Im any HVAC pro 30 years. Sequencers are a thing of the past they were needed in the past to turn each element on one at a time to prevent the transformer up on the pole outside the home from blowing. With new transformers today they are 100% no longer needed. If yoy see a bad sequencer in electric heat repalce them with a contactor with lugs and up the wiring size to #10. Try to replace all push on terminals with eyelet type terminals as they prevent resistance to electrical flow that over heats and melts wiring. There are kits to replace the entire electrical heat system including all wiring, contactors, limits, safteys, elements, and breakers that are often less expensive than replacing individual parts and are very quick and easy to install. HKA-15C for example. These kits are all comming with contactors instead of sequencers like I said they are no longer used today as they are a failure point where contactors are much more robust.

Hi. If there is no forum of sequencing in electric furnaces now. Are you saying all the elements come on at the same time ? How are they then controlling the voltage drop when the furnace starts ? How are they controlling the voltage spike when the furnace shuts off ? Thanks
@taylerellis378
@taylerellis378 Жыл бұрын
@@dalefaurschou3167 as stated before we size up the wiring to #10 this cancels out the voltage drop within the unit and most electric furnaces are already provided from breaker panel to furnace with #8 or better. Yes all elements can come on at once. If its an issue you can install 2 contactors. 2 elements on one and one on the other. Put w1 to one contactor and w2 to the other. Or stage with a timed delay on make relay using only w1.

All my mobile home furnaces are gas because we're out in the sticks where propane rules, except one electric unit in the city...so thank you. One thing worth mentioning for newbs; Wire used to replace crispy ones should all be high quality 105°C rated. The good stuff. Thanks for yet another informative vid Tad!

Thanks for the video. I'm from west Texas. I bought 21 mobile home rentals in June. I'm learning about how to maintain them. The HVAC systems and the drain/sewer/septic issues are in a dead heat for what requires the most maintenance. I've learned tons about AC this summer and I got my first call for no heat yesterday.

I always use 10 ga wire with good crimp terminals and you’ll have less overheating issues. Also good annual coil/drain cleaning, tape/silicone top of electrical compartment to keep water out will make your breakers/sequencers/transformer last longer.

@rv 10flyer84 Excellent advice! If the factory 12 ga is burning, the upgrade to 10 ga is very smart, so is use of higher quality terminals. All my hi-temp terminals have nylon insulation sleeves (105°C rated), not vinyl like the cheaper automotive (90°C rated) grade stuff.

I installed one of these furnaces when we built the house in 1997. Never had a problem until last winter ended up having sequencers replaced twice about a month apart on two separate service calls. Finished out last winter ok. (Also had a couple of burnt wires each time). This past week it has started running uncontrolled again. When it does this I shut off the power for a while and after power on again it may run most of the day before before the problem repeats.

Hoping someone here can give me some advice. I have some electrical knowledge but no furnace experience. Nordyne E3EB-015H blower made an unusual, sort of deep whir, sound and kicked its breaker. The fan is also hitting the enclosure slightly. I did a capacitor and resistance check on motor that seemed ok. I'll put the readings below. I couldn't feel any slop that would have been bearing related but there was some movement from the mounts. I thought that may have been ok since it has the rubber bumpers but, after watching another video, I believe that I should have tightened them. After reinstalling, the unit ran for a while before blowing warm air and shortly after that it sounded like it was changing speeds but then made the weird whirring noise and stopped. Instinctively the first thought is the motor/capacitor but I feel like something else is going on. I know that a relay was replaced about 8 months ago (I don't live there). Any ideas or advice? Readings: High = 25.7, Med = 29.7, Low = 37.7 Orange to Black = 22.6

My furnace has 4 elements and 3 stacks of sequencers. They burn out fairly often. I have probably replaced atleast 6 in 40 years. Would there be a way to use some heavy duty relays or magnetic starter in line between the sequencer and the elements to take the load off the sequencer. This way the sequencer would only have to supply the power to energize the relay instead of the large draw of the element.

I'm getting ready to replace the OEM sequencer on my mobile home furnace. The replacement (an Emerson/White Rogers) has the labeling in a different order for the set of contacts (e.g., where M5 and M6 are on the old one it's reversed on the new one. On the old one, M5 is on the top terminals and M6 is on the bottom terminals, but on the new one it's the other way around). My question is should I still wire it exactly the same as the old one? From everything I've come to understand, this shouldn't matter, and I should be able to wire it exactly as it was on the old one. Wire for wire on the same terminals, regardless of this difference. Also, my old one has jumper wires, whereas the new one is already linked (like the one in the video). I'm assuming I no longer need those jumper wires? Not that I could connect them to the terminals with the link in the way anyway. I'm sure that seems obvious, but I just want to be thorough with regard to my limited experience.

