anyways, in your opinion, what's the most reliable and rugged optic?

From all reports I've seen and heard from people who have more experience with ACROs than just the one they bought, they seem to have a lot of QC issues. Plus they are huge. For ccw they are too big and a waste of money. IMO the only enclosed emitter red dots that are a reasonable size for ccw are the EPS/SCS Carry. But the fogging issue is why I went open emitter. You can always at least wipe the lens on both sides and see through it ro use irons. Since there is no way to immediately remove a red dot from a pistol maintaining the optical path for the irons is more important to me than the tiny chance a rain drop or speck of dust blocks the emitter since I can use irons in that case. If the inside surface of an enclosed lens fogs, your have nothing but point shooting.

Ben gotta ask, Are slow motion reps still valuable? I noticed in some of your very first videos you incorporate slow motion reps for draws and reloads. In a lot of your recent videos talking about speed of shooting you mention how the qual mindset of “slow down and get your hits” can be detrimental to shooter development because you’re not pushing yourself, just teaching yourself to miss slower. Using just one example; am I hurting myself or wasting time by doing 40 slow motion reloads (say about 50-60 percent of full speed) and then trying to hit my desired par time with another 40? Curious what you think.

Aimpoint T2 is the only sight I’ve ever seen get pretty much universal praise. They did something right with that one and there’s a reason why it’s the standard. Even the CompM4 and M5 have silly quirks (the M5 with the lower battery compartment doesn’t use T2 mounts while the more fragile higher compartment version does, for example). As for pistols… you’re putting electronics on the reciprocating slide of a pistol. Don’t expect anything to last forever with that type of abuse. I doubt that will ever change. Get what you can afford that has a warranty and train with it.
How to stay mediocre
