Enjoying the build so far. I want to add my .02 on your build. In an effort to save weight, try removing all the extra threads on your bolts. Anything that's longer than the nut. You'd be amazed how quickly you can shave a full pound. Same with wiring. Leave adequate space for sure, but don't use 12 inches of wire where 8 will do. Every ounce saved is less strain on the bike, and likely a touch more range. All pluses. Good luck.

did you every figure out the reason the battery voltage was low? I would've initially attributed it to BMS protection circuits but you bypassed the BMS on discharge. As Kurt said, the BMS couldve been slowly discharging the battery over 2 months - although that BMS shuts itself off and takes very little power. I have one of those on an ebike with a 72V battery and it sat for almost the entire winter and only lost a few volts. Looks like you managed to revive the cells, but taking them up from

The switch is not powered, it just re directs. There should be a single input and two outputs. Apply the 12V to the input the output should be able to be applied to a signal wire on the controller for reverse if required. I never bother wiring reverse on my bike. Remember to fuse everything. I use a small automotive fuse box from princess auto. Looking forward to seeing the final product!
@Demoni6964 жыл бұрын
Great progress on the bike! Bummer about the battery voltage :( If that 19v measurement is accurate each cell was discharged to 500mv, well below their safe threshold, be super careful. The fact that the pack went from 19 -> 84v in only a hour makes me think that the BMS you are using might have some sort of low cell voltage cut off to protect the pack from over discharge. Do you have a link to the BMS unit you are using? Can't wait to see you take the first ride.

Does extending the motor phase cables have any negative effects? I thought that pre-length phase cables are set from the manufacturer for a reason.

Most bms's still put out some weak voltage when it's in protection mode to lower the spark when you connect a powerful charger. Glad you got it all worked out. Unless you had the battery in discharge only wiring for the main output, then yeah, those cells are ducked.

All Lithium Ion batteries lose their charge if not used by gradual de-ionisation. It's perfectly normal. They store electrical charge differently to Nickel Cadmium, Lead Acid, Alkaline, etc. batteries which only lose charge via discharge or their internal reactant's chemical decay. However, as with all batteries, they lose a wee bit of capacity everytime they're cycled, rather like having a fuelled vehicle whose gas tank shrinks minutely everytime it's filled up. That's one of the big drawbacks of electric vehicles that rely on batteries rather than a fuel cell.
@ericensley24274 жыл бұрын
Everything u say is true, but u are still wrong. Lifepo4 will not entirely discharge in a couple of months on their own. Something in that pack discharged the battery. Yes batteries degrade, but that can be managed by not charging to 100% and not discharging to 0% . Stay in the 80%-20% range and batteries will last 4000+ cycles. Fuel cells suck, and here is why, SULFUR. It fouls up the membrane. If u ever get a FC car, don't drive behind a diesel.

@ericensley24274 жыл бұрын
That is from WAY old lead acid batteries. It was back when they used rubber case on the battery and the electrolyte would leak out from the cells, short the cells and kill them. With modern lead acid/agm, they don't leak. But yes it did happen in the past but it is no longer a thing due to modern building matert.
