Kinda of a tragic relationship really, Ronin's set made it seem that one of the few things Yura really loved in life was Eleonora, along with the fact that he also seems to have a great respect for her as another tarnished

The magma wyrms being former drake knights has got to be one of those theories that makes the most obvious sense in my mind. Seeing Eleonora in that set while attacking us with dragon incants only adds weight to that theory. Also, assuming theory is true, kind of tragic that Eleonora essentially traded one form of corruption for another. Meanwhile, Yura is yet another kind of tragedy.

I also love that you can run both blood oath magic and dragon communion magic on the exact same build with no problem. This shows that there is an interesting relationship between the two and a reason why someone the Mohg would be interested in a Dragon Knight and why a Dragon Knight would be interested in being a Bloody Finger This also shows a relationship between Mohg and the Land of Reeds sense all named characters from the Land of Reeds have a relationship with Mohg and the Bloody Fingers, also all Japanese styled weapons having blood loss. The first hint we are given about Dragon communion is also from Yura. So there is definitely a strong connection to Mohg, Bloody Fingers, Dragon Knights, and the Land of Reeds.

The drake knights being raised from birth to seek dragon strength is really sad. Being pushed into wanting an addictive source of power, likely so that they would become mighty, inspirational dragon warriors. Instead, they were cursed for their slaughter to a fate they can only avoid by finding another way to feed their hunger

the history of the lands between is really interesting, I feel like these knights were probably one of the most formidable factions at one point, an even better question is who did they fight for and why they seem to be connected with farum azula but i love that it's open-ended and a fair warning for those who lust for power

I’m hoping that one day we get a fromsoft game where the setting is in its prime instead of WAAAAY past it. Looking into the past to find clues is cool but it would be nice to participate in it some time

Yeah, that seems to be a general trope for fantasy. It makes sense in this situation sense George r.r. Martin was the one responsible for most of the post history storytelling and not the present day story telling.

That's a common theme for miyazaki's souls games, with lots of characters throughout going mad, mutilated, or both by an obsession of becoming a dragon, or dragon like.

It's such a nice parallel to the Hunters of Yharnam. Humans* with bloodlust who turns into malformed beasts of the gods they wish to be. And the greatest finds salvation in the blood. I like how the Drake set has petruding drake horns that looks like the petrusion of the omens. Could have been a common ground in a sense when Mohg turned Eleonora

Seems that Violet Bloody Finger replaced one addiction with another. Consuming your enemies to get stronger does seem like a really old, crucible/primordial thing to do, something you'd expect more out of beasts and beastmen than human knights. Still, if your destiny is to become a wyrm with no remaining sense of self or a bloodthirsty hunter who pursues your own kind... Considering their speechless hunter culture, Mohg's Dynasty could be seen as a lesser evil.

The Beastman were actually quite advanced and communal. Serving alongside multiple races and beings. Their culture and knowledge was so vast that Godfrey took the dignified Sarosh as his council

Serosh served as an inhibitor for Godfrey's battle-lust as much as an advisor, but I think I see the point you're making here. Prior to the beastmen receiving their intelligence (and by extension starting their civilization), I doubt they would have looked something like dragon communion anymore strangely than the Great Serpent and its kin consuming champions for their strength.

I will say this, I don't believe Mesmer has any ties to the Drake Knights. His armor is reminiscent of the Drake Knight set but his focuses heavily on serpent motifs rather than dragons, and the helmet is completely different.

If you look at the starting class of Draconians, they are the people of Ancient Dragons, I think they are the ones that started Dragon Communion, I think they are the ones that are in the Banished Knight Armors cause they are the only other group that use the power of dragons and appear in places where dragons live, which lead me to think that is why regular humans become corrupted and turn into wyrms.

I do remember a past dark souls game, arch dragon peak I think the location was. Remember there being some drake knights there too. Wonder if they’re a separate faction to the Elden ring drakeblood knights.

