The sword itself has a damage frame which is the 600 to 700 damage you see from time to time, this part of the weapons can be I-framed however the grab itself ignores I-frames, that’s why the damage is so different from time to time!

one of the funniest new weapons I came across is the "lizard greatsword" heavy attacks launch a projectile while the sword does a thrust. It's infusable, and If both the thrust and projectile land, it basically does double damage. Stacks with charged attack talismans, has a deceptive range for catching players off guard. Downside is it's a random drop from imps in the DLC dungeons/catacombs. If you come across it give it a shot, it's like having a 1/2 range crossbow on top of a greatsword (with a claymore style thrusting heavy)

Chase, the double damage comes from the first hit. if you land the ash of war on someone who is already dodging it still grabs but the first hit (you stabbing the sword in) does no damage. Also the ash of war dmg increases with the crit talisman

I'd definitely recommend the Smithscript weapons Chase. They're so funny to use. The hammer especially has such deceiving range on the running R2 so you can definitely catch some people off guard with them, even if they're running away.

if ash makes direct weapon contact you get the early weapon damage. but the grab area is larger than the weapon hitbox, so if you miss with weapon, you still get the grab, then get ash damage

Even though the Dexterity scaling is a *D,* the weapon gets better returns at around 30! (Strength soft-caps fairly hard at 54) Also, if you manage to land *Golden Crux* at the same time someone else lands a grabbing attack on you *(Inescapable Frenzy, Lifesteal Fist),* you will get some truly bizarre results!

I've been rocking this thing in invasions since i got it. The grab will straight up pull people out of their rolls, and is a work of art. It's also useful for stopping Mesmer's Spear spam since you can pull them out of that as well

I think the Smithscript Cirque has a lot of potential. It can have the new backhand blade ashes and the jump heavy has a fast weapon throw that can do some good damage, while the charged heavy can hit multiple targets. Seems like a high skill weapon but could be fun!

While a S dex scaling is nice, int or fth builds get a whole lot more AR with the thing because magic/fire/sacred infusions scale both, physical and elemental damage with the corresponding stat. It's really easy to reach like 800 AR with only 60 in either stat.

With the testing I've done with this weapon, I was able to hit roughly 1700 ~ 1900 @ ~lvl 200. The AOW has a cone hitbox that activates as the player is decending from the air during the AOW. The build was 50 Faith, 60 Dex and 30 Str. With roughly around 150 to 200 ping, you can still catch people during a roll, but you will not get the initial tick of damage.

The crit calcs using the AR of the weapon but the follow up of the AoW scales with faith. One of the rare weapons where its not a bad idea to invest into a little more than the min faith requirment

Hey Chase, the smithscript weapons are pretty unique in that they have physical damage that scales with faith and int, kinda like the erdsteel dagger! So if you faith or int infuse it, it'll scale both the elemental and physical damage. With 60 faith, I have nearly 1000 AR on the great hammer sacred infused. You should check it out!

The bonus hit happens when you land the Ash while the victim is doing an attack or certain other actions, at which point it either does an extra hit with damage equal to a regular R1, or in some cases will do the full grab damage twice!

Btw you can hit 0hp and still kill someone with the sword in coliseum combat and always win. Because you die a short period after the animation but its the long death animation and the death animation after being skewered is usually the short death animation.

This AoW is my new favorite counter for dragon breath, it's so satisfying lol. Edit: The double hit is due to elevation somewhat - There is a hit box at the hit that's disjointed from the grab hitbox further down the sword. That hitbox expires once the tip touches the ground (slightly sooner actually but it's close enough). If you hit them before your character rotates the sword down you get both hits more often than not. Tested this grabbing a bunch of diff AoWs/jumping/stairs, here's some notable finds. Almost always got double hit: Incantations: -Jumping Dragon breath -Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear -Fortissax's Lightning Spear -Lansseax's Glaive AoWs: Ancient Lightning Spear(ONLY FROM BEHIND) -Buttslams -Dragonwound Slash -Lion's Claw (100% on this for some reason) Notable: (The following assume even elevation) Raptor of the Mists fully is negated, impossible to get the "bonus" hit, the grab doesn't cause the TP. Any ground slam/shake/shatter will never get the bonus hit. Any AoW that tethers you to the ground while moving will also never get the double hit (Prelate's Charge, Lightning Ram, etc)

I think the reason why sometimes it does dmg and it doesnt is because of the grab that it has. Sometimes when they are sometimes moving often or panic roll the damage appear until the second thrust in. Its like when you go for a back stab and they dodge at the last second/ frame where it nulifies the hit,in this weapons case i think thats whats happening to the first part of the strike were its trying to register either the grab or the damage at the same time the grab ends up being first and only the second part of the damage comes out

It's the tracking that makes the AOW so strong atm. You can get hilarious catches around corners when you maintain lock. Edit: The additional damage comes from hitting the head section with the skewer afaik.
