Brilliant 💯. I did this last year and sorted. A plumber would have probably charged £50 or more for a 10 minute job! I kept spare balls ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ under the shower tray in a large clear bag as you can easily loose those tiny bits!

Thank you for this video. The PRD in my Triton Cara burst yesterday. I suspect the build-up was due to limescale in the showerhead causing a flow blockage. Anyway, I've cleared out the showerhead and put the rubber ball back in the PRD. Ordering a replacement PRD now. This was invaluable.

I think the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) has blown. It’s a safety device on the bottom of the heating tank. It is fairly easy to replace however there is usually something that causes it to blow, often a kink in the hose or the showerhead is blocked, so check this before fitting the new PRD. You can find the correct one by looking up your shower on our web site.

Hi Sharon, If you switch off the shower at the main isolator and the shower keeps running then you have a faulty solenoid. When you switch off the shower at the main isolator and the water stops running, then you have a faulty on/off switch or a faulty PCB or a micro switch that is sticking on.

Hi Shower Doctor. Appreciate you producing this sort of help for us amateurs. It's kind of you to make this information accessible for us. My shower broke today. It's the second Triton shower that has broken in last 3 months. Different models. End result was that the PRD blew both times after water from hose slowing to a trickle and then to nothing. What happens is the water starts to just come out as a trickle, and then the PRD blows. Checked for presence of limescale - negative. Water is very soft in the area. Checked for kinks in hose - negative. Hose is one of the common ones that cannot be kinked or bent in such a way to stop the flow (metal ringlets that shield the hose). The low pressure indicator didn't come on. When the PRD blew, the water seemed to flow fine from the hose. Any ideas?

For those out there who have aquatronic 1 shower.there are no instructions p r v device val e replacement on here or any where to be found for this model.so I figured it out for myself lol.what u do is undo water tank screws .with power off of course.if u pull left hand s ide of water tank.the ta k comes free .with electrical wires still holding g it.on the bottom of the tank .is the nodule the overflow .or water tank release pipe that pulls off.the nodule.take pipe off .and pull nodule at bottom of tank with pliers.doesnt take much .it comes out of the tank .with what's left of the o ring that has blown.pop it off .and replace with new o ring valve.and put it back together.easy Pewsey.

Hi. I just wanted to get some advice if I may please? My girlfriend took a shower yesterday and since she finished using it and switched it off by the button, the shower head continues to drip water as if its not turned off properly. The drip is not the equivalent of if it was turned on fully. It's like as if, if it had a faucet, the faucet wouldn't be fully turned for it to be off. I've unscrewed the hose from the bottom and theres water coming out of the bottom. If theres a faulty part I can replace, I'd be happy to have a go at repairing it. I replaced the solenoid valve on this shower thanks to your KZbin video a few months ago when the shower wasn't coming on any more and it fixed it! My shower is a Triton Rapide 3+.

I have one problem though,I dismantled my shower head(aspirante) and found a plastic hexagonal piece I don't know where it should fit back into the shower head. It doesn't click each time you move positions and seems to leak in certain positions. Help?

If it becomes clear it isn't the PRD because ball is still present, you cannot blow through the pipe because ball is still in place, but water is still gushing from inside the shower unit and bypassing the hose outlet, what is the next most likely cause of failure and leak? Thanks.

Hi Arman, if the water is continuing to run from the shower head when the shower has been turned off you must have a fault with the solenoid valve.

Great vid! Thanks George. Any idea what size the ball bearing is that comes out of the PRD? This is the third PRD I have got through in a year. I live in a hard water area which causes build up of lime scale and therefor restricts the water going through the shower head... After descaling the head and refitting the new PRD *TOP TIP* I let the water run on cold for 20 mins without the shower head attached this allows any limescale etc to escape the heating element and prevent it from building up straight away! (you can see all the black stuff coming out of the hose - also changing the temp from hot to cold also displaces more limescale) The guy in the shop I brought the PRD said that it is good practice to do this every 6 months (I guess if you live in a hard water area). I plan on buying a load of BBs to just repair the PRDs as 35p per ball is cheaper than £10 - £11 per PRD. Hope this is helpful :)

No power going to the pull cord would suggest that you have a faulty fuse. You don’t mention the make and model of the shower so it is difficult to judge what is causing the water to flow continuously perhaps a sticking flow valve or a jammed solenoid if it has one.