Don't think that the Draconic Tree Sentinels became Magma Wyrms but I do believe they are meant to signify the transition to Drake Knights. The Draconic Tree Sentinels make use of Ancient Lightning Incantations, this denotes a devotion to the Dragon Cult Religion of Godwyn. I believe the Sentinels adorning themselves in the remains of dragons was an ancient first step. But I think the Drake Knights are likely a post "Night of Black Knives" order. The Ancient Dragon Cult preaches veneration of the Ancient Dragons. It is seems over time the Sentinels, without their Demi-God to temper them, began to lust for not just the power of dragons (lightning) but the essence of being a dragon. The silence inherent to the Drake Knight order denotes, too me at least, an original foundation in secrecy. Dragon Communion was/is blasphemous and taboo (You are killing and eating the heart of the target of worship/teachers/friends). Though the helmet speaks of birth the communion bowl reminds me a basin used in baptism. After being baptized some apply the term "born again" to themselves and I believe this is the "birth" the helmet is speaking too. From within the ranks of the Ancient Dragon Cult the cult of Communion silently grew. When they gained enough numbers they seem to have started an internal civil war within the proper Dragon Cult. The current sites for communion contain statues that resemble those found in Farum Azula (original birth place and home of dragon worship) but they are all destroyed. The thorough destruction of the Old Cult iconography reads as defilement. The Cult of Communion, I believe sacked these locations. The end result was the almost complete annihilation of the old cult with the ruins of their old temples defiled into Communion ritual sites. Only one of the old Dragon Cults churches remains undefiled, as it is guarded by, of all things, an Ancient Dragon but further bears iconography more closely aligned to the Golden Order, a level of heat the Cult of Communion wasn't/wouldn't be ready or able to contend. This could explain why Lansseax attacks us on approach. She assumes we are there to defile the Storm Caller Church, last church of the Ancient Dragon Cult. After all, renounced or not, there is/was a Drake Knight spotted nearby in Altus.

I like this idea, however it doesn't account for the drake knight armor being found in Farum Azula. They'd have to be an ancient order for their armor to be present there.

@@square-table-gaming The Draconic Tree Sentinel right outside Maliketh's arena. I suggested in my op that Communion was born in secrecy among the Dragon Worshippers. The Malformed Dragon Set pretty much reads like the prologue to Dragon Communion "A Malformed golden armor set. Adorned with various dragon imagery and worn by the misshapen Tree Sentinels. After the great ancient dragon Gransax attacked, the sentinels had an epiphany. The only way to truly protect the Erdtree was to become dragons themselves." The Dragon Great Claw suggests the transition from killing Ancient Dragons to Modern Dragons: "The claw is enwreathed with lightning, and tears through the dragons' feeble descendants with ease." The Drake Knight armor is made of flesh and membrane unlike the Draconic Sentinels, so it is likely made from modern dragons. This demonstrates an update in tradition based on the availability of dragons. That armor could belong to that sentinel. It could belong to one of his comrades who has fallen at this point. But the nature of its makeup suggests it isn't as ancient as the place we find it. And Farum Azula is overrun with people from different eras. Edit: (The Dragonclaw Shield says "Greatshield said to have been whittled from the claw of a great, ancient dragon, wielded by grotesque Tree Sentinels who yet serve the Erdtree." That last bit "who yet serve the Erdtree" pretty much means, "still serve the Erdtree." This can imply that some among their number went astray and devoted themselves serving something else, their own appetites maybe.)

It's the bandit's curved swords. I slapped bleed abilities on those bad boys and one jumping attack has the potential to hit 4 times making bleed procs a breeze.

It's a biblical reference from Genesis for sure, Genesis 1 26 27 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth". But it also has a deeper meaning behind it, one that can best be thought of as a liminal period, with a flood of power gushing forth from, ushering in a new Epoch for them when tied to the Great Flood and the beast there: Genesis 8:19 King James Version (KJV) "every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark". Showing in this power gained, one will still ironically be ruled over by man. In this case, the knights themselves, or at least the future knights to take the oath to hunt and kill their former fellow. Further given credence by the act seen as ruinous. Obviously it isn't that simple, and is tied to many other references as well from other various forms of beliefs and ancient myths.