Hi Tad. I’m dealing with a similar issue helping a friend restore heat in his mobile home. The original sequencer has one of the metal jumpers bars at the bottom removed, it appears to have been clipped off. The new one has both the metal jumpers bars on each side. Is it ok to leave it as it is, or should one of the bars be removed, like on old sequencer? Thanks.

Can a bad sequencer cause your blower motor in an electric furnace to stop running? I have a sequencer with a melted apart wire that used to be attached to it. I’ve changed my capacitor for the blower motor and the blower motor does not turn. Just a very loud humming. And then the blower motor gets extremely hot to the touch. What must I check now?

Can you explain what happens when a wire burns slightly instead of completely? The power for some outlets occasionally fails to connect at all; as if the total load of the wire was an issue. What I learned so far was that the wires connect to the breaker, would that indicate that this were the problem?

Hello, Thanks for the video. I am actually working on my intertherm furnace right now. I bought the double sequencer like in your hand but actually broke that bar off connecting the 2 because mine before were separate. Did I screw that up? My heat is blowing out cold air. I took pics of the wiring before I took them out but my pics didn't come out so great. I have been working on it for 3 straight evenings looking up diagrams, videos, and pics online trying to figure this out. I got it hooked back up but it still blows out cold air. But I feel like I've hooked it wrong. I can't make out where the wires go from the breakers and there's a jumper wire I really have no idea where it goes. I know you can't see what I'm saying but maybe you can give me an idea. LOL! Thanks

For the first time in 12 years I sucked all the cob webs and and blew out the unit. Cleaned it out real good. I turned the break back on and turned on the Heat. I smelt a bad burnt rubber smell. The Heat coils stayed on after unit was turned off. So I turned the breaker switch back off. The wire that connects to the sequencer is melted. How would me cleaning the unit cause that? The sequencer to malfuncition?

Hi Tad. Please correct me if I’m wrong in what I just saw and heard in this video. Near the end of your video when you were testing amp draw your meter showed the element you were contacted to, was energized before the blower motor had started. This is not correct ! Depending on model/type of the sequencer. Your blower motor is to start before any element is energized or with the first element. Under NO circumstance should an element be energized before the blower motor.
@TaddyDigest
@TaddyDigest Жыл бұрын
That is correct the blower has to run or the heaters will trip the limit switch

Usually the thermostat settings are the reason the blower doesn't start immediately Sometimes the thermostat needs to be switched from gas to electric
@dalefaurschou3167
@dalefaurschou3167 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes all I was trying to point out was that it appeared that you had an energized element before the blower was energized. That can only happen if the fan isn’t connected to the first tripping sequencer as it should be
@dalefaurschou3167
@dalefaurschou3167 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Just saw your second reply. I’m not sure I quite understand what you mean about the thermostat settings and the blower coming on after an element. Correct me if I’m wrong but all the thermostat is doing is sending current to energize the sequencers, which in turn are to be wired so that the blower starts first followed by elements.

Thank you for the information. Your video was real helpful explaining what my Coleman EB20B just did two nights ago. My MFH is a 2016 model with a A.C. on tope then blower with the furnace on bottom. Up late finishing a HG Gundam I heard a pop and then popping sound. It was only a few seconds to see the smoke and get the fire extinguisher. Not enough to set my fire alarm off thou . I had to replace the limit switch on both heat elements last year.. When one blow so I replaced all of then . At that time, I cleaned it up and blow out the dust. I am lucky I did , because when the sequencer popped it made a mess of it . I will try and get a clip of some pics for you. With all the wiring in the way of the blower. I didn't get it as clean it as I liked. WOW ten years of build up. I had to brake it down to get it all and it's two pounds litter now. The parts will run about $280 for the sequencer ($80) and two breakers ($75 to $110) to replace . As for the wiring between the old pics from last time, and your video, plus a wiring diagram. I feel a little better about fixing it. There was only 4 or 5 wires that are ok. The rest didn't give me much to go by. sorry for the long story , but you have helped me out. Be safe out there and have a good one.