Hi. Wondered if you could help. Our shower lost it's little black ball so our landlord replaced it with a new one, supposedly the way you've done it, but ever since he did, the water pressure has significantly decreased to the point where it's just trickling out of the shower head and the temperature is also quite dodgy. I'm convinced he has done it wrong but he says he hasn't. Can you give me any advice or comment on what the problem might be? We never had any issues until the ball came out.

It sounds like the Pressure Relief Device has activated (The ball has blown out!) The question is what caused it to activate? From your description I think that one of the elements has “blown” and this has caused extra pressure, causing the PRD to activate and from your description I think you are now only operating with one element in the shower. You can test the elements for resistance .......This video may help: "Testing a heating tank element inside an electric shower"

Curious to know why a blown element would cause extra pressure as less heat would generate from one element or is more likely to be overheating from imminent failure. I'm looking for reasons other than a PRD failure and where water leaks inside Triton shower. Once I had eliminated PRD, I chose to replace the complete shower for £95. It worked:)

It could be the solenoid so check that first. However it could just as easily be a faulty PCB; the problem is you don’t mention the make and model of your shower.

Hi, I have an (antic!) Joven 2000 which leaks water. I am unsure whether it is the Solenoid or the flow valve. It looks like it is a diaphragm valve attached to a relay. I am leaning towards a faulty Solenoid as I assume the flow valve is attached to the casing. How do I make sure it is the Solenoid please? (it looks very different from what I can see on your videos). Are these parts proprietary or is it possible to find generic? Thanks!

HI I have a Triton Jade shower and there is a small plastic pipe coming out of the bottom of the shower. When you turn the shower on water pours from here. Does that sound like a prd needs fitted too? What type is required for a triton shower and where do you buy these parts?

I guess the real problem is, is that you have a 10.8 Selectronic! The problem with the Selectronic is that it is fairly complicated internally and the only sensible way of fault finding this unit is by substitution, which means you have to have all of the parts and swap them in and out of the unit until you find the faulty part and due to the cost of all the parts this is not a sensible option for DIY. Probably best to call out a Applied Energy (Redring) engineer.

I have a triton madrid 2 shower i changed to PRD last week. Just because i had the lid off the shower because i am having problems with the shower. Can you help me ?. The shower blows the shower fuse every time i turn it to high setting even before water starts to come out. But soon as i turn the shower on to setting low or med settings if works fine and never blows the fuse. If i turn it to low first i can then set it to med setting because even if the shower is running as soon as i turn it to high setting the fuse blows. So what i have to do is make sure i first turn it on on low setting then when i turn it off i have to turn it to low first then off.

Hi I have a triton t80si which is burning hot on the highest pressure on the cold setting (number one) I have to change it to the lower setting which is ok but then the pressure isn't high enough (could pee faster) I bought what I thought was a prd but turned out to be rubber balls which you push into the prd. Still got the same issue even when replacing the ball in the prd. Seems to have lost pressure on all settings so could it be something else? Thanks

Triton Aquatronic 1+; leaking down through hose & out of shower head. I replaced the PRD, no change. I replaced the Stabiliser Valve Seal, no change; I tested the Solenoid coil with a rather old fashioned test meter (non-digital) and it shows 'live'; I removed the wires to the coil and tested the coil separately and the wires separately both show 'live'. I am at a loss. Can anyone suggest what to do next please? Many thanks in advance.

I have a mira escape 9.8kw shower about 5 years old. The shower has suddenly started to stop mid flow. The low water flow light comes on and the water stops. I have to wait for about 5 to 10 min before the shower will start again. I have cleaned the filter but the problem still happens. The water pressure in the house is 3barr and the problem occurs when no other water source is on. Am I better to have some one look at it or giving the age would I be better to replace with a new one?

It may be your solenoid valve, you can check it if you have a multi meter, you should have a reading of at least k3.5 ohms, across the two terminals any less and you need a new valve. (Check the valve in the failed state.) (When it has stopped working!) If there is power getting to the solenoid and it is not operating then there is a good chance that you have a faulty solenoid. The things to check first are: 1 That the main valve coming into your house is fully open. 2 Then check that the valve on the line to the shower is fully open. If these valves are not fully open then there may not be enough water getting to your shower to cool it properly the overheat safety device will turn the power off until it cools Then it all starts again It may also be a faulty flow valve.
