We got the base Ariya model a month ago and love the car. We were going to get the Kia EV Nero but cancelled the order after a test drive because it was so underwelming. We test drove the Tesla model 3 but did not go for that due to phantom braking issues. We test drove the Kia EV 6 which was a nice car but the seats were unbelievably uncomfortable for me but not the wife. We test drove the MG ZS which was okay but nothing special. We sat in the Volkswagen ID3 but thought the interior looked dated. (Is it just me or do all Volkswagen models look identical on the inside). We then test drove the Ariya and loved the ride, loved how quiet and comfy it was, so we pushed the boat out and ordered one (before the price rise) with the sun roof (Sky pack). We haven't looked back. Yes, the charging is slower than some of the competition but then again we have not done any long journeys that require us to charge away from home so adding 40 odd percent to the battery in the cheap 4 hours overnight once every 5 days is fine by us.

Good to hear youre happy with your choice. We went ahead and ordered the Ariya in Advance trim with Sky pack too. Despite the lower charge speeds on paper, something to do with the battery technology means the Ariya will charge faster for a lomger, sustained period versus its competitors. Somewhat making up for tge shortfall in outright charging speed. We're told April for delivery for ours but id be surprised if we see it before August, given we ordered only last Nov. Happy EV'ing!

I am driving a now 10 years old Nissan Leaf. Zero mechanical or electrical problems. Zero. Nothing. Nada. I would trust Nissan's reliability more than Volkswagens and Hyundais. Reliability is a number one parameter of an expensive car. Nice interior, quiet and comfortable ride are next in that order. A very promising car indeed. I am very interested, but will wait 3-4 years until my Nissan Leaf dies --which it is showing no signs of doing.

Had my Ariya Evolve 87 kWh for a week now, absolutely fantastic. Why the Ariya? The Ariya looks fresh and new compared to the competition, other marques could learn from its interior. I don't know what VW was trying to achieve with the interiors of the ID range, not to mention the software. The EV 6 isn't really an SUV, seems aimed at sportier younger drivers with the usual "cockpit" style interior. Enyac looks like every other VW group SUV type vehicle. Ionic 5 is more like a hatchback than an SUV. If your worried about price go for the MG. Btw, the charging speed of the big battery Ariya is actually very good, it has quite a flat charging curve and mine charges at a steady 115 kW from anything starting below 10% charge up to about 56% charge after which it ramps down slowly, it was still pulling 50 kW at over 90% charge and 40 kW at 96% charge, none of this only charging to 80% polava, so the charge time from say 5% to 95% is quicker than a lot of the competition with higher peak charge rates.

My third car was MG5 which was a bit of an upgrade however after one year and 16k miles just wanted a better looking car with more tech. 3 weeks ago I purchased MG4 and I'm very happy with it. Would love a slightly bigger family EV as flthe kids are growing but can't justify paying another £15k on top to get this or Skoda Enyaq which I also really like 😃

Thanks for the review guys! Have test driven most in this category, it wins in all respects, have one on order, not sure why you think it is expensive, you get a massive spec even in the base edition, it is super competitive in this sector. I understand your comments, however something you may have overlooked is that Nissan throw in a lot of stuff as standard right across the range. Some of the things you get in even the entry level Ariya you would have to pay extra for to get in some competitor's vehicles. It has a full range of safety features, a heat pump, heated front seats and steering wheel, kick rear hatch and lots more. Full disclosure. I don't work for Nissan, but have ordered an Ariya so I'm bound to be a little biased, however even putting that aside, I think once you add some of the standard equipment in the Ariya to other vehicles in the price bracket, the cost will be comparable or even higher. Having gone through all these options to replace my wifes Volvo XC60, the Ariya is the most SUV-like, a big want for the wife. Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 recharge are just too small inside, ioniq 5 is a hatchback. the EV6 is an odd crossover. We thought the ID looked like an MPV crossover with the Ariya being the most SUV in stance and profile at this pricepoint. I was quite impressed with the base 'advance' model. There is enough options as standard with an interior that looked robust enough to handle the kids all at a competive (if still overly expensive)£45k pricetag. The Ariya kind of stood out to us in this crowd. Its almost a mid-sized SUV with a surprisingly spacious interior. I wouldnt spec this car beyond FWD Evolve trim personally as from here id start to look elsewhere. Having watched tons of reviews in the lead up to buying our first EV, I agree there are better, more techologically advanced EVs outhere and I personally would opt for something else but as overall SUV package thats gonna get a job done, the Ariya seems like a good allrounder.

