You just reverse the motor, or you can release the drag.

The motors and gear boxes come out of China, they are available on Ebay etc, and the shafts and other bits to drive it and mount it were made in the garage.

Hi Marli I'm a mackreal fisherman and would love to know the size & brand of the electric motor. Do you think they would handle a big mackreal . Would love to have a chat with you ,any chance of that happening?

Yes they would handle mackerel easy. They pull up big deep water fish from 100+ meters. Double headers some of the time. The reel and its drag is the limiting factor. It's my father that actually makes them.

I will have to find out. I didnt make it myself. Its not just the motor you need. There is a few hand made parts to allow the motor to drive the reel and the drag to be functional.

I don't have a video made, and the Reels are a fair way from me. It also includes custom parts that were hand made.

Its a standard Alvey deep sea snapper reel with a modified shaft, it uses the standard drag.
