Once I got over the heart attack of the cost of Parallels, this worked! This has saved me so much time and heartache. I tried the route of partitioning my disc, downloading ISO this and that, and after erasing my entire hard drive (that was luckily backed up), I was at my wits end. Seriously. Just pay the money for Parallels- it will take away all the heartache and hopefully you can recoup the cost by landing higher paying work with Storyline. THANK YOU SO MUCH! New follower. I can finally move on to learning the actual software I need.

@@elearningacdmy JUST getting started (today) after already watching a ton of YT vids and a few LinkedIn Learnings. This video definitely helped me get set up quickly with the free versions. Made a portfolio class and was surprised at how clunky AS is compared to PPT. Steep learning curve and way more frustrating than expected. It isn't pretty but it covers most of the basic skills. I guess I'd like to see some on ending a course well, simple ways do the "show your score" slides after taking a few quizzes. I also got hung up doing hot spots (my base image kept disappearing and clicked around for probably 30-40 minutes trying to figure out why!). Just some thoughts. For real, though, your vids are SUPER helpful.

@@elearningacdmy I have followed your settings which have improved the performance! Thank you Tim! Do you find that using 8 Processors and 64GB Memory is necessary for a smooth experience on Parallels, or have you had success with lower specifications? I'm currently using Storyline 64-bit on my Macbook with 32GB RAM, allowing 8 Processors but only 26GB Memory in Parallels. I've still noticed sluggish performance, especially when working on slides with numerous buttons and triggers. For instance, copying and pasting a single button can take several seconds. Have you encountered a similar issue? I'm considering a mini PC as a potential solution to improve performance.
@elearningacdmy Жыл бұрын
@@swdigital_lxd I use the same settings and it works mostly fine. For reasons that make no sense, it doesn't do well when I first boot-up Windows. It's like I have to give it an hour or so to "wake up," and then the performance improves. I've also learned that Macs will throttle performance depending on whether or not you're actively plugged into power. So, I always make sure I'm not running on the battery.

@@swdigital_lxd hi, I am planning to buy a Mac, but I am hesitant as I have heard it lags a lot while working wit Storyline even with Parallels. now, that has fixed your issue, does it mean it no longer slows down or better than before?

Thanks for this video. Amazing! I currently use SL in an enterprise/company environment. I started as a video creator for the company and my role has morphed in to an e-learning designer role. That said, I've always used a company Mac for the video work, and I've used an older Windows machine for SL. So, I have to lug around 2 computers any where I go...lol. Anyway, I've always moved files back and forth via OneDrive, but my question here is how do you move files you've created on the Mac side over to the Windows side (say you have a video you created in Final Cut that you want to incorporate in your training)? I was hoping you'd show that. Would you still need to use a OneDrive, Google Drive, or other cloud solution? Or could you do this locally on the computer? Really enjoy your videos. Especially since I'm only a few years in my e-learning design journey.

That’s a great question, Mark…and one that I wish I would have addressed. The answer is rather simple: I have Dropbox installed on both the Mac and Windows side, and I keep all my files synced that way. So, if I create a graphic in Adobe Illustrator in my Mac, it goes in the project folder on Dropbox, and then it syncs to the Windows side almost immediately. I hope that makes sense!

Do we have to buy a separate Windows license for parallels?
@elearningacdmy Жыл бұрын
Parallels will automatically download and install Windows...and while you don't need to purchase a separate license for Windows, you'll be limited on what settings you can change...and it will occasionally remind you that you need to activate it by purchasing a license. With that said, technically, you can use Windows indefinitely without activating it. I hope that helps!