Back in 2019, when this was first revealed by Nissan, I loved the design and the outline specs of the car. In 2020, when the IONIQ 5 was announced, those two cars were the standouts for me. However, when I compared the specs (once they were released) the IONIQ 5 was much further ahead of the Ariya than I had thought it would be. But the real killer, as you rightly identified in the review, was than Nissan just took forever to get the Ariya out the door. I have had my IONIQ 5 Project 45 for just over a year, and if I had decided on the Ariya I would still be waiting. Nissan have missed the boat, and today the specs are not as advanced as they were 3 years ago. You definitely summed up the Ariya’s epitaph: too little, too late, for too much.

I think the IONIQ 5 makes this a bit DOA if I'm honest, way better to look at and better priced
@colinhare47222 жыл бұрын
Wasn't too impressed with IONIQ close up. Lots of cheap plastics and gimmicks. Not something you'd but with your own money IMHO. Prefer the look of this Nissan but need to do the close up check first.
@simondehaas87842 жыл бұрын
@@colinhare4722 The Ariya even in base spec is very nice inside. For me though the boot was too small - for a car this size it's very pokey. The car is also inefficient on the motorway meaning that you really want the bigger battery, and that is very overpriced (needs to be competitive with I5, EV6, ID4, Enyaq, but isn't)

@justinstephenson93602 жыл бұрын
I know car designers love cheap, glossy, black plastic on the inside but now we have it on the outside as well - at least it is unlikely to attract fingerprints. Looking at the interior and the lack of the nasty black plastic maybe the production team decided to move all the plastic to the outside to meet some production quota! It is a large SUV, a style of car that the vast majority of people who buy it would be better served with an estate car or in some cases MPV. It is a great car but the long range version is £50+K, sorry Nissan but that is massively over priced even by EV standards

I test drove this , Ionic5 and MacE. Really liked the Nissan but proved to expensive. I ended up ordering the Qashqai e-power. A good 10 grand less

@danielstefanovic26042 жыл бұрын
Biggest problem its an ev that was supposed to come out 2020 but they didnt update the specs so its already outdated ish. The interior is nicer then id4 but id4 is cheaper and have more space in the boot. If your already spending over 50k on an ev might aswell get a model y with frunk and bigger boot and faster charging.

@@ElectricVehicleMan In Finland we have lots of 22kw chargers in shops and smaller towns. You dont have to find quick charger if you can charge at 22kw at work stops. Unless there's a family of these coming, why pitch your only EV against the best of the rest? I guess this is the segment where you can make the most money, but that's only if you can sell the things.

Lovely looking car but I wouldn’t spend my own money on it. This is why I chose it as my next company car. I will save near to £200 per month in tax compared to my current company car and the charging is paid for by my company. Winner all round! I hope………😅

That's pretty much the issue I have with it. Nissan just haven't evolved the Leaf anywhere near as much as they ought to have done in the time it's been on sale. In fact the Leaf now trails behind it's competitors terribly. Given Nissan's lack of EV progress previously, I'd be worried this car was all glitz and glamour, but underneath just wasn't up there where it ought to be.....time will tell.

Spot on. Prices too high which is why new cars (Esp EV's) are not selling. Forget the nonesense re lack of semiconductors. Of course they are also not climate nice until they have done about 120 000 km (Volkswagens own data). Am sure in a few years time someone will spot the emperor with no clothes ie net zero. Just down 330 miles in my 5 series diesel and another 280 to run. Nowhere on my route or stay could use an electic point without wasting so much time public transport would have been quicker. Too damned expensive. We had a leaf but now looking to move away from the legacy manufacturers who quite honestly are taking the P**s with their pricing. I am now looking at manufacturers like MG offering 7 year warranty and massively more affordable cars. They are not the only Chinese manufacturer on the way. Current european car makers really are going to have to up their game. Lets not forget most of the tech is just off the shelf stuff that they all use and are mostly made in China anyway.

Polestar 2 is not a valid comparison... Polestar 2 is a drivers car, it is low, centred around the driver, not a family car, sorry... It has a big transmission tunnel (making it a 4 seater really), low ceiling, poor boot space. Not practical in any sense for a family. Also RRP is not important if you lease or PCP which most people will. It's all about the monthlies... And right now the lease deals on these are stonking... Perhaps not so, when this was filmed.
