Technically the translation is correct. Messmer's flame does burn both body and soul. But there is a nuance to it: Messmer's flame "purifies/cleanses" the soul so to speak but doesn't have a destructive property of frenzied flame. So yes, the souls are indeed remain, they don't perish.

Yea, burning the soul might not mean death. People will say someone’s“heart is on fire” as a form of saying how much passion or energy they have. Burning sage can cleanse the environment. Ash is something used as a metaphor of rebirth. That’s why you’re the ashen one in dark souls 3 and the fire gives you strength. There are many forms of fire and the hornsent believed in “invigorating” the spirit using the horns to connect with god. In hornsent society anyone or anything that had horns was a god. So your spirit was very important. That’s why they have very little sympathy or empathy because the spirit will be used in their rituals. That’s how you get ashes to strengthen spirits. Anything to do with spirits is hornsent. Those who have smaller or very little horns weren’t fighting against Marika. So it’s a baptism by fire. But Marika realized that the shadow of the former self can never be done away. So she hid it. “The current imperfection of the Golden Order, or instability of ideology, can be blamed upon the fickleness of the gods no better than men. That is the fly in the ointment.” That’s what gold mask figured out and fixed. Giving absolute domain to the golden order.

I am a fan of the channel and I really enjoy your approach but I'm just curious why this isn't a short. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of youtube but I really enjoy your videos but I find watching these one minute tidbits of lore to be unsatisfying for lack of a better word. I can get behind you doing more short form videos especially if you are able to make more videos but if they aren't going to be shorts may I suggest maybe doing a mini FtOL series where you do 3-5 of these sorts of translations so they seem more substantial. Again, there may be a method/reason behind this but I would prefer something a bit more robust.

Multiple reasons: The aspect ratios for shorts are pretty limiting, and when I tried posting shorts before, it didn't have much reach and didn't really lead to a lot of crossover engagement, and my own audience seemed oblivious to them. I'd rather the content reach as many people as it could, and because I've been inactive for a little bit, I figured I could try priming the algorithm before I drop my next big video on Sunday. You also can't fast forward or rewind shorts. What's up with that?
